Build 88: Win32 Beta!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Today, the sinister powers of Trilloween swept through the chilly sprawl of Brookfield, CT and possessed us to bring you Build 88: Beta!  With it come a few important changes and announcements:

Build 88

  • We are done adding features to Trillian/Win32. Speed, reducing memory consumption, fixing client bugs, and improving server and database stability and performance will be our entire focus moving forward for the Win32 build.
  • Testers can continue to submit feature requests to Bugzilla – we’re always planning our future lists, so don’t be shy!
  • The Web, iPhone, and OSX versions of Trillian have not died and are being actively worked on. We had hoped to have more information for you than that, but we don’t at present – stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated as soon as either version is available for testing.
  • Three new plugins are available in Build 88: Mail (IMAP/POP3), Twitter, and Skype (using the Skype API, which requires Skype to be running at the same time). Enjoy them! Plus, there are a couple new Bright themes for Cordonata.
  • Build 88 will require you to register an e-mail address with us for purposes of password recovery. This is a new system, so please bear with us as we work out any bugs! You should be prompted for your e-mail address during login, at which point our systems will send you an e-mail with a confirmation code.
  • A brand-new Installation and Upgrade Wizard has been finalized for Build 88. New testers will be able to provide feedback and bug reports on this system.
  • We are adding testers again. We have a large number of invitations in our backlog to get through, and we will be starting this process effective immediately. When the entire run of invitations has been exhausted and our infrastructure has been proven, we’ll open the doors to a completely open public beta test. Until such time, tokens will be required to sign-up and create an account.

In addition, our Trillian Astra website received a minor upgrade as we work towards our final product and website. At the current time, a large listing of our features has been put online; the site will continue to evolve with full feature tours, purchasing options, community links, support, etc, but we’ve decided to open the doors to what we’ve accomplished thus far as it relates to the beta.

We hope those of you celebrating had a great Halloween. We look forward to continuing to improve Trillian Astra and fixing all of the outstanding issues to bring you a stable and enjoyable final product.  Have a spooky weekend!

Build 86.

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Build 86 has arrived with a batch of new UI fixes and minor enhancements. We’ve done our best to clean up tabbed containers according to all of the outstanding bugs/requests in Bugzilla, so give them a whirl! Additionally, we’ve been continuing our load testing of the entire Astra framework with overall positive results. Some problem areas have been found and fixed, and we’ll continue the tests in parallel with further build development. Have a great weekend!

UPDATE: We’ve released Build 87 to address a minor regression with group chats that was causing a crash on join.

Trillian Astra Build 85

A minor upgrade, Build 85 has just been released. We’re mainly reacting to some of the more annoying bugs found in Build 84 here, as well as tightening up a few server-related issues we uncovered after last week’s launch. IRC has been re-enabled in this build, and the dark themes in Trillian Cordonata have also been polished.

Thanks to all of our testers for the great work reporting and locating bugs, and have a great week!
