Whoa, Nelly!
Monday, January 23rd, 2006Someone apparently saw fit to forge a Trillian Pro purchase receipt and mail it out to a large number of people in an attempt to obtain PayPal credentials. This is pretty disturbing stuff for us, and I wanted to re-iterate a few basic internet rules:
- We will NEVER ask you for your login credentials for either Trillian Pro, PayPal, or anything else through e-mail.
- You should NEVER give credentials of any kind to anyone asking for them through e-mail. Even though the e-mail may appear to be coming from a legitimate source, it is trivial to spoof the source address of an e-mail.
If you happen to receive the spam e-mail in question, you can safely ignore it – your PayPal account has not been charged. Cerulean Studios takes privacy very seriously and has never sold or transferred customer data to a third party for any reason whatsoever.
Thanks!
UPDATE: It looks like one of those e-mails that come bundled with a happy little virus of sorts, so make sure not to open any attachments either!
