Build 63: XMPP refresh, Gmail.

Build 63 is now available. As of this build, all of our network plugins have been fully ported to the new IMCore system and are available on all platforms – Win32, Web, and OS X. We’ve fixed a number of the outstanding issues in the Jabber and Google Talk plugins, and Gmail users should appreciate the new mail integration with their contact list.
Finalizing all of our network plugins is a significant milestone for Trillian Astra on the road to a public beta test. We will be working on proxy support and a few more UI enhancements next week, and following that we will be beginning work on our audio/video integration. There are still a few minor features we’re hoping to add into Astra before beta – if you’re still waiting on a particular feature to be implemented, be sure it’s in Bugzilla and vote for it! Once our beta testing begins we will focusing exclusively on performance and bugfixes, so now is the time to suggest a feature. Of course, there’s always Trillian 4.1, so don’t be upset if your favorite feature didn’t get implemented by the time we reach beta.
Enjoy the build!

this sounds really good… downloading the build now…
thanks!
November 16th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
Looks as if the MSN My Mail bug is still there…
It’s loading file:///c:/documents
I saw that this bug is noted in Bugzilla, I wonder if they’ll ever fix it…
November 16th, 2007 at 4:32 pm
I can’t sign on with GoogleTalk but I can with Jabber.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
nice new build, i will see if it more stable
November 16th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
I love the big dipper \ northern star pic. Looks like the flag for the state of Alaska.
November 16th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Woo Hoo! You guys are doing great! Thanks for such an excellent product! Cannot wait until you guys add in the Audio/Video options! Maybe think about adding a Photo share like in AIM and yahoo
. Once again! Awesome job! Thank you again!
November 16th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Working fine on Vista Business. Thanks for the build
November 16th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Yeah sounds nice, I’m downloading it now aswell. Someone do me a favor if you have access to the bugzilla for this and ask them to implement a feature which auto organizes contacts to their default “email” groups.
Example:
-AIM CONTACTS-
Jullez002@aim.com
Erika32@aim.com
Bobbybooshay@aol.com
-MSN CONTACTS-
tuyrss@hotmail.com
fjfjk4@hotmail.com
fnjss@msn.com
-PASSPORT CONTACTS-
jfkfls@fluffykit.com
milo03@chipchopchip.com
bopoya@chicagotimes.com
blackriderzz@hackermail.com
-YAHOO CONTACTS-
blankblank@yahoo.com
chulo@yahoo.com
You get the picture. I would love that feature so I don’t have to always organize it myself, it takes too long and I like it being neat.. They should also organize it in the order of who you talk to the most for each contact group or alphabetically.
Goood Work CS!
November 16th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Gmail is working well so far! Awesome build thus far.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
ipollesion, if you downloaded Astra, you have access to BugZilla. No need for someone else to do it.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
still having trouble using Google Talk, because Trillian Astra is limited to the gmail.com domain only. However I am not a Gmail subscriber but having a screen name for GTalk linked to my email, which is not with Gmail.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
@kryptonite,
I forgot where it was, I was in it before.
URL anyone?
November 16th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Nevermind delete this comment and my previous one for kryptonite.
it’s http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/
November 16th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
Does anyone wanna walk me through on how to get GMail set up? I have no idea where to start.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
The Jabber plugin silently crashes my Trillian now when enabled at any point.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Something happened to my install in the last build. When I attempt to run in Vista Home Prem. the login screen remains up and trillian never finishes launching. None of the plugins load. I have tried an uninstall but many files/menu items are left after Add/Remove programs uninstall and restart. Installed new build and still can’t get in. Have submitted a bug report, but has anyone else seen / corrected this?
November 16th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Ticket for problem I mentioned above with screenshot of “Welcome to Trillian!” screen. http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4338
November 16th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Hey guys, I don’t get it, I can’t use the profile editor – it doesn’t lemme add any widgets or web services! I select them and the whole wall is just blank! help?
November 16th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
@zenithwolf, make sure that you have Flash 9 installed for IE (installing it only for Opera and Firefox isn’t enough).
@musicman2059: in preferences – plugins, enable the respective plugin, and then add the connection using your whole gmail address. in connection prefereces, you can set the rest.
November 16th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
shinobistyle … that issue is widely known and the solution is to click cancel and then close the window and relaunch it. It seems that it corrupts the hash of your astra password somehow, so then it will reprompt you for it. There is tons of information on this in the forums.
ipollesion … they are already sorted by service by default. And right click on “MY CONTACTS” and you will see you can always sort by service or by conversation history size. Those options have been there for a while.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
@Diamond – I don’t have cancel available to me. My only option is to close the “Welcome to Trillian!” window via the “X” at top right. If you view the bugzilla link I provided above and check the attachment you will see what I am seeing.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
AIM continues and continues and continues to disconnect… “Connection to AIM has failed. Click here for more information.”
[16:00] *** Error while connecting (Error Code: 10054). Disconnecting.
[16:00] *** Disconnected.
[16:00] *** Reconnecting to AIM as “f*****2000″.
[16:00] *** Error logging into AIM: You are attempting to sign on again too soon. Please wait ~15 minutes and try again! Do not login during this period or it will only extend itself.
[16:00] *** Disconnected.
Anyone else get this problem? Is there a fix for this? I know it isnt my end of the internets doing this.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Congrats on a significant milestone! I got to be number 22!
November 16th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
@shinobistyle: did you try manually downloading build 63 (from the link in your invitation mail) and installing it?
November 16th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Hi @ all,
sry… all was perfect in past… but this it caught me :
Trillian has detected an error and must close.
(C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\Trillian\Crash Files\crash.1195250918.dmp)
…anyone want that ?
All I tried was not successful : restarting…, complete download of the new current.exe… – nothing helped
Any ideas here for me ?
thx nayss
November 16th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
@virgoville – I have uninstalled (which leaves many files apparently) and restarted. Then downloaded builds 62 (prior to today) and build 63 (as of today). Trillian still hangs the same way at startup. It seems that something that is left over by the incomplete uninstall (corrupt file not in the Trillian directory / registry entry) is causing the problem but I can’t prove that.
November 16th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
+ to above, by “I can’t prove that” I mean it could just as easily be a configuration problem or Vista thing on my computer as some Windows updates have been installed since first receiving build 62, which auto-updated and ran fine until a day or so after the update was released when I tried to start it up again.
November 16th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
shinobistyle, so delete the Trillian directory completely, including the one inside your Vista userfolder in the AppData folder (which is hidden).
Again I will state there is tons of info on this problem in the forum
November 16th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
@nayss – I experienced the same thing right after updating to Build 63 at least after the entire app loaded and my contact list showed that the connections started. To resolve it temporarily, I quick relaunched the program, opened the preferences as soon as my buddy list appeared, and disabled the Jabber plug-in. It crashed one more time, but since then it’s been running okay.
November 16th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Silly question (probably already been asked elsewhere), but I noticed that this post said “all of our network plugins have been fully ported to the new IMCore system”: Is Astra going to have Rendezvous messaging functionality like was in Trillian 3.x? The Rendezvous functionality was really handy with Trillian 3.x when the Internet gateway would lose connectivity since you could still communicate with LAN users.
November 16th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
where is the link to download the beta to test it?
Thank s in advance
November 16th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
eeehhh… just threw my vista pc out the window today (not literaly), so I’m waiting for a alpha OS X release
tuesday, please, tuesday ^^
oh, do you guys by any chance have that picture as an astra wallpaper or something like that?
November 16th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
@dancon – you need to sign up here to get it (it’s non-public alpha, not beta yet):
http://www.astra.im/signup.html
you also need your own Astra ID to be able to use the app, so that the installer itself would be for nothing.
and about all support questions… guys, really try the forum – Astra Chat, you can also post crash .dmp files threre:
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71
November 16th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
@ronicat
thx for help – ur right !!
since then its running solid as before.
But I found it by myself – had the same problem with an earlier version/build of Trillian Astra weeks ago, this has nbeen fixed two builds later, I think. After I disabled the jabberplugin I restartet TrillianAstra – and : wonder-o-wonder
will check out the new features now…
November 16th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Woot! I’m loving this
I probably use Google Talk the most, along with my Gmail account. You guys are making it unbearable for me to wait!
Also, I love that pic =D
November 16th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Since I haven’t been invited to alpha yet, I was wondering if anybody could answer my question about the current features. Not one of the most important things, but are custom emotions supported for MSN as they are in the official Microsoft messenger? If not, are there chances of it being included?
November 16th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
huth… they aren’t going to open OSX up until Windows is farther along, they already said that. Guess you better go outside and pick up your Vista machine
dancon, you have to apply to test it, and there is a long wait, http://www.trillian.im/
ferricoxide … The rendezvous plugin is not scheduled for an update for 4.0. The 3.1 version still works fine in Astra though. They have said it may get an update for 4.1 though.
November 16th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Anyone experienced Google Talk crashing when trying to add yourself to your contact list, or trying to send a message to yourself?
There’s also some soft of…waiting for authorization message when using GTalk. Haha, I can’t talk to myself, have myself show up on my buddy list as online or authorize myself.
November 16th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
@werwin – check the forums, this thread might be what you want to read:

November 16th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Whenever I try to update my profile, the window says “Flash 9″ required. I have downloaded Flash Player 9, but I still get this message in the window.
Also, nothing happens when I click on the link in the update profile window, I have to download Flash manually.
November 16th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
CrispinBurke, did you install Flash Player 9 in INTERNET EXPLORER? Applications that use the flash plugin on your machine need the one that is for IE as that is the one that Windows uses. Firefox and Opera and such have flash player plugins that ONLY work on those respective browsers.
November 16th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Still having problems- I’ll have Astra running just fine… then, I’ll keep my laptop running, and take it with me from my house to my car… I’ll lose my internet connection… until I get to the coffee shop or somewhere with a signal. By then, Trillian is going nuts… aggressively using resources… it keeps going up and up, I usually see it in the 1.8gig zone… and then I have to ‘end task’… if my computer doesn’t just crash first.
November 16th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Oh, also… every time it starts up I get a message:
“Trillian is currently running in offline mode and not connected to the Trillian Astra network…”
November 16th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
r180 … on the forums there is help for both of those issues.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
Love the new build… Only thing I noticed is that for Google Talk, now most my G-Talk contacts have reverted back to their email addreses… not the nicknames that I had assigned them.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
@DiamondNRG – I had previously uninstalled and manually deleted the Trillian directory in Program Files. Deleting the AppData location helped. Thanks for giving more info.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
its pretty nice the one feature im hopeing they readd is the ability to go to yahoo chat thats one thing i liked about trillian but i dont think they will readd that part of trillian in astra b/c of the code u have to enter to get into yahoo chat but other then that nice build
November 17th, 2007 at 12:19 am
WHERE IS BUGZILLA? (LINK PLEASE)
ANYWAY, HERE IS A LIST OF COOL NEW FEATURES THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED:
1. A way to enter AIM chatrooms through Trillian. 3.1 has this feature, but it seems to have been forgotten in Astra. A way to right click, select “choose chatroom” and choose from a list of chatrooms. If not this, at least a way to type in chatroom names and enter them. It is a messenger and chatting features like this should never be lost.
2. More widgets for the Trillian profile/web profile. Also, fix the ones that are currently made that don’t even work in the first place.
3. IMPORTANT: Ability to merge groups in contact list. You can create groups in Astra and AIM, but Astra will not let you easily drag whole members of groups into other groups or merge groups together and this is a huge flaw for people with hundreds or even more than 50 people on their buddy list.
4. Ability to delete groups created on AIM or other services without deleting contacts. Giving users the choice upon deleing a group on whether they want to keep the contacts in that group, and if so, transfering them over to a generic group such as “General”. I, for one, have an online group called Friends Online and another one called Online Friends and would like to merge the former with the prior, but it can’t be done and there are hundreds of contacts in each so dragging and dropping is inefficient and uneffective anyway.
5. Ability to use custom backgrounds in IM windows. Users can choose from a variety of preset background images to show inside the contact window for the user and the person they are speaking with to see or a way for them to choose their own images. With AIM and other services you can choose your backgrounds, so why not in Trillian as well?
6. More languages for international users.
7. Built in spell checker? Could be useful. Have been using Aspell in the meantime- like centuries old.
8. Ability to play games with people who use Yahoo Messenger? Instead of adding completely new features, why don’t you add functionality to Trillian that the standalone software have if you are trying to be an instant messenging all-in-one tool.
9. Auto replies. Ability for Trillian to automatically send replies to people who IM with specific phrases. Users can set up what the person has to say and what will be said to them in return.
10. More skins or custom windows.

Is there a way to retrieve your Astra password? I’ve tried every password I use, and none are working.
November 17th, 2007 at 3:27 am
AngelSword, the password is not something you picked, if you lost the email you are out of luck.
Soul…
1) This is probably still coming
This is a fufu feature. I am sure it is very hard to encode the stuff for Yahoo games. The new features Astra offer like the image and video capture are far more useful tools. That said, if you want this, request it in bugzilla.
2) Widgets are constantly being added and almost all of them work and of course they will fix bugs that people report. You have to use bugzilla and specifically list your actual problems. Bugzilla is http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com and the username password combo is in your invitation email.
3) This is a good idea, put it in bugzilla as a feature request
4) This belongs as part of the same feature request as #3
5) This already works, right click the message window and pick Options > Background. It is exactly the same as it was in 3.1.
6) Languages are made as users decide to make them, there are tons for 3.1 and there will be for Astra as well, it just takes time.
7) Possibly a good idea, but it makes more sense as a plugin, it just needs to be a current plugin.
9) Trillian has this already via a plugin called “Auto Responder” by Puck71. Not everything can or should be built in.
10) Skins and custom windows will show up but most developers are waiting for the skinning code to be final so that their skins are not broken with every build. Keep in mind this is an alpha software.
November 17th, 2007 at 4:04 am
Am I the only one who’s wondering about the IRC plugin? Where is it? Doesn’t seem to exist in Astra (unless I’m doing something wrong)
Is it coming back?
November 17th, 2007 at 6:03 am
I’m hoping I can finally “Manage Profile” cross fingers

November 17th, 2007 at 8:16 am
@Margarette, post your issue in the forums, with more details (describe the steps which you do and the result, and attach screenshots if necessary, too). here:
http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71
(i’m not sure if i guess well what’s happening, anyway – try using the cordonata skin, make sure that alpha blending transparency is enabled in skin settings, and that you have flash 9 for internet explorer installed.)
November 17th, 2007 at 8:21 am
i find it very annoying, when i change the focus from a message window to something else the taskbar button of this window is blinking as if a new message has arrived.
November 17th, 2007 at 9:13 am
@chrislu – it’s a known issue, bug #533
November 17th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Jalf … There is no 4.0 version of IRC. This was stated many times in previous blog entries. You can use the IRC 3.1 version in Astra just fine, just make sure to copy the language files in as well. IRC is going to be further developed as a 3rd party plugin instead from here on out.
November 17th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
When I tried to offline message somebody using MSN, I got an error saying that “offline messaging was unavailable”. Is this a known bug already or should I submit to Bugzilla?
November 18th, 2007 at 12:03 am
How can I see the list of people have me in your contact list in msn? In 2.013 it’s possible, but in astra version I don’t foud it
November 18th, 2007 at 12:09 am
Is ossible in the status indicator alert when there are emails how in 2.013 version?
November 18th, 2007 at 12:37 am
Quique …
For your first question … click the MSN status icon in your iconholder on the contact list and pick “CONNECTION PREFERENCES”, then click the PRIVACY tab. There is an allow list … that is the closest you can get.
For your second question, they removed that because “NEW MAIL” is not a status, never was, and never should have looked like it was. You can get mail popup notifications or sound alerts and you can add the account to the My Mail panel in the contact list.
November 18th, 2007 at 7:36 am
For those of you who care for a wallpaper of the image with the IM Icons (like me^^), I kinda put something together…
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3766/astrage6.jpg
Hope it’s OK I used the image, but I think it is since it has the astra logo in it
November 18th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
Sebastian … that is really ironic as I just made one of those yesterday and posted it on the forums… although I only spent like 2 minutes on mine and yours is better (I didn’t have the time to do it right then)
Any chance you want to make yours also in a standard aspect ratio? 1280×1024 or larger…? I could obviously crop yours down to the aspect ratio, but I don’t want to have to enlarge it afterwards and ruin it.
November 18th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
A few errors
1) When senting a msg in MSN to someone running invisible is tell me it can’t..
*offline messaging was unavailable* (I assume that’s more a bug on MSN side)
2) MYSpace doesn’t seem to be working..
It shows up as being online..
Yet anyone I’m not online on my myspace page.
http://www.imstatuscheck.com/ shows me as being offline
Adding an person to my list only shows up as orphaned
When I right right nick and look under add it shows up as offline
3) When I start trillain the group are always “closed”
I have to hit the “+”
November 18th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
DS2K … how are you adding myspace accounts to your list? with their UIN or account name? Don’t use their email address, that is only for adding your own connection.
And Astra remembers how your groups are when you shut it down…(provided you are actively connected to the Astra medium)
November 18th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Yeah MSN continues to malfunction in offline messaging. I believe this is an unresolved bug.
November 18th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
For some strange reason, when I turned on norton’s pop up blocker, AIM and ICQ both lost connection. I turned it off, then the connections were reestablished. Though the popup blocker isn’t a necessary tool that I need since Firefox blocks popups fine, it may be an issue that norton users may dislike.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
DiamondNRG
In privacy section I can block or unblock the contacts, but if an user of MSN doesn’t have me in her contact list and I have it, he continues appearing there, I seek the list where the users are found that have me in their list, to purify my list erasing to the ones that no longer they have me.
Other, Is it possible to move My Mail panel in other position, betwen others panels or bottom of all panels?
November 18th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Quique … that list is not accessible to you anywhere, sorry.
And yes, if you minimize the panels you can can drag and drop them in any order you want… such as to have your My Contacts first and My Mail second, etc…

Ok I have to ask how you find there UIN???
And Astra remembers how your groups are when you shut it down…

It didn’t remember it for a times, but seem to be working now.

Skash, all test builds will be of Pro. You will have to purchase it after it goes Final.
DS2K, yes the UIN is from the MySpace pages directly, but you can add with their username just the same, just not the email address (which makes sense as that can change) but the odd part is how the email address handles logging you into said accounts, very very weird.
November 20th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Man this is nice!!! Every build seems to get better and better!
November 20th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Have anyone seen the send file button?? And even via windows context menu I can’t send anything…I receive something like ***error (mail address) uses a messenger that does not support file transfer. And this problem came only since build 63…

November 20th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
predator … what medium are you talking about? Sending files is possible, but the windows integration does not work on Vista (yet) sadly.
If you are talking about MSN, perhaps whatever your contact is using is too old for Astra to be able to transfer files to it. It works fine to other Astra MSN accounts and to the newest versions of WLM.
November 20th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
EDIT: I take that back, you are right, it is indeed now broken in MSN… (sorry)
November 20th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
DiamondNRG
Could you include the reverse list in new releases? this list was in previus versions.
Other point, when other user of MSN that he use MSN and is invisible he can chat with other user of MSN but with trillian astra I can’t respod him.
November 21st, 2007 at 7:44 am
Yes it’s broken on msn and yahoo, I didn’t check with other services…and all my contacts are using WLM 8.1 or 8.5…so it’s not that the problem. Build 63 has something wrong with file transfers…
November 21st, 2007 at 9:37 am

December 4th, 2007 at 9:51 pm
would love the build more if I could get into the testing program….

Do you plan to add sametime support for Astra ? All other sametime plug-ins are not maintained anymore and don’t work with astra.
