Build 65: Bubbles Blossom!

A major feature debuts this week in Build 65. Continuing our efforts to renew the overall interface of Trillian, we tackled the area where it matters most: the message display. The new “Message Views” feature, also affectionately known as the “Bubble View”, will put the fun back into function by allowing you to switch between many different appearances and layouts for your instant message conversations!
Although similar functionality has existed in other instant messaging clients, we decided to take the idea one step further by optimizing the layouts for intelligent space usage and increased legibility:
- Combined bubbles with separators: Multiple messages from the same person will be clamped together as one bubble, neatly divided by subtle separators.
- Show only one avatar: Instead of repeating the avatar for every single message, we show only one. This reduces repetitiveness and visual clutter, saves (a lot of) space, yet messages remain identifiable. It looks great, too.
- Color Themes support: Dark themes totally rock now!
- Auto-History: Messages from the last conversations will have a dimmer bubble.
- Space efficiency: Worried about losing too much space for the elegance? No problem! Our design is much more efficient than most message view styles out on the Internet.
- Quick switching between views: You can currently switch between normal “Playscript” view and the new Bubble view quickly through Preferences -> Text Conversations.
- Copy & Paste and Image Pasting continues to work perfectly. (A lot of work was done to ensure these features remained consistent!)
To enable this feature, go to Preferences -> Text Conversations, and check the first option.
More improvements on Message Views are coming up in future builds. Currently, the new view is available for Cordonata only, and timestamps are missing in the new view, but they will be added back very soon. We will also have more concise system messages, and we will be fine-tuning the layout for better legibility as the builds progress. We need your feedback, so please let us know what you think and where we can improve the new Message View further on our forums.
Enjoy your weekend!

bing!
November 30th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
sweeet
November 30th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Sweet, cant wait to try it out.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
once again you all have done some great work!
nice job guys. very cool.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Great!
November 30th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
sexy. very sexy.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
I don’t have a Mac, yet i’ve heard a lot about switching users in MacOS. The picture reminds me of what I imagine Mac’s user switching to be like.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Nice, but I still don’t see the Display Name in the tooltips. It was there a few builds ago but now it’s gone. I miss this feature. I like to see what my contact’s current display name is since I rename em all. I use the Trillian Cobalt theme btw.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Hooray! Bubble comments. I was hoping you would add this.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Bubbles…Blossom…where’s Buttercup?
Seriously, as an IRC geek and a UI minimalist, I’ll need to see how compact this can be made…and timestamps are essential to my work via IM.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
I like !!!
November 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
this is cool, not sure if I can get use to it, but im going to give it a go.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
bing!!! first try –> first crash for months!
November 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Jabber connection option is causing consistent crashes.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Although I hardly find them useful from a functional standpoint, I do love the look of the new bubbles.
As wohali mentioned, I would love to see IRC working asap…
November 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Sweet, this is the second time i’ve used something like this. First was Apollo for the iphone
Hope to see this on the iphone version too (since it’s been down, i don’t know how it looks anymore).
November 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Gah! Seriously?! There are still core features that don’t work. When are conferences going to be fixed? This is getting ridiculous.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
once again but i got the view on it for few seconds… then it crashed again
November 30th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
Chat windows, unfortunately, seem to have been broken in the Cordonata skin – or at least fuddled a bit. All text is now left-aligned with the left edge of the window, instead of spaced inward as it should be. The message bubbles are neat, though.
November 30th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
O M G , amazing
November 30th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
Crashing here also….ARUGH
November 30th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Errm…Cordonata, minimal. How do I activate bubbles? I may be blind, but …
November 30th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
The colors on the message windows of the darker themes are still unreadable. Example: Halloween theme. How bout we stop working on minor touches and tweaks to the interface and start fixing some of the major functionality bugs. Functionality should be the most important piece since look and feel updates are just icing on the cake. If it doesn’t work, no one will want to use it.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
Ok, turned on the new bubble feature but it instantly crashed Trillian and now I can’t start up trillian because Aim send a message as soon as I log in before I can change the preferences to turn it off. I am sure I can edit a file somewhere to turn it off, can someone tell me which file and setting I need to change? Then I will check the bugs site and see if it has been reported yet and report it if it hasn’t.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
Got it..did not crash, yet
November 30th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
Very nice. The bubble are a nice addition. Thanks, keep up the good work. – Ian
November 30th, 2007 at 3:09 pm
And yet again… hotmail emails don’t send to the hotmail site, they send to c://program or something… please fix it
November 30th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Which Theme is pictured on teh Left in the image above? The one with the dark colors and the bubbles appearing in different colors. I would like to try that one.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
The bubbles are different colors because part of the conversation is from the last conversation.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
i really tried to be the first to test this. but anyways. I’m loving the style of the bubble message. great job
November 30th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Pretty cool, I like the way it looks. No crashing issues here (yet).
November 30th, 2007 at 3:16 pm
I love the bubbles, takes care of the readability issues with some of the skins. I only crashed when I tried to change it with conversation windows open. No problems switching with all conversations closed
November 30th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Excellent. Auto Updated just fine and can’t wait to fire up the Bubble Chat!!!
November 30th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
Sorry for the ignorance, I can’t seem to find this new option. Can someone point me in the right direction?
November 30th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Things are working well on this end!
To enable message view:
Prefs | Text Conversations | Message Display | check the box.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
@kasper
preferences>text conversations> 1st checkbox at the top reads, “Show messages in conversations bubbles”
November 30th, 2007 at 3:25 pm
2kasper4lyf: Preferences -> Text Conversations Read the text more carefuly next time
November 30th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
@Jake,
I must be completely blind, I cant believe I missed that.
No crashes here btw… Running on Win Vista Business…
November 30th, 2007 at 3:27 pm
[...] a new build available for the Astra testers. This build adds “message bubbles” which look an awful lot like SMS conversations on the iPhone. It’s nice, simple, and [...]
November 30th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
GREAT!!!
but… still no icq-smileys (neither old nor new style – although i’d prefer the old ones!)
and i miss the timestamp, too…
November 30th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
this is sooooo sweet!!!
November 30th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Congratulations… it’s borked. I cannot now load up Trillian without it instantly crashing.
Good job! Now I can watch the dark themed window from AOL pop up with it’s illegibly dark letters, then vanish as I’m informed Trillian has crashed.
Will the fun never end?!
Or will my entertainment be spoiled by the release of a working version?
November 30th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Ok, so I fixed my constant crash problem by editing the ini files a bit to stop the AOL plugin from connecting on startup. Then turned off the bubble option and put everything back to normal. No more crashing for now.
So question for those of you who have no problem with bubbles, What are your skin settings? are you using alpha-blending transparency? which interface? Original 4.0? minimal? tabbed? anything else you can think of that /might/ have an impact on this issue?
November 30th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Astra is now crashing immediately on startup at the “Initializing User Interface…” step. Time for a fresh reinstall, I guess.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
does this crashing only appear when you restart trillan? and is it connected to aim?
i installed it and it is workinf fine since then, but i am afraid it won’t work after i restarted it…
November 30th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Mine crashed at first in the Cobalt skin with greyscale theme, but I switched over to the cordonata skin, currently using the olive skin and it seems to work fine. I like the bubbles for their grouping of text, but there is alot of empty space, which wastes my valuable screen real estate. I miss cubbie’s microscopic skins, no wasted space.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
@RubyGloom –
Actually, i turned it on with an AIM conversation open and it instantly crashed and then when I start up trillian AIM sends a system message (to let me know I am signed on elsewhere) as soon as the program starts so it crashes right away. I do not know if it is ocnnected to AIM but I would guess that if it is working at all you won’t experience a problem when you restart.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
Amazing new look!!
Not exactly the same problem…But It crashes however!! Even if there’s no activity…it crashes.
And no trace of send file too…
Yoooopi, 3rd crash while I’m typing this… :-///, you should provide us with a quick fix guys, we can’t keep working with this problem.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
yeah um… one more for the it’s-crashing team
November 30th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
@ mantene
yes, agree…the crashes are over when I turned off the bubbles…Need more work I think.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
I gotta say that one annoying thing that has been through all the builds (perhaps by necessity) is that it resets my layout settings every time. I keep mine in Cobalt minimal mode, and it always resets.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
No Jabber Conferences option still? Found the prob with the Jabber crash: You can’t have more than one Jabber connection, period. Bummer.
Still NEED the Jabber Conferences option.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
its cool, but I love minimal skin, if not graphics I am waiting for google talk like bubble less text that is grouped under same name and timestamp untill third pirty writes something.
And MSN taking too long to connect… is it changed?
I am looking forward for way to send nudge in minimal skin either a button or command something like /buzz, buzz! or similar. like : – ) converts to
similarly Buzz! converts to nudge! in MSN.
A BUG Automatically made html tags in status message is not supported in Live messanger, everybody complain of html tags being shown. So i use main messanger window to write status message. Also isn’t there a way not to send automessage but just show message as status as MSN does? Trillian sends status message when away else can’t show status message.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
OK, I could not see anything in the chat window when running Bubbles on Cobalt in any layout. So I switched skins and ran with Cordonata in standard and the bubbles were working fine. Then I tried to switch back to Cobalt and still didn’t work. Then when in the Cobalt window, I tried playing around with settings and changed the text style, and Trillian crashed. Didn’t close out the window, just hung up and crashed and had to manually kill the process. Running XP Professional.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
Also bubble should some some icon if second person doesn’t have any Avatar.
And I am waiting to see histry icon and contact card tab hiding option in main griphical skin’s Message window. At buttom of textbox.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:32 pm
vcalzone, disable bubbles from message windows settings before using minimal skin.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
And MSN STILL doesn’t work!!
November 30th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
i wanted to close trillian and the contact list disappeares. icon is still in taskbar (right corner) and CPU wors at 100% (task-manager said tillian 99%, so i finished the task here, too). restarting it worked fine (i cancelled the automatical connection to aim before i closes the program in the first place)
November 30th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
I like the last few build, but 66 is the first one I have had trouble getting it to log me in. I have let it sit 5-10 minutes and it is stuck on the logging in portion of the start-up.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
I think we’ll need to start posting reminders of this, but to those of you referencing things that “still” don’t work, etc, please make sure to cite the bug number of the report you or others have filed in Bugzilla that reference your issue. Telling us things don’t work isn’t helpful by itself, as we can’t be certain your particular issue has been properly reported. If you haven’t filed a bug, don’t expect the issue to fix itself magically either – get into Bugzilla and tell us what’s broken so we can fix it!
November 30th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
4517 is the nr of the icq smileys issue i mentioned earlyer, sry
November 30th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Seems like it crashes on the 1st incoming message when bubbles are turned on. Anyone else seeing this?
November 30th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Exactly the same problem! Crash on first msg when bubbles are on.

November 30th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Hard time with this build, crash freeeeeeeeeeeeeez, burning CPU…I’ll use WLM till the next build.:(((

No crash here with the bubbles.
Predator2104: What CPU do you have? I’m running AMD Turion64 and CPU never gets over 43% even when mousing over the list.

Fine.. Reference Bug Numbers: 2868, 2037, and 3480. Respectively.
November 30th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Why do you all get so mad about what order they add things? This is alpha so its about adding features and stuff, beta is about fixing bugs
Great job S,K, and crew
November 30th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
this is an amazing feature, everybody I showed it to thought it was really innovative and looked really cool
November 30th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
If by Innovative, you mean “Stolen from iChat and Adium, who do it better” then yes.
November 30th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
i4get75: MSN will not sign in since build 58, I have to use the MSN plugin (msn.dll) from build 58.
predator2104: Happening to me too.
November 30th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Oh nooo! Don’t say “Stolen”…we’ve to say Inspired…and that’s nice! I love the bubble feature, I’m a comics designer so…now I’m back to build 62 (the best for me), but can anyone tell how to disable the auto update feature?
November 30th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
ARGH… auto-update of Build 65 and now the app. crashes with a Runtime Error! every time it starts. GRRR
November 30th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
so hopefully these problems will be resolved soon. if even the alpha versions are not running, we can neither help to invent new features, nor to delete any bugs (@ Diamond)
November 30th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
Wowww, I’ve never seen a build hated as this one…relax boys! It’s only Alpha

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
trillian astra pro 4.0.0.65
mine has been crashing since the install of build 65 as well. crashed first when i had an msn conversation window open and enable “bubbles”. restarted. enabled “bubbles” with no conversation window open. seemed to run fine for a couple hours. now it seems to be crashing every time i have an MSN window open and the typing indicator (red chat tab) is activated. aim was connected, but tried with and without that. same thing.
this could be an MSN issue as I just received a report from a user of the MSN client that his is crashing too.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Check the check… more than that… uninstalling and reinstalling to see if there’s just something wedged. sigh.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Caution when creating a Business card – after I created a card I switched from normal to icon view and then back again – Astra crashed
. Now Astra crashes on startup during login to the Astra Server. I cannot run Astra until this problem is fixed. Bug 4524
November 30th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Keeps crashing trillian, but fun feature.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
The bubbles work fine for me, but I’ll wait until time stamps get added. Also, I really like the Milk color theme, but the font colors are too hard to read. Many of the themes are this way. Can we get this fixed? Thanks.
December 1st, 2007 at 3:57 am
i’m downloading it now … can’t wait to try it …
December 1st, 2007 at 4:19 am
I really like the new bubble format. However I think buddy icons should be bigger in the chat window or at least people should be given an option to choose the size of the buddy icons displayed in chat windows. On my 1680×1050 my buddy icon looks tiny.
Also I think “dark themes totally rock now” is quite an exagerrated statement. Try using Black theme for instance. Then pop up a chat window and look at the white “Chat” text sitting on the Chat tab at the bottom. Switch to User Info tab and same happens for that one. White on white is hardly something that I consider to “rock”.
Still overall, I like the new additions. You guys just need to stamp out the problems with Black theme.
December 1st, 2007 at 7:17 am
I purchased Trillian Pro under the impression it worked as advertised. I still cannot video chat over MSN and I am not receiving any positive feedback. I understand Trillian Astra can do this: I have not yet received a copy. So what is your official solution, Cerulean Studios? The new messenger looks great but instead of adding all these fancy new features why don’t you fix the broken features that I was promised when you took my money? That is, after all, what I paid for.
All my love
Jim
December 1st, 2007 at 8:05 am
If Trillian crashes after activating try this one: Just disable “Show a line where I last left the conversation” under “Preferences -> Message Window”
Kevin posted this one in buzilla.
For me it worked fine!!! No more crashes!
Bubbles rock!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:49 am
Stolen from iChat and Adium that do it better?
COME ON … Yes, they have bubble view, but can you customize it? NO … This is not so much about this one view, it is about the fact that now we will able to completely control and tweak the text conversations part also!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:53 am
gahgah – thanks for the suggestion – the referenced setting is not set in my configuration. I think that it is an Astra Profile issue. If I have the Edit profile window open when I enable communications Astra just closes without creating a crash dump.
December 1st, 2007 at 11:44 am
Ummm…neat, I guess…but I can has audio/video back nao, kthxbai!
December 1st, 2007 at 1:57 pm
Ben: I’ve had the exact same problem with MSN since that build, but only at work, where my company runs an IM gateway that all our messaging platforms go to, I filed a bugzilla report but found no other references to this problem there, which lead me to think it was related to my work environment. My MSN simply constantly tries to connect, then immediately disconnects. What is your environment, and how does your MSN fail?
December 1st, 2007 at 2:12 pm
Awesome new feature. However, when I first saw the picture up at the top, I thought Astra was going to be fully 3D, like you can rotate messages and stuff. Plz? That would be awesome.

Good Idea but, man it’s only a msgr, and they have to think about people who do not have a quad core CPU and Geforce 8800…loool
December 1st, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Hmm… it’s cute, but… when can we expect some more standard features?
For instance, having some larger, easily readable text in the contacts list, having normal (96×96, though custom of any size would be appreciated) sized contact avatars in the contacts list (the “Large” size is only 48×48; ONE QUARTER of the size for the messenger programs we’re all used to!), and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to customize the layout/position of menus up top, and the right click menus!
Eye candy is great, but not if the program is missing basic functions!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:01 pm
..hi @ all,
…well, updated without problems,
…after build 64 i added irc 3.1.8.0. plugin… ’survived’ as well the actual update 65.
…all works proper and solid here. no crashes.
…the bubbles-style is really great !!! its a brilliant idea !!
…well, hoping for timestamps to come soon…
have a nice weekend @ all !

skin settings :
- Minimal 4.0
- Cordillera 2.1 (16×16)
- NO alpha blending
hope it helps you…
…and still one thing :
…no more problems than this message…
this aim system message thing – i get it since ? (just forgot how long i recieve it already…) …but always answered with 1… thats all, and aim is happy
@ starjimstar
…ur hurrying too fast, my young friend ! look here :
- recommending you, to take a modern lexica at first to use, BEFORE u write something – and read, what does they means by descriptions for beta/alpha-testing !
- when do u paid ? just last or couple a days ago ? then u paid for trillian 3 – not for trillian 4 (= astra !)
…both points above together seems to be finally: learn to read first ! i tried to get pro version via http://www.ceruleanstudios.com – there is listed Trillian 3.1 under product information ONLY. nowhere is trillian astra pro sold at this time. when i’m really wrong, post the direct link here pls.
- at top of the ‘buy pro’-page u have following informational sentence :
News: Trillian 3.1.8.0 released. Trillian Astra is in private alpha testing, including iPhone and Mac OS X versions.
…read – think – act.
December 1st, 2007 at 11:10 pm
…this is just a suggestion.
sry, but sometimes ppl forget, why we do this here : just to test it and to find the bugs to get them fixed by cs’ team (or 3rd-party-developers). just one little thing to remember :
so bigger it is, so more problems to find, so more difficult it is to fix them !
@ all : have a nice weekend, relax and enjoy !

December 2nd, 2007 at 6:30 am
nayss: look here: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/compare/
Trillian Pro is supposed to support video chat. It does not. That is blatant false advertising. I don’t give a shit about Astra as long as I get a solution. Or a refund. Or, first thing first, some sort of response from Cerulean Studios. Four emails later I have not heard anything. Customer support leaves so much to be desired. But I’m sure you are all aware of that by now.
December 2nd, 2007 at 6:54 am
Trillian Pro does support video chat. Astra is not Trillian Pro.Trillian Pro is version 3 – Astra is Trillian 4 Beta, and still in beta test.
If your video chat isn’t working, you need to get Quicktime – it supplies teh video handling for Trillian Pro.
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:06 am
I have QuickTime. I get the following message when I receive a video chat invitation:
“_____ invited you to start Video Call, which requires the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. You can install the latest version at http://g.msn.com/5meen_us/122.“

Ohh God!! Have anyone noticed that new bug?
the messages are restricted to a minimum amount of letters!! In the previous builds, I got Msg Splitter installed and can write a book with no problems…now I have to write an SMS looooool…
December 2nd, 2007 at 8:01 pm
@ starjimstar
hi jim
well, this trillian pro is not astra, do realized that ? astra is trillian 4 and is still a non-public test, see the spotlight at top of this page u posted here.
I am using atm only astra, but my old trillian 3.1.8.0 (i already removed it at last when I was cleaning my hdd) was working proper. I could use video chat and any sounds as well, without any problems.
I know, that most users have problems with apples windows version for quicktime. my problems i had looong time ago has been caused by my former quicktime alternative installation. the deinstallation routine doesn’t works clean, so fragments of this are ‘disturbing’ the original quicktime by apple.
-> maybe is there a possible reason, why it doesn’t works with ur comp ?
I’m afraid, that the reason is not the trillian pro, but (any) ur computer’s software… this is most reason of problems like that. all u write here about sounds like that.
December 2nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm
part 2
@ starjimstar
I can’t tell any about the costumer support at cs, I never needed help since I’m using trillian.
the other page cannot displayed with the msn thing. but this can be also a config-problem with ur comp.
i think, the OS (is definetively windows, obviously xp ??) is believing, that ur using windows messenger as default. try this one :
start -> control panel -> software / add or remove programs -> set program access and defaults (left grew navigation panel) -> costum -> (scroll down to) choose a default instant messaging program -> select trillian -> ok
…after them close all windows and restart.
i don’t believe, that this fixed your problems, but the os might be know now, what the real default is. this g.msn.com page (i tried to look there, but error 404…) seems to be a page for window messenger as default. you might be directed to windows live messenger installation i think…

My Trillian keeps crashing randomly with the latest release.
December 3rd, 2007 at 3:29 am
Still Same Bug
From Time to Time, I get disconnected from MSN, but trillian still says I’m On …
Am I the only one who get this bug?
December 3rd, 2007 at 4:56 am
Running great on my xp laptop! I decided to try and figure out how to get it running on my desktop (Ubuntu x64) via Wine and it installed fine, but upon launching the application there were a couple errors encountered with dlls (dwmapi.dll & ntdll.dll were two that I remember). Hopefully I can get this running on linux soon so I don’t have to boot up into windows or use my laptop just to use Trillian from now on.
Good build!

Completely useless feature. There are still core features that don’t work!!! When it’s going to be final version released? In 2010? :-/
Why don’t you make a final version of Astra and things like bubbles and similar useless things are not added in next sub-versions?
December 3rd, 2007 at 1:36 pm
Joenas, why don’t you read this whole page and realize these are the features that the USERS want. See all the people above liking it?
The only big feature missing from the core is audio/video and I am sure they are working on it.
Starjim … you can be as mad and as profain as you want about your video chat problem. Should CS have updated their feature list when WLM BROKE IT? Yes, they should have. Is it blatently false advertising? NO IT IS NOT. You bought a 2 year old software program and are mad that it doesn’t still work perfect … why didn’t you use the trial software. I understand the other users think you are complaining about Astra and they are misreading your issue. But you posting it to the ASTRA blog is pointless. Have you filed a support TICKET? or just sent them emails? Filing the ticket is the right thing for you to do and the only thing you can do. And because of what the problem is, if I was you, in your situation, I would have asked for a refund.

Bhaal…same prob here. But again…the invisibility problem is more important for me. Constantly keeps putting me back online on MSN…
December 3rd, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Bhaal, uncheck the option for it to change your status based on keyboard and mouse activity.

oh nice! I just got the chance to update. We been having some snow storms where I’m at so internet been on and off. The bubbles so far are working for me. YAAY!
The manage profile problem (bug #4047) is still happening though.
December 4th, 2007 at 8:59 am
I encountered the bubble crashing problem as well, here’s a fix that worked for me but you mileage may vary.
I started up Astra and went invisible and Trillian loaded without popping up any AOL mulitple sign on windows which had crashed Trillian. I then went into the Preferences and turned off the bubbles. I started it up again and everything was fine.
December 4th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Forgive my ignorance, but I can’t seem to find how to get into Bugzilla anywhere. Whenever I try to use the new bubble feature, Trillian crashes. Sometimes it is immediately when I enable the option in Preferences. Sometimes it is successfully enabled, but after I start a conversation with someone it crashes.
December 4th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
I don’t know if this has been discussed previously, but when their person who has a web cam is on my list it does not give me the ability to watch it. Also I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking and it seems to work improperly at times when trying to correct misspelled words unlike previous Trillian version.
December 4th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
Hmm, wondering if I am the only one: I just enabled the “bubbles” and now my Trilliac crashes when I get messages. I disabled them again and all is fine. This definitively seems to be a problem with YIM.
Otherwise great work
And renaming of contacts still does not work, would be good if that would get fixed soon as it is a bit annoying.
December 5th, 2007 at 12:50 am
cwruck, renaming works fine, you likely are using it a) without being connected to the Astra medium, or b) are not exiting properly or c) actually crashing when you try to exit.
Rename a contact and immediately log out of Astra and then log back in, see if it sticks.
Those of you crashing with the bubble chat, are you trying to use it with a skin other than Cordonata? It does not work with any other skins yet.
Rogerg2, the dragon issue sounds like something they will have to fix on their end once Astra is final.
mhanley, bugzilla link and username/password is in your invitation email towards the bottom.
December 5th, 2007 at 3:59 am
here’s a fix that worked for me with “bubbles”
go to Message Windows and uncheck “Show a line where I las left the conversation” restart Trillian
since then my Trillian is not crashing anymore
i have problems with “Current song”, it doesn’t change on Yahoo medium tested with winamp and WMP11

wohali & Rob Lowe – There is no IRC plugin for Astra. You need to use the 3.1 version, it works just fine in Astra. Eventually there will be a new IRC plugin made by the user KingIR.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:18 am
New build looks great, no real problems aside from it taking like 4 minutes to fully load & enable the new bubble feature.
December 5th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Diamond – I’m not sure if you saw this one, but thought you might have an answer. I can’t seem to find a way to do it.

…can anyone tell how to disable the auto update feature?
December 5th, 2007 at 10:30 am
soliphant – In response to your message on November 30th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
“Caution when creating a Business card – after I created a card I switched from normal to icon view and then back again – Astra crashed
. Now Astra crashes on startup during login to the Astra Server. I cannot run Astra until this problem is fixed. Bug 4524″
Try this & see if it doesn’t fix your problem. (Example is based on a windows platform.)
Windows Explorer –> c:\ –> Documents & Settings –> “User Name” –> Application Data –> Trillian –> users –> “Astra Profile Name” –> profile_cache –>
Look in the various folders there & preview the .png files until you find the one that has your business card in it. Then delete that folder & try to start up Astra. There may be multiple folders associated with your business card so go through them all.

when can i “send message to all my contact”?
once i right click on a category and get that option nothing else happens.
before it use to crash now nothing shows up.
when is this going to be fix instead of these facelifts?
December 5th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Spoke a little too soon. Bubble feature caused astra to continually crash upon a non-focused incoming message. Bug logged, & feature disabled.
December 5th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
“…can anyone tell how to disable the auto update feature?”
There is an option in the preferences that toggles if the little window pops up to tell you about it. But right now during the alpha, most builds are required and thus will kick you off Astra anyways.
If you are just wanting that box not to come up, you can uncheck it and see if it works (I have no idea). But if you don’t want to update builds every week, you should go back to 3.1.
December 5th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
That is what i saw, i was just curious if you knew of something else. ThanXX
December 6th, 2007 at 1:34 am
Activating the bubble view checkbox causes Trillian to automatically crash (running Windows XP x64 Edition).
December 6th, 2007 at 11:49 am
After activating the bubbles, trillian started locking up/crashing on ‘medium’ length messages. After un-checking the ‘bubbles’, the lockup / crashes still happen. It is mostly when using the yahoo interface, but happens with all of them.
December 8th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
This is the crashiest build I’ve had since I’ve been in the alpha; the bubbles thing is crashing astra, making animated buddy icons stop working, suddenly trill crashed while trying to do anything interface-wise with a message window open, and I can’t add a widget to trillmini without all of astra crashing
December 13th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
I’ve been waiting to be an alpha tester forever. I signed up for alpha testing the first day I found out about the new program like 3 or 4 months ago, then I signed up again, thinking I might have gotten overlooked. I can’t wait for trillianastra, and REALLY want to test it!!!
