Build 60: Astra Profile and MSN Reloaded!

Forget Build 59! Instead, here comes Build 60 in tandem with Web Build 3, a massive upgrade! Build 60 introduces our fully armed and operational Astra Profiles, a polished and renewed MSN engine, and more!
MSN (Windows Live) Reloaded

One of the updates this week, as promised last week, is a revamp of our MSN (Windows Live) connection plugin. Not only does the complete renovation ensure faster speed and better use of computer and network resources, it also features some new heavily-requested features:
Cross-platform mobility: The new plugin enables MSN connection for Trillian Web, Trillian for Mac OS X and Trillian for iPhone.
Offline Messages: Big time! No more lost messages with offline messaging support. You can now receive messages sent to you while you were offline, and send messages to contacts that are currently offline. Moreover, it works on the Web, Mac OS X and iPhone as well.
![]()
Custom Emoticons: You can now receive custom emoticons from your friends on Windows Live, in perfect clarity. No more trouble understanding what the fuss is about.
Yahoo! Interoperability: Trillian now shows Yahoo! contacts added through WLM.
The name for the plugin stays the same at “MSN”, despite the name change by Microsoft, since it would be a hassle to rename all the MSN logs and settings to WLM (and you never know if they will change the name once again
).
The party doesn’t stop here! There’s even more to the superb Build 60!!
Profile 2.0 for Web 2.0
Profile is one of the key features of Trillian Astra. Since last month, we have been cranking out a lot of upgrades and new features for viewing and editing profiles on Astra and various IM services. All of these updates add up to the holy grail…

Boom! Widget Profiles for Trillian Astra: the elegant and fun way to showcase everything about you and your Web 2.0 lifestyle to your friends. Your IM Services and Web Services are all initially lined up in a neat summary table, and Profile Walls gorgeously display and aggregate your web personality in fun and interactive widgets.
Desktop Sync: Trillian Astra is your central hub for editing the Astra Profile. The desktop connection allows Trillian to collect data (e.g. Now Playing song) and update it live to the web and your Trillian friends!
Web Sync: Your Web Profile will also update as you change your entries on other Web Services, utilizing standard Web 2.0 APIs whenever available. The Flickr widget will always show your latest photo, your Twitter widget will always show your latest tweet, etc.

Easy-to-use Editor for Widget Profile Walls: Hang your widgets anywhere you want on the Wall! Want to place the clock next to the photo? Simply drag the clock. No HTML fuss. No limits on columns and page layouts.
Click the Edit button on top of each widget, and an “Edit Card” will show up like some sort of table game. We also tried to keep the amount of data required from users as minimal as possible, so that you can get through a large amount of widgets quickly.
Fluid Navigation: Unlike other clunky profile systems, Widget Profiles allows viewers to scroll through the page by dragging anywhere. Single click to zoom in a widget you want to see in closeup, and single click in an empty area again to zoom out to get the overview of the profile.
Basic Widgets: Besides the dynamic and sophisticated widgets, we also provide simple and basic widgets, such as Group Box, Text, Image and Hyperlink, so that you can build your Wall as you please.
Intro Page: A web counterpart of the client profile, designed for your friends visiting through the web. Your IM and messaging accounts are lined up like the stadium lights – without the chaos. Your A/S/L information is displayed alongside meaningful graphics, accompanied with text. Various Web Services web sites stack neatly in a pile.
XML Backend: Web 2.0 in, Web 2.0 out. Despite the beautiful Flash interface on the frontend, underneath the whole Astra Profile is stored in a flexible XML file.
One Trillian Hyperlink to see them all… Visit your profile page easily under http://www.trillian.im/(your Astra name). Easy for you to remember, and easy for your friends as well!
If you are not a Trillian Astra alpha tester, you can currently experience Astra Profile through our sample profile: http://www.trillian.im/trillian
Widget Development
Moving forward, we’ll be opening up the widget platform to any aspiring Flash developers who wish to aggregate their services within the Astra Profile or simply develop a cool widget. We are extremely keen to hear from the developer community as far as suggestions and comments are concerned; as the API itself is still subject to change, we want to ensure everything is as sensible and easy-to-use as possible.
If you’re comfortable with ActionScript 3.0 programming and are interested in participating, please sign up for alpha testing and join our community forums! With community involvement, we are confident that together we can build an amazing and versatile system for the retrieval and storage of flexible profile information.
Happy Halloween! Beware of the ghost!

I just got this and looked at the Build. Very well done Cerulean. Very well done!
October 27th, 2007 at 12:28 am
Yay! Upgrades in place definitely constitute jumping a build number
October 27th, 2007 at 12:29 am
Good job! I’ve been waiting all day for this! Better late than never.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:31 am
Plus it’s perfect it’s a MSN Themed Build. It’s the plugin I use the most.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:33 am
Well now apparently it decided to not show my contacts xD
October 27th, 2007 at 12:36 am
ghost? WITH a winking smiley? are you implying there’s an easter egg (well….halloween candy is more appropriate xD) hidden within this build?
October 27th, 2007 at 12:38 am
When I read that part it seemed as though a Easter Egg is included here. I’ll be on the lookout if any.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:38 am
oh haha i found it! but im not gonna tell anyone even tho theyd probably find it easily
October 27th, 2007 at 12:38 am
Good, lord, hurray! Stuff to play with!
October 27th, 2007 at 12:48 am
MSN isn’t logging in…
October 27th, 2007 at 12:49 am
hmmmm have to check all my Plugins after each update usually as they all disabled. no big whoop.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:54 am
@geterry
Your not the only one it seems =P
It’s all good, should be fixed in no time.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:58 am
MSN isn’t logging inme either
October 27th, 2007 at 12:58 am
MSN isn’t logging in..I submitted it to bugzilla since that’s what the email said to do.
October 27th, 2007 at 1:06 am
Now playing widget still isn’t updating, but my plugins are all fine. Resets my sounds though….
October 27th, 2007 at 1:07 am
And yet somehow, as large as this update is, we still don’t have any interface to make a basic password change or recover our password. Why on earth wasn’t this in the *first* build? I don’t test Astra as well as I’d like because I don’t remember my password and would rather use one I can remember.
October 27th, 2007 at 1:17 am
Help link on the profile page doesn’t seem to do anything…
Anyone know a different link for the iphone interface http://www.astra.im/iphone doesn’t seem to work.
October 27th, 2007 at 1:24 am
You know I may just be a nobb and missed some details about the iphone app…
Is it actually working?
If so do you need a special setting on your profile to test it.
Final “if”, If the above is true who do I email or what link do I hit to ask to have that setting or flag set?
October 27th, 2007 at 1:37 am
after updating my trillian, i can’t login into MSN
October 27th, 2007 at 1:54 am
OK CAN WE FINALLY DEAL WITH THIS BASIC, BASIC PROBLEM:
CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO INSTANT MESSAGE PEOPLE IN CHATROOMS ON TRILLIAN? I MEAN ON ANY MESSENGER YOU JUST RIGHT CLICK THE PERSONS NAME AND YOU CAN CHOOSE INSTANT MESSAGE OR BETTER YET JUST DOUBLE CLICK TH EIR SCREEN NAME IN THE ROOM LIST TO MESSAGE SOMEONE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DO EITHER ONE ON TRILLIAN ASTRA…EVER!!!
SO PLEASE FIX THIS SO PEOPLE DON’T HAVE TO ADD STRANGERS TO THEIR CONTACT LIST JUST TO INSTANT MESSAGE THEM.
October 27th, 2007 at 2:04 am
Yay!!
*happydance*
And MSN seems to be working just fine for me. Just playing with all the new shiny features.
October 27th, 2007 at 2:05 am
Love the new profile, widgets, and will mess with the wall next. Great work Cerulean!
October 27th, 2007 at 2:44 am
To those of you having MSN issues, please try this hotfix:
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/tmp/msn-60-patch.zip
1) Stop Trillian.
2) Unzip the contents of this file to your Trillian\plugins directory, overwriting the old msn.dll
3) Restart.
There were a few minor bugs that cropped up in the building process that I have resolved. There may be more; as mentioned, this MSN engine was a total overhaul and I do expect some bugs with it this week. Please keep us posted via the blog and Bugzilla and we’ll work to fix them all!
Thanks!
October 27th, 2007 at 2:53 am
NIce build, Msn works. I hope the jabber plugin will be fixed next
- Autoreconnect when you login on an other location (it doesn’t keep disconnected)
- file transfers
- multiple reciepients (the thing I liked much about Trillian)
- and so on
October 27th, 2007 at 3:05 am
I am still sadly having a problem with MSN and it logging into the client. I have tried numerous times to reinstall it to see if it would fix the problem, with and without the patch, however it only works without the update from previous builds. Puzzled on this one.

WOWO big updatait is very nice
October 27th, 2007 at 3:34 am
I am trying to create a profile.
While going to “Add a webservice” application crashes and hangs down whole machine.
Let me know what all data do you require?
October 27th, 2007 at 3:35 am
nope the patch didn’t fix the MSN problem for me
October 27th, 2007 at 3:54 am
I did further debugging for the crash that I am getting.
And I am totally stunned. Do you run your product under application verifier? You have lots and lots of second chance exceptions!! Its strange that application runs!
I have taken memory dump for one of first chance exception and second chance exception. I dont have symbol files for your application so, I could not go further but as per the function name given to me, its crashing inside,
toolkit!addCompPtr+0×53596
Even if its beta, its always better to try running application under “Microsoft Application Verifier” which is a free tool for download!
October 27th, 2007 at 4:01 am
I’m getting 500 – Internal Server Error when trying to look at http://www.trillian.im/trillian – hardly an incentive to put together a profile for yourself

BUGs and Problems still there!
1) cant see which account has how much mails, as opposite to old version which used to display no of mails in tooltip. If I happened to be out while logging into my IM account, I will miss message “You have 3 new mails in …..@….com” and later i can’t see anywhere which account has mail.
2) The login window shown at startup takes very long, like about 2-3 minutes before it opens trillian astra messanger window. Then only starts logging in to my IM accounts. Connecting delay to astra server is really big deal. it sucks all time.
3) NO buzz button can be used in MSN while in minimal skin. shortcut could have been used like /buzz
4) Signing process to MSN and Google really seems to be not reacting at all till it really gets connected, and it takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes more than older version of trillian to connect.
5) I will write later…….thanks 4 new version.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:31 am
Nice work, thanks! You are the best!
October 27th, 2007 at 4:44 am
After update: MSN was logged in but wouldn’t get the contact list loaded.
Working fine after patching.
October 27th, 2007 at 5:00 am
I too am having problems connecting to MSN, even with the patch

I can’t. Bug submitted.
October 27th, 2007 at 5:51 am
I can’t receive custom emoticons either.. using the patch cuz MSN didn’t like logging on.

Very cool Updates!

I have trouble using Google Talk, because Trillian Astra is limited to the gmail.com domain only. However I am not a Gmail subscriber but having a screen name for GTalk linked to my email, which is not with Gmail. Hence wondering whether this a known bug and/or a workaround is available?
October 27th, 2007 at 7:52 am
since the upgrade my msn does not conect anymore get a msg = 0
upgrade with the new dll did not help either verry anoying
any one a solution because its now a unworkeble program for me an normaly use it 24 / 7

MSN, with Hotfix, is still not connecting.
October 27th, 2007 at 8:49 am
I’ve uploaded msn.dll from Build 58(?), which works in Build60.
http://www.pandur2000.com/msn_build58.rar
Its good till getting a new hotfix which works for everyone.

Build 60 Patch failed, Build 58 msn.dll works…
I still haven’t found how to submit to bugzilla.. can someone direct me?
October 27th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Hmm. It seems the major problems have passed over me. Does anyone know if we can make custom smileys or is that feature not added? I’m also hoping that trillian does a revamp for all the other popular clients like AIM, Yahoo, and Jabber/Gtalk.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
The Yahoo, AIM, and ICQ revamps are already done. They were done during other earlier specific builds. Only GoogleTalk and Jabber remain to be revamped.
FeRRdi … Astra is alpha software, you should not be counting on it 24/7, that is what Trillian 3.1 is for and why you should still have a full installation of that.
vtol … perhaps you can just use the Jabber plugin for your account, as that is intended for all other XMPP accounts.
To those of you who still can’t connect with the Build 60 patched msn.dll … did any of you try deleting your connection and readding it? Testing an older build of the msn.dll invalidates your entire Astra install and none of your input is helpful at all on any bugs until you are current again.
October 27th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Delete and readding account dows not work. Even hole new installation doesnt work.
Using the old MSN dll is for the guys that do not want to run msn live beneith. I dont think it will invalidate the hole astra build (the other bugs, did not found any the last hours).
October 27th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
yes i tried deleting my msn account on trill and re adding it all to no avail
October 27th, 2007 at 1:14 pm

Tricia McMillan LOL
Glad you guys are fans of the Guide!
Great update. I’m using MSN web right now – works great!
October 27th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Looks real good.. but still not able to login to ASTRA profile anylonger..
Any suggestions? stopped working in build 058 and worked only 1 time on 059..
October 27th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
As sad many times, when a part of Astra does not work that you rely on, you are supposed to use 3.1 (or the native client or anything else). Using a reverse patched version of Astra defeats the entire testing purpose.
I hope that in the future they make it not possible to use older .dll files so people stop doing this.
October 27th, 2007 at 3:22 pm
After the patch, MySpace and MSN didnt work for me, i used the patch and now they both worked.. Was there bugs in MSN that were messing with MySpace?
Also, a concern of mine.. I stopped using ICQ.. I have 2 accounts and a few friends on there, but im having a problem with im guessing russian spam bots.. Every day i get 5~20 messages from them, and they are constantly trying to add me to their list.. There’s got to be a way to detect if they are a bot or not and totally ignore them. If that can somehow be figured out and implemented i can use ICQ again!
October 27th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
All of this new content in the profile is nice, but when are the privacy controls (being able to set permissions on each item) going to come back?
Awesome build so far. Now to see if it still does the DEP-crash-on-exit thing. XD
Take care!
October 27th, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Go to your ICQ connection preferences, there are several options on the privacy tab to help fight that russian spam.
The msn.dll file can not affect MySpace functionality.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:45 pm
@ DiamondNRG
could not log into GTalk via Jabber, perhpas need to wait until the GTalk module is revamped then
October 27th, 2007 at 5:09 pm
SDWolf, what privacy settings are you talking about? If you go into the connection preferences for your accounts, and click the privacy tab you will see all those options.
October 27th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
I, too, had a problem with MSN after using Build 60. People could see me, but I couldn’t see them. I tried the patch and it didn’t work… so I tried the v58 DLL and now I can see my MSN contact list.
For the record: Windows Vista Business…
October 27th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
haven’t had any issues w/ the MSN problem everyone else is having. The problem I am having is anytime I try to bring up the profile editor the program becomes real laggy and the editor never loads.
Anyone else having problems with the profile editor?
October 27th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
DiamondNRG sorry but if everybody stops using this alpha because its not working and goes over to the regulare programe you can stop every alpha test because you wont get a step further because you only hear positive sounds all the neg are gone in your vision
October 27th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Good job on the custom emoticons feature, but it did a real number on my contact list. Now I’ve lost a bunch of MSN contacts and when I add them they don’t show up as online and I can’t send them messages.
October 27th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Fine, you ask the developers what they want you to do when it doesn’t work. I bet they want you to report it to bugzilla and to continue to test it.
Using an older .dll does nothing except keep you connected which makes it look like you wanted Astra more to be cool to your friends than to actually help test and figure out the exact cause of problems and issue.
But go ahead, do whatever you want, that is what is so great about the internet.
October 27th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
it gets better and better, you guys are doing an outstanding job.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
Issues I have been experiencing with profile editor.
1.) When I select “gender”, “marital status”, etc, I get a really skinny box that pops up and I can’t click on either of the icons. Is there a fix for this?
2.) When I select “add a web service”, a window pops up but there’s nothing in the box and nothing to do in it.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:23 pm
I had to edit the Connection Settings for the Astra account and click Reset. This changed the server from login.trillianastra.com to login.trillian.im .
October 28th, 2007 at 8:44 am
I think this is the crappiest beta I have ever seen. Its throwing thousands of first and second chance exceptions while attached to the debugger, and thats the reason when it crashes, we have just 2 seconds to make JIT debugger message go away, otherwise it will hang entire explorer.exe and there is no way to come out of it except logoff-log back in or RESTART..
I have other work to do except keep on restarting.. I am sick of sending error reports now. I have deactivated all plugins for trillian now (not even yahoo is on right now!) and eagerly waiting for next build.. Please release it ASAP, this is totally un-usable. This build changes the meaning of beta.
October 28th, 2007 at 9:16 am
Thank you DiamondNRG! Where I can receive a package of Russian for Astra?
October 28th, 2007 at 9:54 am
[...] Cerulean Studio’s has released a massive update for Trillian Astra. This update mainly offers a major revamp of the Windows Live (MSN) Messenger plugin, as well as Profile 2.o. You can read about all of the changes on the development blog. [...]
October 28th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
jigarmehtamscit … do you have any idea how stupid you sound insulting it like that when it is an UNSTABLE ALPHA, not a beta? Why don’t you do us all a favor and uninstall it and go back to 3.1 or Pidgin or Miranda or the native clients or AOL for all we care.
Like they don’t know it has performance problems … that is what beta is for. It crashes for REASONS, not because of the exceptions … and 99.9% of people do not have an issue with having to log on/off when it crashes.
And if you don’t have time for all these restarts you should not be testing it in the first place, it sounds like you are probably testing it at work anyways when you should be doing your job.
October 28th, 2007 at 3:16 pm
Latest build clobbered my network connection, left a handfull of c++ exceptions and forced a reboot. Now it is hung at an Astra login. If you don’t already have an Astra account you are hosed. GTalk has never worked since this s/w was installed. I can live with the google/jabber stuff taking time to sort out but this Astra thing is a huge step backwards. If an Astra account is going to mandatory then offer the means/link to create one from the login dialog.
October 28th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
My Astra build 60 is connect MSN well. But it have small bugs with connection on other plugins, like icq.
October 28th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
It is a private alpha test, if you do not have an Astra login, you are not supposed to be using it at all.
October 28th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
You might want to consider that I have the software because I am a legitimate tester and that after numerous successful updates this one clobbered a very functional previous build. There was no requirement in previous builds to login to astra or have an astra acount before seeing existing accounts.
October 28th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Yes there was. If you are a tester and were using previous builds, you would know what you are saying is false.
A valid Astra account has always been required.
October 28th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
I wish to be a alpha tester. I sent you the message from a site still one month ago, but the answer has not come. How to receive a Astra login?
October 28th, 2007 at 4:56 pm
Previous builds ‘assumed’ the astra service was available ut never re
October 28th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
Previous builds ‘assumed’ the astra service was available but never required an active account. Build 60 changed something and caused a ‘Welcome’ dialog to popup that is Astra- specific. Previous builds simply logged-in to existing accounts, with astra being inactive.
end this since no one here appears to be experiencing this i’ll go file a bug with Cerulean and stop the mere gainsaying.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
…so, i searched the email garbage bin and, indeed, I was ‘assigned’ an autogenerated astra account, which i never used.
builds prior to 60 ignored this–no astra login was required on startup. I’ll just assume for the moment some currently missing support mechanism will be put in place for upgraders before release.
the updater crashing my wireless network is a different issue.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
I tried to tell you that … but you didn’t listen. It never should have let you login without it.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
And you got that account because you signed up for it, so you even picked what it is, you didn’t get it autogenerated or assigned. It is called an invitation.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Diamond, read our thread. If you had said, “Yes, in build 60 there was a change that now requires astra login.” we could have skipped our little chat.
In fact I am a legitimate tester, and in fact prior to Build 60 I did not have to use astra or login to the astra account. Astra was irrelevant and now it isn’t. That change was made with no fyi to users that i can find. Which still leaves the fact the updater whacked my machine.
Have a nice day.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
Umm, it sounds like your network itself is having problems. Perhaps you’re testing in an already unstable environment. Though I am too, Windows Vista is still pretty unstable at times. But I believe that all the previous builds did require astra logins. I started testing at build 54 and have always had to been authenticated through astra first to start trillian. As for the updater crashing your wireless network, I don’t believe Trillian is the underlying cause for that. It could be your network settings or the network itself was setup incorrectly. I am using Trillian via a WPA-PSK2 wireless connection and things are working very smoothly.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
My mistake, yes on build 59 I did encounter a situation where astra failed to login but everything else did login. However, to get access to all features of Astra, a login was required.
October 28th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
I can’t seem to be able to connect to MSN now.
October 28th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
Ja, 60 was probably just sewing up an astra login hole i had been walking through without knowing it since early sept. Since I wasn’t trying astra just never saw it.
The updater network problem misled me. I arrived at the desk this morning with the Vista machine bitching that Trillian had quit and three C++ assertion dialogs that went away when I told vista to kill trillian. Too bad…woulda been good to report them. Then the login change caught me. The update looks like it went ok, but the machine was left, for the very first time, with the network whacked. Worse, it was unrepairable via UI or ipconfig. Only restart fixed.
It’s a very stable net with many machines of various OS’s and none of them had the problem.
Next time I’ll cap the assertions.
October 28th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
I am in the trillian astra alpha and my update to the latest build failed. now, i can’t find a download link that will let me reinstall astra. where can i find this? the original download link in my email no longer works as i am presented with a username/password dialog that doesn’t seem to match up with any usernames/passwords i have associated with cerulean studios. how can i reinstall astra?
October 28th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Sorry PMace … the only reason I didn’t say build 60 changed that is because it was always that way. You apparently had been getting in through a loophole before. There is no way I could have or should have presumed this.
You have a nice day as well.
October 29th, 2007 at 12:57 am
I just can’t wait for it to go into Public Beta @_@
October 29th, 2007 at 9:15 am
My trillian, when starting up, says Astra is in offline mode and changes wont be saved to the server, etc. Its been like this since the last update…is there something I need to reset?
October 29th, 2007 at 9:52 am
Thanks for the update… Now I can’t connect to MSN from home or work without using the real client >_

Just curious… I know that Astra has been tested on the iPhone, but has anyone tried the iPod Touch? I’m just curious because my son just ordered one. It would be nice to know if “the future of IM”
will work on his new toy.

Tried the MSN patch. Didn’t solve the problem. I get a unending connect-disconnect. Connection goes through as I have time to annoy my MSN friends (not even a second). I’m on XPsp2 using ZoneAlarm 7 FW with trusted access to Trillian Astra. Build 58 worked fine.
Does Server Host should stay at : messenger.hotmail.com and port 1863 since the new MSN engine works on MSN Live?

Greetings,
When will the ability to reset your Astra password appear? I am currently unable to login because of an Astra crash that wiped out my saved password.
October 29th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
PROXY still busted. UGH!
October 29th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Sensei .. it does not currently work on the iPod touch due to an Apple firmware change, but it will again at some point.

The msn works great as far as offline messenger and yahoo integration goes, but I have a bit of a problem.
I have 2 msn accounts. One of them ends in @hotmail.com and that one worked perfectly from the start. However, at first, the other one, which ends in @msn.com, wouldnt even try to log in. When I did the hotfix suggested up above, the 2nd one (@msn.com) logged in. However, when it logged in, it was missing a whole lot of my contacts
. Whenever I install a new build of astra, I always completely remove the previous build. Should I not be doing that?
Is the issue anything to do with the @msn.com vs @hotmail.com thing?

The update wouldn’t connect MSN for me on Vista Home Premium. The build 60 patch linked above fixed the problem though.
Any Vista/Other users having random problems exiting Trillian via context menu on the System Tray? I get occasional “has stopped working” messages when attempting to exit. Other times it exits fine. Can’t figure out what causes the problem to duplicate it and do a Bugzilla ticket for it though. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or been able to determine the causing circumstances?
October 29th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
WoW Build 60 looks neat, especially with the new “Web 2.0″ profile pages. I work at a small web development firm and we use Flash (and Flex) over here, I am very interested in potentially developing some Flash widgets for the new profile pages. However, I am unclear about what was said.. “If you’re comfortable with ActionScript 3.0 programming and are interested in participating, please sign-up to join our alpha team!” Does this mean the existing set of alpha testers (that I am already part of)? Or is this something new that more details will be announced later..

Quick update from my previous post:
I dont know why, but the way I had to solve my problem was to go into the live msn client provided by microsoft and delete and then add all my contacts again, one at a time. When I did that, all my contacts showed up for both my msn messenger accounts.
If you have issues with msn, try completely removing trillian (including the stuff in application data), reinstalling trillian, and then immediately applying the msn patch linked above. I think that might fix it.
For all those people that msn didnt work, did ur email address end in “@msn.com
?
October 29th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
patch 2 for build 60 fixed the same connection problems for @msn addresses that patch1 fixed for @hotmail addresses. There should not be any “differences” between them.
October 29th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
where is patch “2″ ?
October 29th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
as pcroy stated…I also get an unending logging in and out of msn. My contacts get really annoyed about this. It was more apparent when I was in the invisible mode…shouldn’t I be invisible in this mode? what’s the point of being invisible if you keep showing up each time you get logged in to MSN? Any patch to fix this issue?
October 29th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
I wanted to mention that I am a graphic designer and Flash programmer, thus am hoping to finally get my invite to work on the new widget features.
October 29th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
eatno … did you install patch 2?
pcroy and eatno .. patch 2 is available in a thread in the forums, Scott released 2 patches to the build the same day it came out.
October 30th, 2007 at 2:25 am
I did not install patch 2…I will look for it in the forums. Hoping this will solve it! Thanx!
October 30th, 2007 at 7:13 am
patch 2 seemed to work for the msn log off/log in issue. but there are some problems with the invisibility mode…when going “set all invisible” there are something that’s not right all the time…had to set msn manually to invisible otherwise I was only away.
October 30th, 2007 at 8:48 am
I still cannot log into the msn network. I do not use a hotmail.com or msn.com address. I use my own .com address.
October 30th, 2007 at 10:27 am
merlin, it is possible that custom domains were not addressed in either patch. You should report that to bugzilla.
October 30th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
Well, now that MSN and most of the other network protocols are worked out, maybe the proxy support can get fixed now?? You know, bug 1076….
October 30th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
I’ve tried reading around but couldnt find a solution to this. Has anyone had trouble renaming contacts? I rename my AIM contacts so that I dont have to remember their actual screen name. The problem is that I rename them and exit trillian and when I get back on trillian the names are all lost
If there is a fix I’d really appreciate if someone would be willing to share
October 30th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
ccac3 … Are you running Astra on Vista? Or are you using it without being connected to the Astra medium?
If you are running it on Vista you likely managed to install it in a way where Trillian does not have permission to save it’s settings. And if you are running it without being connected to the Astra medium, it is not going to save any of your changes.
October 30th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
can’t figuar out why but sence i updated to this build my msn doesn’t update with which contacts are online or offline…
nick
October 30th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
oh and then i was just wondering when is MSN web going to be added to trillian online???
nick
October 30th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
ahh I see. I run it on vista, so I dont think that it has permission. I dont know how I managed that tho. Also, I dont think it is possible to use astra without first connecting to the astra medium.
I am gna try to run it as admin and see what happens.
October 30th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
double post :S
anyway, I ran it as admin in vista, but that wasnt it. I did however, think of another thing based on what you were saying, DiamondNRG. I have my astra set to not securely store my IM accounts (under connection preferences). I think that was wat was preventing it from keeping the names. I only use one computer though, so I don’t really want that functionality (not that I don’t trust that its securely stored).
October 30th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Nope, that feature is for accounts and preferences. It is going to securely store your contact list no matter what.
It likely is installed someplace that is causing the problem. I would advise installing it outside of the program files.
And the positive side to having it store your accounts is if you ever do want to log in anywhere else (or from the web client) you only have to type in your Astra account.
October 30th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
i’m running vista home premium with all recent updates on vista and trillian but i can log into msn messenger and it shows contacts close it and then start trilian and log in but guess what it says no one is on at all…what is causing this??
nick
October 30th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
It is called a bug … check bugzilla for it and report it if it is not there, there are no more patches … so you will have to wait to see if it is fixed in the next build.
October 30th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
i know that but i didn’t know if anyone else was experienceing the bug or not
nick
October 31st, 2007 at 1:38 am
Trillian crashed two times today and it compeltely froze my computer. Also when i tried to attach widget to yahoo, it crashed agains with a memory reference error. I will log these in bugzilla with crash files. Just wanted to see if anyone had similar experience
October 31st, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Widgets can not be attached to “Yahoo” only to Astra. Or do you mean the widget you were attaching was a Yahoo widget?
Nick … yes it is very common.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:23 pm
When you go in to ‘Add widget’ window, right click on the widget and you can choose to attach it to Yahoo or MSN etc. When I do that it crashes with a memory reference error.
November 1st, 2007 at 12:29 pm
I don’t see any such widgets that can be added to Yahoo and MSN and others. Widgets only work on the Astra medium. What widget are you talking about specifically? And are you talking about a profile widget? wall widget? trillian mini widget? desktop widget?
November 1st, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Although, very minor compared to other MSN problems, Has anyone who is able to log in and use MSN recieved any email notifications upon load? I get Yahoo & AOL email notices, but nothing from MSN. Just looking for confirmation.
November 1st, 2007 at 6:24 pm
It is times like these that I am reminded how much of an ALPHA this really is.. After installing and patching my MSN works for a few minutes and then I can’t message anyone.. Almost none of the functionality listed above works (sending messages to offline people), messages don’t arrive to me, but after logging out and logging in the come in as if offline.. I could keep going, but I’ll refrain and go back to using MSN Messenger while awaiting the next release.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Yup, that is what alpha means … we should complain when it DOESN’T break
November 2nd, 2007 at 7:51 am
After upgrading to build 60, Astra seems to behaving strangely. Performs “illegal operation” / “auto logout” from all accounts / freezes machine. Build 59 was much better than this one. Will wait for new build to come. Till that time I’m using alternate options to be online.
PS: From where build 59 can be downloaded ?
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Ashish, there was no public 59.
By the way, testing an old build makes no sense. If the current one won’t work for you, there is still a stable 3.1.
(If you’re lucky enough, there will be a 61 today anyway…)
November 3rd, 2007 at 1:19 am
Virgoville, I was not asking public version, only, alpha, as build 59 was more stable than 60. Anyways downloading 61, lets see if it can solve my problem.
Thx anyways.
November 3rd, 2007 at 3:23 am
No, she means they never released build 59, so you never used it, so it can’t be more stable. You are talking about 58
November 10th, 2007 at 7:55 am
DiamondNRG, does BETA ever mean you dont ever test the application?
Being in softwares from a long time and working at THE BIGGEST software pioneer (yes imagine if you can), I think, I atleast know how SDLC should go.. I have also given beta/alpha releases.
When an application throws 99 thousand exception per second, I dont think it should be called beta/alpha.. it should be called carelessness or some flow in testing ethodology. Is this REASON enough (might be enough for you but not for me!)?
My effort is just to make trillian better, because I love it.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Right … well your post was insulting, and if you would look through bugzilla you would see that barely anyone has those kinds of problems. So the program is alpha, not careless. If you can’t handle the fact that you might have severe problems with it, then please, do not test it.
Someone else with your problem will report it in a much more constructive manner (on bugzilla where it belongs) and the devs will obviously look at it and try to fix it.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
I have persevered with Astra trying to get Hotmail to work but to no avail, I have tried the various fixes, still not working, everything else is working great, I even tried a new MSN account but it still will not work so each time I want to check my Hotmail account I have to use Messenger or windows live, does ANYONE have any suggestions. AAAAAAARGH.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:07 am
I have a problem and need help …..
I downloaded the Trillian 4.0 buil 118, I have already created an account astra but to lodge at the time to access my contacts see me error … I have to change connection options but not to put ayundenmeeee please!!
December 20th, 2009 at 11:52 am
100% the latest beta build of Trillian Astra 4.1 is crashing network on any computer I try it on. Windows, 7, Vista, and XP tested same effect! Build 19 is a network bomb!
I connect to yahoo, msn, aim, skype, facebook, and aim. When Trillian 4.1 build 19 is on it will drop my home network and then reboot skype!
Now if I have just skype on without Trillian I have zero internet problems and skype stays connected perfectly!
