Build 62: Status Message Editor!

Build 62 is now available. With it, Trillian users now have a wide variety of options for status message management, including:
- Groups. While we’ve had support for groups since Trillian 3.1, not many people knew about the feature because it was buried deep in preferences. Now refreshed, grouping your away messages is a breeze and supports easy drag-and-drop management.
- Music tracking! Share your outstanding taste in music with your contacts using the new music watcher. This functionality has also existed in previous builds, but was buried in our advanced events system – we’ve brought it front-and-center to ensure it works as a generic status message.
- An overhaul of the contact list status menu – we’ve re-organized some of the existing options and now support a “most recently used” feature, so your top 3 status messages are always available in the topmost menu.
- Randomize support – those of you with a large number of status messages can now request that Trillian select one at random, freeing your brain for other critical tasks.
- Formatting/emoticons in editor. Self-explanatory; when applicable service-side, we’ll now let you easily modify the colors, fonts, and emoticons inside your status messages.
- Variable support. Currently we support the %time% variable, but more variables will be added in the future!
- Plugins can now set arbitrary status messages via our Plugin API.
- Trillian will now save your status message between loads; if you’re away, you’ll stay that way after restarting Trillian.
Work continues on the overhaul of the Jabber and Google Talk plugins; when complete, both services will be available on our OS X and Web ports, and we will finally begin work on our proxy support (SOCKS4, SOCKS5, HTTP)! It was crucial that all existing services were adapted to our newer IMCore infrastructure before we started altering any proxy code, and we thank the proxy users among you for your infinite patience.
Enjoy the build!

Can’t wait to get it running!
November 9th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
just installed it
November 9th, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Great … and some of those were things I just posted about yesterday!
November 9th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Very nice!.. I was a little freaked out because my password for Astra was coming up invalid.. And, then after hitting it about 6 times, it updated into this build.. Besides that, all is great.
It’s coming along nicely!
November 9th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Great Work! Waited for this a few builds..
)
November 9th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Deleting an away message that you just created and is not yet saved crashes Trillian. And the dialog is missing two status icons for Google and Jabber.
Submitting bugs now …
November 9th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
WOWOW Great, I was looking for this status message between loads
November 9th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Hallelujah and thanks. I haven’t been able to use Astra since I switched over to Linux at home. Since IT at work blocks strange outbound ports, I’ve had to go back to using Trillian 3 until all the proxy stuff is sorted out.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Anybody else seeing Astra use massive resources? Quite often, usually when going offline, it keeps counting up… it’s gone as high as 1.85gigs.
November 9th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
nice…
I hope the sms from icq will be here soon
November 9th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
The current song option is always prepending a square symbol and a space while using WinAmp 5.35 (I know I need to update it, lol). Anyone else seeing this?
example:
♫ Kansas – Carry On My Wayward Son
…actually, it the square symbol just ins’t showing properly in Trillian Astra, but when I copied and pasted here it shows up as the music notes symbol. So I guess..is anyone else not seeing the music note symbol, but instead a square? My fonts are default so I shouldn’t have to change anything on my own for this to show up since other people won’t be changing things or even know how.
November 9th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
I was literally SECONDS away from installing Pidgin just so I could show my music status. Thank god you enabled this in the new build!
November 9th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Kyleabaker, I have the same problem, and I’m using the latest version of Winamp. I’ll see you on Bugzilla
Great build, guys! Keep playing around until that alpha becomes a final release
November 9th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
I can’t wait until they add the option to locaion of the message windows. There used to be a plug-in that would allow you to set where the creation of the windows would be on the screen. I miss that functionality. Other than that, I love this version and the enhancements that they make.
November 9th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
Neontaz … the thing you are talking about was a separate program, not a plugin … and all it did was manually change the numbers in the interface settings. You can do all of that manually still (not sure if that program will be updated) … all the info is available with a simple search on the forums.
November 9th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Wow, this is great!
Until now it works pretty good.
Go on guys
November 9th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Music tracking problem – submitted as Bug 4267
November 9th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Nice work. But it would be helpful, if i could choose, at which away status trillian goes back to “Online”. For example when I’am invisible I want to stay invisible when I send messages to other people.
November 9th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
there seem to be a bug. In Trillian Astra. I can’t seem to change the picture icon.
November 9th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Cool. I just bought pro to get faster on the beta list for astra!
- Pc1203.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:26 am
Just double click the picture icon to change it.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:56 am
Nice. I am SO glad to have trillian remember away statuses again… in 3.1 I’d just always leave my away message up all the time, so it’s been hard to remember to put it up every time i log in (I leave up a generic away message bc i tend to wander off from my computer and forget to put one up)
November 10th, 2007 at 1:00 am
What media player work with the current song away message? Does Windows Media Player work?
November 10th, 2007 at 1:21 am
RISING ISSUE!
THANKS TRILLIAN ASTRA TEAM FOR READING MY PREVIOUS POST ON THE CHATROOM PROBLEM AND FIXING IT BY THE NEXT BUILD. I WAS IMPRESSED TO SEE THE FAST FIX ON THE PROBLEM AND NOW PEOPLE CAN INSTANT MESSAGE PEOPLE NORMALLY IN CHATROOMS BY DOUBLE CLICKING THEIR NAME.
ANYWAY…THERE IS A RISING PROBLEM EFFECTING A LOT OF USERS, ME INCLUDED…
TRILLIAN ASTRA IS STARTING TO CONSUME A LARGE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES, AND IT IS TAKING UP CPU BY 100% AND NOT DROPPING! MY COMPUTER LAGS, PROGRAMS STALL, AND TRILLIAN FREEZES WAY TO EASILY. THIS IS A CORE ISSUE AND IS STARTING TO BECOME A RISING CONCERN… LAST THING PEOPLE WANT IS A POWER-CONSUMING, CPU-HOGGING, MEMORY-DRAINING PROGRAM WHEN THEY CAN USE SOMETHING ELSE THAT’S EASIER ON THEIR SYSTEM.
Good Luck.
November 10th, 2007 at 1:32 am
I’m having the same issue as in the previous build . . . MSN Messenger is going online, offline, online, offline, online, offline every second . . . I can’t use it as friends get annoyed with my constantly signing in & out . . . plus, there’s no way to send a message.
November 10th, 2007 at 1:32 am
gonna try completely uninstalling it and then reinstalling from scratch
November 10th, 2007 at 1:34 am
out of curiosity can anyone actually get these now playing widgets going? i’m running XP SP2. Alienware…solid build and this doesn’t pick up WMP 11 at all. I’ve had this this problem since i was invited in build 50. Ideas, help, something?!
November 10th, 2007 at 1:55 am
Now playing widget works for me.
Soul… you should add your system specifics to bugzilla. That CPU problem only happens to a few people and they likely need to know much more detailed technically information than that from those it affects in order to work on it. But in general, performance improvements are mostly a beta stage, alpha typically is for adding features.
November 10th, 2007 at 2:37 am
Thanks for this great program Trillian Astra team!
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows how the “Music Catcher” actually works? I’m using J. River Media Studio (with an msn currently playing plugin) but it doesn’t seem to catch it.
I wrote my own plugin which would set the status to the playing song, but it’s not all that great. Does what it should though
Thanks
//Homer
November 10th, 2007 at 4:49 am
yeehaw… I think I will really love this build… I hope, it won’t brake …
but I think it will
November 10th, 2007 at 6:31 am
the inability to send offline messages to aim contacts still exists.
November 10th, 2007 at 7:45 am
It has a bug.. Some of the away messages on yahoo shows HTML code instead of output away message. Can you please add option to set messages in JUST PLAIN TEXT also?
November 10th, 2007 at 8:14 am
Excellent Build. I am having no issues to report.
November 10th, 2007 at 8:19 am
Great Build
I got the same problem with the music icon.
Now Playing works only with WinAmp?!
Will the support 4 wmp & mpc added?
November 10th, 2007 at 11:18 am
still having trouble using Google Talk, because Trillian Astra is limited to the gmail.com domain only. However I am not a Gmail subscriber but having a screen name for GTalk linked to my email, which is not with Gmail. Hence wondering whether this a known bug and/or a workaround is available?
November 10th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
vtol .. in that situation you use the Jabber plugin instead.
Mine was the same way but I still had a googletalk username and can actually log in with that username@gmail.com even without having a gmail account.
November 10th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
I have a problem that I’ve never seen before. When I set my away message as a custom one and it sends it automatically, it sends it as html. For example, I set my message to: “AFK. Call if its important.” When a person sends me a message on msn or aim, they get one that looks like:
AFK. Call if its important.
Any1 have any ideas why this happens?
November 10th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Ahh sorry for the double post. I forget that it would get translated to html!
AFK. Call if its important.
Hopefully the code boxes work. In any case, theres tags like and on front and end.
November 10th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
Sorry this is a bit spam ish, but the tags are like and without the spaces.
November 10th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
I honesty give up. You people know what html tags are, and they show up around my messages. Sorry for spam
November 10th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
ccac3, i’d suggest to ask about that issue in the discussion forum – there’s a preview mode there.
November 10th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
i like new editor… just one thing.
how do u get a new away message up thats not one u want to save? like a temporary one like
‘out having fun at Jake’s at 9pm’ or ’sitting at computer and coding hw ass 4′
be4 there was an option in drop down for i think ‘New Away Message’, and u had the option to save it. i usu set a temp away message like this saying what im currently doing.
i dont see this option in Set Status list anymore, only way to add away message is to goto Away preferences to create new group, or bring up an old one or standard Away message.
November 10th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
Well you can turn off the option to save messages that you type directly in the list right in the Prefs, that is what I did, as I don’t usually want to save mine.
November 10th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
[...] 62 has been released for Trillian Astra. According to the dev blog, this build mainly deals with improving the status message usability as well as a couple of other [...]
November 11th, 2007 at 12:11 am
Should still be a quick and easy option to add an away message without going into preferences to do it, right? why cant a link to New Status Message be in Set Status.
November 11th, 2007 at 1:04 am
Army, you just pick Away and type the message into the Contact List. It can not get any easier.
November 11th, 2007 at 2:35 am
It really sucks when a company says they will are going to give you something then don’t. What I mean is I am a pro customer and never received an invite. And don’t try to tell me its going to take a while to email them all as its been what 9, 10 weeks?
November 11th, 2007 at 5:58 am
Since the update to 62 I can’t start my Trillian. Always when loading the ICQ Plugin Trillian crashes.
Before updating to 62 Trillian did run without a problem!
November 11th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
Whatever6750 … perhaps you missed or deleted it, eh?
Rockzentrale … disable the ICQ plugin manually in plugins.ini and then report it in bugzilla so they can fix it.
November 11th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
hey DiamondNRG,
thanks for response… it automatically sets my away message to ‘Away since ##:##PM.’ if i do that, the place where you type an away message doesnt come up.
By ‘Contact List’ window, are you referring to the lil popup before where you could type/save an away message?
Any Ideas?
EDIT: Doh, just noticed what you were talking about… I gotcha, the brb area on the bottom of Trillian, just type in there. k got it. Kinda like that you can type in there quickly to change away state. I always went through Trillian->Set Status, and never noticed that bottom area.
Thanks,
Ari

One thing that is not obvious or is non existent is to remove smilies when the user needs to enter code snippets or a string of characters that may be interpreted as smilies midway. It would be nice to right click when an unwanted smiley appears and make it plain text. Therefore you and end user can see the same thing. Similarly functionality to the tab in HTML.
November 11th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
But you removing the smilie on your end has nothing to do with what the other person’s client will do with the text.
November 11th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
The latest release seems to be getting my contacts wrong. I just had a very confusing conversation where I thought I was talking to friend A but the messages were going to friend B. This is a little disconcerting and serious.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
ccanning … what medium were you chatting on?
November 12th, 2007 at 4:02 am
still having the problem with the status-mode using msn…cannot use trillian during working hours if this problem is not fixed. I need to be able to set my status to invisible without being reset to online all the time.
November 12th, 2007 at 10:16 am
I am sill having issues trying to log into MSN. I have installed Astra on 2 computers, One running Vista without any problems and the other running XP SP2 that is having the issue.
November 12th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
Auto update did not occur.
help –> check for updates – did not work
Exit, & restart
auto update at time of login did not occur
help –> check for updates – still returned “no updates available”
5 minutes later auto update finally recognized that there was an update & gave the option to update.
November 12th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Update occurred automatically for me. This hasn’t be a problem for me in the past. Now thought, I can’t log in. After the update occurred, I am now stuck at the logging in portion of the startup process. Below is a link to the image of what my Astra looks like when I try to start it.
http://wow.newclear.net/images/Stuck_Login.jpg
Kinda sucks that I can’t use Astra anymore on my work PC. I’ll try to install it on my laptop at work and see where that gets me.
November 12th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
Guys still having issues trying to set my status message as the song that WMP 11 is playing. WMP11 does see the trillian plug in. But nothing is happening.
November 12th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Forget that last message just got it working. Guys Astra is looking great. Can’t wait for skype plug in
November 12th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Trillian updated itself, It was ok, but since I restarted the computer, I cannot log in. It stops at the login window, and the whole computer “freezes”, so i have to manually close the application. Any idea?
Someone would please send me the link for the last update (i cant find the email i got months ago.)? I hope a reinstall will solve the problem.
November 12th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
johnrwhill .. There will not be a skype plugin.
November 12th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Umm everything was fine with this build until today when trillian kept on starting in offline mode even though I had an active connection. nothing will connect.
November 12th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
As far as I can tell, the Now Playing status tracker works with iTunes and WinAmp only. As one of the few, the proud, the Zuners, I’d like to see at least WiMP 11 support, if not Zune Media Player 2.1 support too once that comes out.
November 12th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
Okay I fixed the problem of offline mode but AIM still refuses to sign in. Rather it keeps on trying to sign on and then it disconnects and continues to cycle through this until AIM servers make me wait 15 minutes to sign on again.
November 13th, 2007 at 1:13 am
Where’s the option to disable the auto-respond?
November 13th, 2007 at 6:56 am
So, someone please tell the link? I’d like to reinstall. My email is velvet _ AT _ zortal _d o t_hu
Please help me, MSN messenger sucks!
velvet
November 13th, 2007 at 7:15 am
velvet, i’d say that you need to find your invitation mail… the link isn’t provided in other ways.
November 13th, 2007 at 10:52 am
@ Velvet – you got your e-mail.
November 13th, 2007 at 11:19 am
Thanks!
I’ve bought a new notebook, and my emails were stored on the old one…. And I moved to italy for a scholarship, so I cannot just go home….
Btw i really like trillian.
November 13th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Thanks to the development team for having the foresight to complete core sections of the app before messing with network connectivity. Altering too many variables at once makes for long nights of troubleshooting.
That having been said, I’m a proxy user, and have been EAGERLY ANTICIPATING the work that you’re about to begin. Thank you!
November 13th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Does anyone know how to fix the problem with AIM not connecting? It keeps on connecting and disconnecting until AIM servers ban me from signing on for 15 minutes. When I try to connect the AIM icon keeps flashing but does not sign me in, instead it blinks on and off until it says connection failed.
November 13th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Never mind but my solution was very ackward. I went onto AIM express and signed in. Then I clicked sign in on trillian’s AIM connection and for some reason it connected this time. I’m posting this just in case somebody else has the same problem.
November 13th, 2007 at 9:28 pm
DiamondNRG: No I dident delete or loose my invite…
November 14th, 2007 at 11:12 am
so what about that login freeze now??
November 14th, 2007 at 11:51 am
Awesome, how many function Trillian:Astra already has got at this time…
Keep on doing that good work!
One thing: Under the proxy settings, there are no protocolls to select.
Would be nice if there were an https:// support
Best regards, Stephan
November 14th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Perhaps this is the wrong place to ask, but I’ve gotten a new computer, and I can’t find my Alpha tester link to download Trillian Astra again. Could someone give me a link to it or tell me how I may get to it?
November 14th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
By the way, my e-mail is dannydyer1000 A_T gmail D_O_T com.
November 14th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Is there a web based login that I can use for Safari when I’m at work? Up until now it has not worked when I have attempted to log into http://www.trillian.im from a mac computer.
November 14th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
“save your status messege between loads”-
Is there a way to turn this off? I mean, I can understand the usefulness in certain scenarios, but generally if I restart trillian, that means I was at the computer to do it physically- and thus, am no longer away:P
November 14th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
Unfortunately you need your login information for Astra in order to continue beta testing. A link probably won’t do you any good now.
November 14th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
So far so good, awesome work.
I have two questions/suggestions:
1. Linux…. When are you planning on the Linux version??
2. Webbased Astra, is it going to include more features? right now I cannot modify my contacts as I would normally do under the Windows Client version.
November 15th, 2007 at 12:20 am
I do have my login information for Astra, though – all I need is to be able to download the Astra client program again, wherever it is.
November 15th, 2007 at 12:31 am
Oh, also – I haven’t recently been able to log in via the trillianastra.com website – it looks like it’s about to login but then displays the message “Error #272 during server poll.” Is anyone else experiencing this or is it something wrong with my account?
November 15th, 2007 at 12:34 am
pnkrkrgeo92: I just realized that you probably weren’t talking to me, so you can disregard the message two above this one.
Sorry for the triple post!
November 15th, 2007 at 2:28 am
Stupid questions, First if i am a current alpha tester where do i submit a bug report? Second, how do i change my astra password or can this not yet be done.
I know this isn’t the right place for these questions but i searched the site quite a bit. i have a login for trillian 3.1 pro but i can’t find anything about asta in there.
Thanks,
Brandon
November 15th, 2007 at 5:17 am
Where you are supposed to post a bug is mentioned in the invitation mail you received and no afaik you can’t change you Astra password yet. Hope that helps.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:52 am
@OriginalName2000 – Link is in your inbox.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:59 am
@Blizz – to report a bug go here
http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/
November 15th, 2007 at 11:13 am
Bryan, you need to stop sending out the link to download Astra. That is a violation of the terms in your invitation email.
November 15th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
The link is the same one that is on the trillian web page.
The link gets you nothing unless you have a valid username & password to actually download the program.
So how is this a violation? If the information is already on Trillian’s own website?
November 15th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
So, is there a solution to the “Loggin In…” issue? After upgrading, I have not gotten past that initial screen.
Gracias
November 15th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Bryan, the link is not on the webpage anywhere. And the username and password to download it are not unique, you should know this… Plus putting the installer in the hands of people that can’t use it just encourages more people to hack it apart.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Then i’ll just direct them to contact customer support, & let customer support deal with them.
November 15th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
There is no customer support for Astra yet, if they lose their email they are out of luck.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:20 am
Please resolve bug with jabber(gmail). It doesn’t save password.
November 16th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Hopefully there is a release today that will resolve the “Logging In…” issue for those of us that feel we’re using white font on a white background…
November 16th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Roscop … if you mean you think are being ignored, perhaps you should add any info and input you have to the relevant thread in Bugzilla. You can also vote for it to let the devs know what is most important to you (all of us). The blog is in no way the official way to get your input into the alpha test.
ghendos … It looks like a lot of Jabber and GoogleTalk bugs have been fixed this week as those plugins are converted to the new IMcore structure. So hopefully the next release (probably today) will include those updated plugins and perhaps that issue will be one of them that is fixed. I also have heard that issue is tied into using a non-english version of Windows … is that true with your install also?
November 17th, 2007 at 4:05 am
I wish stuff worked w/ stixe skins already
I like my desktop realestate.
October 31st, 2009 at 1:09 pm
It shouldn’t be that difficult to add a %date% to the away message. When will this feature be added? Is this something that I can make a plugin for?
