Build 76.

Monday, March 31st, 2008

In response to some of the major bugs introduced in Build 75, we’re releasing a quick Build 76 update today. We’ll continue to monitor Bugzilla for any outstanding major issues; in the meantime, we are now working towards Build 77.

Thanks!

Build 75 - Video, Diagnostics and Login Screens of Trillian Astra

Build 75 has landed, showcasing over four weeks of work! As it was necessary to upgrade both the Trillian client and Astra server at the same to enable the video chat feature, many other features have been worked on simultaneously. Auto-update is off again this week; please download the new build manually. You will no longer be able to use older builds to connect to the Astra network.

Brief Status Update.

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

We’ve made good progress with Build 75 and are about 85% of the way there; at the moment we’re focusing on some video compatibility issues with certain older machines in our test lab.  Because we’ve temporarily switched our schedule to “when it’s ready” instead of “on a Friday”, we will begin compiling Build 75 once all of our video-related features are complete – this may end up being next Friday, it may be earlier next week, or it may be over a weekend.

Build 75 will require server updates across the board, so when it’s available you’ll have to download the build manually.  After Build 75, auto-update should be back online.  Finally, builds prior to 75 will no longer connect to the Astra network as we’ve made some core changes to the protocol.

We’ll be back with an update and hopefully a build sometime next week.  Thanks for your patience and support!

No build today.

We are taking a break from builds until our video implementation is ready. Video calls require a large number of changes to many different sections of our code; they also require the development and deployment of a new class of servers. We will therefore be focusing exclusively on finishing things up before we release another build. Getting a build together usually takes a full working day for us and at this point our time is better spent finishing the video-related tasks we’ve started.

We think those of you who are interested in video calls will be pleased with our implementation, and those of you who are not interested in video calls will be pleased that we’re finally finished coding it – everyone wins! :) We’ll keep the blog updated with our progress – at this point we have things functional but there’s work to be done to ensure near-100% call establishment rates.

Enjoy your weekend!
