Build 68 Double Feature: Voice Calls thru Yahoo! and more Chat Views

As we missed last week’s build, this week we will present not just one, but two new features! Build 68 features a revamped Voice Call backend and frontend, as well as a fully-featured Chat Views system that allows you to use more than bubbles for your chat.
Auto-update should be back on-line this week. Testers should receive automatic notification soon after the publishing of this post.
Voice Calls

If you think the new voice call interface looks simple, this is exactly what we were aiming for! Our goal was to create a streamlined user experience to bring Trillian’s voice functionality into a new age, and much hard work has been done behind the scenes to make things as smooth and as easy-to-use as possible.

To start a Voice Call, simply open a chat window and click “Voice” at the bottom. To accept a Voice Call, a new system tray notifier will pop up and ask for your choice.
As you accept the Voice Call request, Trillian works hard behind the scenes: Connecting to voice servers, initiating audio hardware, and discovering the best path to deliver media between you and the remote end; while this occurs, Trillian plays sounds and hypnotic animations to keep you informed that everything is proceeding smoothly.
Once connected, the volume meter will glow as voices are sent back and forth. Classy volume controls resemble a high-end stereo, while crisp and bassy ringtones loop as your call is being made. (During development, the ringtones made our office sound so busy it’s like the tradefloor of a mega corporation!) Additionally, pulsing animation signifies an ongoing conversation, while the timer tells you how long the call has been active.
Note: Voice Calls are currently available only through Yahoo! when communicating to a compatible Trillian Astra or Yahoo! Messenger client. As voice and video are the last major milestone for us before we tie things up and head into beta, we’ll be working next to add as many other protocols as possible (and adding video support where applicable).
Note: The focus of Build 68 is on call connection, not call quality. You may notice some lag times in your voice calls, but we’ll be fixing that in a future build. For now, please ensure that you are able to establish calls in as many environments as possible and let us know through Bugzilla as you encounter difficulties or bugs in this process.
Chat Views

Meanwhile, the user interface team has made further updates to Chat Views. Previously, Bubble View brought fun back to function with chat bubbles that resemble comic strips. In Build 68, we’ve introduced Chat Views Preferences, which allows you to choose between different views.
More views will be added in the future, and skinners are welcome to imagine alternative Chat Views for Trillian Astra!

If you want to change the views in a window, the View menu is the place to go. In Trillian Cordonata, the View menu in chat windows was unoccupied until now – you can switch between Chat Views quickly through the View menu!

The feature would not be useful without a few Chat Views to switch between. We are therefore happy to introduce a new view known as the “Playscript View“. It is a souped-up version of the old plain text, shimmering with elegance while still conversative with space usage. Unlike plain text, it also provides all the goodies in Bubble View, such as Relative Timestamps and the ability to combine consecutive messages into one chunk.
Last but not the least, users of the Trillian Cobalt skin receive lots of love as well. All the features mentioned above are available in Build 68, so enjoy the build and have a great weekend!

Woo hoo! Going to try it out!
January 11th, 2008 at 11:48 pm

January 11th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
This is all Kick ASS..
I can’t believe all the cool updates..
Look forward to more, and eventually the final release..
Great work have a good weekend..
Thanks again.
January 11th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Great stuff. Keep it up. Unfortunately I don’t have any Yahoo contacts, so I won’t be a very useful tester for this.
January 11th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
woooooooohoooooooo cant wait to test. :d
January 11th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Any Astra users out there that want to test Voice Chat with me feel free to add me, my astra user is : globex
January 11th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
sweet build!
January 11th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
New features are great and all that.. but shouldn’t the existing ones be fixed/re-added first?
Even text conferencing still isn’t in place.
January 11th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Cool, everything works as advertised, I also noticed that the hover is different showing the contact info to the left of the console..
January 11th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Thanks so much for another great build! Now to get testing
!

Signe: Audio calls were a function of Trillian 3.1, and as such they fit the bill of features that need “re-adding”.
What text conferencing are you referring to? A bug in something or a feature on a particular service we haven’t added, or something else?
January 12th, 2008 at 12:04 am
Awesome! I had just manually updated from 0.65 to 0.67 today, didn’t realize the auto-update was down. Got myself all up to date on the happenings around here. It was good, I was beginning to have problems with .65 that .67 fixed. Then this afternoon my Astra contact goes offline… odd, that doesn’t happen even if other mediums kick me. A couple minutes later I’m notified about .68! Sweet, pushing the update knocked me off for a moment, that will be a fun trigger to look for
Stoked for this next version, things are looking good!
January 12th, 2008 at 12:06 am
did they do this just for yahoo so far ? I do not have any astra contacts so i do not know if it works with astra chat/contacts.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Alas I cannot test voice due to bandwidth, lag (latency), and data transfer issues for lack of a suitable ISP. But, I can finally create and edit walls in my profile editor! With every new build, many bugfixes are made without fanfare or notice – but whittling away at these nagging little problems continues to improve the product. Thank you to Scott, Kevin and everyone else at CS.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:08 am
yeahh.. nice build!! i love trillian astra much much more … yippy!!!
January 12th, 2008 at 12:19 am
2 things.
What was the announcement that was mentioned last update?
And do you guys plan on bringing direct connect into astra?
January 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Hmm…did a completely clean install and I cant see the voice call button at all
-AC3
January 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am
And yes before any1 jumps on me I am using yahoo and the other person is on astra as well

January 12th, 2008 at 12:45 am
NVM I see it after restarting!
January 12th, 2008 at 12:47 am
“Text Conferencing,” though I have never heard it called that, is a feature I sorely miss, too. It is the ability to invite other contact(s) into the same IM session; all participating contacts receive all text entered by any contact.
This is something I regularly use for “meetings” with my IT team with distributed members in California, Colorado, and Nebraska. I used to be in charge of inviting everyone into the conversation; Now that I am testing Astra, I have to ask one of the other participants to invite me!
So, the ability to participate in a “Text Conference” does work in most recent Astra builds, but there is no way to initiate a conference by inviting other contacts.
Also, I have only used this feature over MSN, so I don’t know whether it also applies to other connections.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:50 am
…and look at that. I was typing while I was downloading the update, and just like magic there’s a CONFERENCE button on my new chat window!
January 12th, 2008 at 12:51 am
very pleased to have finally have something with voice, was definitely worth the wait. I’m sure voice and video for other protocols are on the way and will be looking forward to those in the coming weeks.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:52 am
after testing voice chat for a while i must say the audio quality is very good. only issue i notice so far is an echo of my own voice and at times i can hear an echo of the person/people i am having a conversation with, as well as the person i talk with hears me perfectly then hears the same thing faintly for a second time. All in all good job on the build thanx C.S.
January 12th, 2008 at 1:35 am
Hey all I just updated to the new version having some issues with the playscript view when ever i open the program and start a chat or begin a chat the test that is first typed appears like
USERNAME: H
E
Y
after i resize the window it will reset back to normal format anyone else have this issue ?
January 12th, 2008 at 1:38 am
Thanks so much for this mini-A/V gift! I tested it out and it works great (sort of, most of the time, but oh well, it’s still an alpha)! This will come in handy. Thanks for the playscript – I love theatre – love those surprise goodies.
And most of all, I’m not sure when you fixed this, but thanks for the MSN/Hotmail My Mail fix! I clicked View Inbox and saw…my inbox! Surprise!
January 12th, 2008 at 1:49 am
swm, how about simply entering a chat room on AIM?? gochat: links don’t work. There is no way to create a chat room. On Trillian 3.x the only way I could do it was to invite myself to a room, but that is not even possible in Astra. The ONLY way I can get in is to have someone else invite me. That seems slightly important to me, and there are bug reports in Bugzilla on it.
And, this says the features work for Cobalt…. but under Chat Views I still only have “simple”, and I don’t have a voice call button either. If you don’t use the skin that Trillian wants you to use, you are just SOL.
I am glad new features are being added, but I m beginning to get PISSED that the core, basic functionality of a major IM client like AIM is still missing, and that I have to use big, space consuming and busy skins if I want to see all of the functionality that *is* there — yet there is talk of being close to going to Beta.
January 12th, 2008 at 2:24 am
@ HogCall
…don’t reclaim here ! Just the old theme – WHY does it is called beta->>>TEST
January 12th, 2008 at 2:44 am
@ Assassin1020
I was having the same issue. i actually lost those features (bubble view, playscript) when i decided to add a weather widget to my contact list, so i uninstalled astra and reinstalled it. It seems to have solved the problem (so far) with the bubble view and playscript disappearing situation as well as the echo i was hearing when using voice in yahoo.
January 12th, 2008 at 2:47 am
HogCall I definitely hear you about core features of IM mediums missing. My understanding is that alpha strives to put in all the features, and beta strives to iron out the kinks. Guess we just gotta wait more. In the mean while its really great to see something big like audio come out

January 12th, 2008 at 3:51 am
Is there any news on when the “send a message to all” option is activated again? This is one of the things that let me decide to step over to Trillian. Too bad this option is still not working, under ICQ and jabber.
January 12th, 2008 at 3:55 am
For whoever worked on the dealing with the “Bubble tips” or whatever they are… (when you put your mouse over a contact, the little side menu pops up with their “stuff”) I have been having SOOO many problems since they came out with them just staying up after i have left the Astra window. Now they are pretty much fixed…. THANK YOU. (pretty much in that I have only encountered it once since it upgraded, and i can’t seem to recreate it, thus i have NO IDEA how it happens) Anyways you guys are doign GREAT and i LOVE Astra SOOOOOO much.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:13 am
o yes! Please forget the COBALT skin! No one uses it because it is so ugly and odd. Yeah! Please work _only_ on the web2.0, candy, kiddy skin CORDONATA!
THAT WAS IRONY! I hate it! Where is the equality?!
This build SUX!
January 12th, 2008 at 4:19 am
HogCall: Don’t jump to conclusions and be ‘pissed’, it’s not nice to those who spent days and nights to work for you. Lots of efforts were made in this build to make sure everything works in Cobalt. You changed skins, try restart your Trillian to see other Chat Views. It’s a bug.

January 12th, 2008 at 6:47 am
Hey guys. Another fantastic Build. PlayScript looks fantastic. For me the Widgets work a lot better now… You already had time to add small but great things like the reconnect button inside a message window. Great Work. I’m looking forward to next friday…Thanks a lot!
January 12th, 2008 at 8:57 am
[...] We have a new Trillian Astra build this week, and thankfully this one will auto update. Build 68 features a full revamped to the [Yahoo] Voice Call system, and improved chat views. These features should be available in both the Cobalt and Cordonata skins. For more information on the changes, check out the developers blog. [...]
January 12th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Im proud of you all giving decent comments this week!
January 12th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Hey all, great release with all the beautiful views. I just have a minor concern. I am unable to get the “drawing” feature in any of my MSN windows. A few minutes into the conversation, the draw button comes up but doesn’t respond to anything. I cannot send drawings. Is this just a temporary thing or is this really a bug?
January 12th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Nice nice, still open windows explorer when clicking on My Mail though.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
@elcraxoenormo:
that was sarcasm, not irony. A great writer would know.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
elcraxoenormo… Maybe you should restart Astra so the options show up in Cobalt instead of writing such immature blog posts.
January 12th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Great build once again, CS. Just noticed one feature that got broken in this build and its the message notification that you get when the someone else sends you a message while the chat windows is out of focus (perhaps using the another program in between chatting). When a long message is received, the notification actually goes off the bottom of the screen instead of going more vertical like it used to in the previous builds. Wondering if this bug has already been reported, if not, can someone do so? TIA
January 12th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I keep seeing in the comments that people update but don’t get the new features added into the program. I’m finding that happens to myself as well. The best thing you can do when that happens is to uninstall trillian astra, then download the install, and upgrade manually. Hope that helps a few of you out.
January 12th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
When are more testers allowed in?
January 12th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
SiAoTkAin, all the things in the blog so far just require a restart of Trillian to get the features to show up. There is a bug in switching skins that causes it.
WinsontGFX, the testing group is currently large enough. Beta should happen once A/V is finished (more than likely) so then a larger group will be utilized.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Yeah, the comments are so nice this week. (After last week especially, lol) Thanks a lot to everyone for your support!!
January 12th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Contact pop up/pop over stickness gone. THANKS.
Google and Hotmail/MSN broken, will not connect. (7 accounts affected)
If anyone wants to test audio feature, find me @ astra: user001 or yahoo: arandomdestiny
January 12th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
i’ve seen more stable builds… anyway… i love the playscript view!
the new stuff is worth of all that re-launching fun…
(…cannot test the audio feature properly yet till i get back to my place and to my headset… but i can’t wait to try!!)
January 12th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
user001, what error codes do you get on GoogleTalk / MSN ?
January 12th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
uninstalled/reinstalled all accounts are working again. this build responds much more quickly on my system. previous builds are ssslllloooowwww. Well maybe not that slow, but the click/response time was in seconds. Now it’s almost instant. Tried voice with myself (lol) crashed astra. I’ll wait to test. ; )
Side Note:
I’m curious…how many accounts does everyone use/link in trillian?
Me:
Yahoo: 4
MSN/Live: 5
AIM/AOL: 4
Google: 3
Myspace: 1
Astra: 1
January 12th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
If anyone wants to test the Yahoo! Voice calls with yours truly, add me. Astra name: politicslovr / Y!: ladypolitik
January 13th, 2008 at 1:46 am
Yahoo: 0
MSN: 343
AIM: 23
Google: 10
MySpace: 0
Astra: 0
January 13th, 2008 at 1:51 am
I use:-
Google:1
MSN:2
Astra:1
Sometimes
AIM:1
IRC:1
And rarely
Yahoo:1 (Yahoo sucks, moreover it doesn’t allow myname@mydomain.com)
January 13th, 2008 at 1:55 am
globex,
WTF MSN: 343 ? R U JOKING?
January 13th, 2008 at 2:00 am
globex, how do you use 0 astra accounts? Are you even a legit tester?
January 13th, 2008 at 3:31 am
Oh sorry, I thought you meant contacts. haha.
In that case, 1 each.
January 13th, 2008 at 6:30 am
haha….. did anyone notice that msn winks can now be viewed with astra. Never use to work for me previous to this build.
January 13th, 2008 at 9:59 am
@smw: Text conferencing – AIM, Yahoo, Jabber conferencing. Multiple people, one ‘room’. It has been a feature in all versions of Trillian, and it still doesn’t exist. I’ve been told repeatedly that “it’s all there, there’s just no UI”. That’s been the story for the last 33+ builds that I’ve been on the alpha. It’s core functionality, that is claimed to be complete, but still isn’t hooked up.
It’s not just one service that’s effected, it’s many (if not most).
Every time I need to use a conference I need to either fire up 3.1 (which involves shutting down Astra, doing a lot of folder renaming, etc.) or simply use Pidgin, which I installed solely for that purpose.
Specifically in reference to Jabber, however, there is at least one crashing bug outstanding which has been ignored for many builds, and some that are fixed and still not released that are on the same plate.
January 13th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Why do you need to rename folders to use 3.1? Why not just have both installed in a way that they can both be open at once?
January 13th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Glitch with auto responses. ppl keep informing me that when they receive an auto response from me, it shows a HTML type of code along with what i have selected as an auto response. Has anyone else been told of same thing ?
example: ZHTML > ZBODY BGCOLOR = ” # ffffff ” > Away
(hope the code is visible)
January 13th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Signe:
It looks like you don’t know how to create a Conference, and then irreverently jumps to a conclusion that the feature does not exist.
Here are the steps that can help you:
Open any AIM, MSN, Yahoo chat window of one of the contacts you want to conference with, then click the button “Conference” at the bottom. If your window is not wide enough, you may not see the word in the button, and it is represented by an icon with 3 chat bubbles. You can then invite more people into your conference.
If there are any bugs in Conferences or alternative methods you think how Conferences should be inititated, those are called Bugs or Feature Requests, not a “core functionality that is not re-added”. Feel free to report them in Bugzilla, or the easier Astra Bug forums, in case you have no idea how to use the former.
agnostic-stigmata:
Those are MSN Custom Emoticons, not Winks. It was implemented a couple builds ago.
Yup.
January 13th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
The timestamps in Playscript block the convo if it is long enough lol
January 13th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
I continue thinking that lacks the inverse list of the msn
January 14th, 2008 at 9:36 am
how long before we see a beta of this? I am so frustrated on windows that I am looking at moving to Adium for MAC.
January 14th, 2008 at 10:36 am
The new build is nice but the popup for each user when you hover over their contact name contains no more information than what I can get looking at the contact list. It is also slightly off by a few pixels from the edge of the contact list. The more important features of being able to control the display name of the contacts should be focused on more than menial UI enhancements. Functionality First!
January 14th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Display name of the contacts has worked for 20+ builds. If you have issues with it, file a bugzilla bug.
And ddayman, I am sorry that windows is frustrating you, but this client is not ready for beta yet. Soon though
January 14th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
hehehe… and I was amazed to see ANY double-digits in the number of IM accounts people had!
January 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Does anyone know how to turn off the popup info when you hover over a contact? It’s annoying as hell.
January 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
====================BUG======================
I’m too lazy to go to bugzilla, moreover this is not a serious issue so here it is:-
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3558/bugwl7.png
This is what I get when I click in new message pop window (Notification like in new mail, I’ve it turned on) and IM is already disconnected. Here if you Reconnect and “Add” Contact and Block buttons are overlapping. “Add” Contact and Block buttons should have been hidden.
January 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
And by the way the contact is already in my contact list (since years), I think it is considering that it doesn’t exist because IM network is already disconnected and there no more contact list alive.
January 14th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
I like the new contact pop up. The word wrap on the titles is a little odd though…
Capabilitie
s
Also, this feature doesn’t work in Tile view with MetaContacts. Well, you see the contact info on the MetaContact, but you can’t see it on the individual services.
January 14th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
That’s great that you want to report that, and maybe is already in bugzilla, but maybe it isn’t. Don’t be lazy, go report it!
January 14th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Well I’ve had to go back to using Mesenger Live as the last build for me will not login to MSN.
- I’ve tried completely reinstalling / deleting the user data
- Hacking in an older MSN.DLL
All to no avail…..
January 14th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
agnostic-stigmata thanks i will give that a try!
January 14th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Is anyone else having issues with group chat in AIM? Since I can’t invite myself to specific chat rooms, I’m reliant upon receiving invites from others. However this build will crash if I accept any chat invitations.
January 15th, 2008 at 4:02 am
i don’t know what happen, do i have to set playscript every time i log in? in the chat views, there’s no preview for “playscript” only bubbles has a preview
January 15th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Pak-Kei Mak: No… still missing from Jabber. Window size has nothing to do with it. Ask Rachel, there’s no UI.
DiamondNRG: Why? Because 3.1 and Astra end up using the same configuration folders and screw each other up. So, yes, they need to be renamed out of the way so that I can ensure both of them remain working.
January 15th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Signe, that does not have to be true.
Move one of the user folders somewhere else and edit the ini files to point to it appropriately. When I kept an install of 3.1 around, I had it installed so that its settings folder was INSIDE the folder for 3.1.
January 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I am also unable to connect to MSN with build 68. but, the long standing crash issue seems to be solved now.
January 15th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Signe:
After all these clarifications I can finally assist you to point out exactly what you wanted that is missing, rather than giving a generalized charge as if nothing had been done to re-add old features. Next time if you post in the blog, it would be helpful to post that precise request to express your anguish, or, use Bugzilla because that’s how all bugs and features are tracked and where your voice can really be heard.
January 16th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Pak-Kei Mak Says:
Those are MSN Custom Emoticons, not Winks. It was implemented a couple builds ago.
Yup.
can those be added ? Or only viewed ?
January 16th, 2008 at 2:49 am
agnostic-stigmata:
No, not yet. Only viewing for now.
January 16th, 2008 at 10:55 am
@Signe – I would have to agree with DiamondNRG on this one. Just create two folders, one for Trill Astra, & one for Trill 3.1 then just instal each program respectively into the appropriate folder.
I have not had a problem yet with the two versions clashing.
January 16th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
wow cant wait to test.
January 16th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
@nayss
I understand it is an Alpha release (Not Beta as you stated). I have posted my issues to Bugzilla, and I believe I have patiently been waiting for some of these things to come about. But, 1) Entering a chat room should be one of the most basic functionalities of an IM client, do you not agree? And 2), they are now talking about moving to Beta, which typicall means they are satisfied with the core functionality as it exists.
@Pak-Kei Mak
It’s “not nice”? You are right though, they work for me, as the paying customer. I have converted people to Trillian in the past, and assuming I keep using it, will in the future as well. I think complaniing about a feature that should have been added on day 1 as they get ready to transition from Alpha to Beta has merit.
All the other stuff is eye candy. I don’t even have most of that available, and if I did, a lot of it would be turned off as I like the client to be as minimal and straight forward as possible. All I really want it the CORE functionality to exist.
Pak-Kei Mak writes: Open any AIM, MSN, Yahoo chat window of one of the contacts you want to conference with, then click the button “Conference” at the bottom.
I have 2 22″ WS monitors. I have opened it all the way accross both, and still no word for “Conference”. (And I assume that this is different than chat rooms, true?)
Pak-Kei Mak writes: If there are any bugs in Conferences or alternative methods you think how Conferences should be inititated, those are called Bugs or Feature Requests, not a “core functionality that is not re-added”.
Being able to enter a chat room without someone inviting you is not core functionality? That is like saying you can IM a person, you just can’t initiate it!
@AngelSword
That was the point of my earlier post, as well as this one. No, it is only possible to enter an AIM chat room if someone invites you.
January 16th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
In preferences, the “Expand metacontacts when the mouse cursor goes over them” toggle option………..DOES NOT WORK, this feature is driving me nuts
January 16th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
cbain73, are you using Tile mode? It can not work in Tile mode. You have to click them once. That feature was designed for Simple and List.
Hogcall, your completely out of line though, and the reason is the fact that AIM chats did work, they just recently broke again, which means its a bug, bugs get fixed, even in beta. So really just relax. And no chat rooms are not part of the DIEHARD CORE of IM functionality, it is fluff just like the stuff we use that you don’t. I don’t like chatting with rooms full of 40 year old guys pretending to be 15 year old girls, but maybe you do… good for you, but its fluff.
January 16th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
I dont want to click them once…I just dont want to see them…they are annoying….the pop-ups im talking about
January 16th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
You are talking about infocards, not metaconacts?!?!
There is not an option to disable those. They are the new form of tooltips for the Cordonata skin.
Expanding MetaContacts has absolutely nothing to do with that. If you want to know what that means, you should read the feature guide for Trillian 3.

@HogCall: I’m well aware of that. But it seems that this build crashes when I accept a chat invitation.

just wondering.. is there an issue with the AIM service? I’m not quite sure whats happening, might just be my own computer, but AIM keeps disconnecting. I think its been happening since build 68, and its not like a lost internet disconnect, because people recieve messages up til lthe moment when trillian detects the disconnect, unlike before, when you could send a few messages before you even realized you were offline. It just.. then proceeds to reconnect in 30 seconds. Ive had this happen to me.. at least 30 times this week… >.> (just my issue or is anyone else getting this? i checked bugtracker but didnt see anything like it)

HogCall:
As a note, you don’t pay for the alpha. You can decide whether to pay for it or not, only when the product is released in the end. Then, they will work for you – but even in that sense, they are the technical support included in the package, not the developers.
Your support is well appreciated, but that does not translate into your requests being the very first priority, a priority higher than those whose had given a lot of support as well. If your support is not appreciated, how would you get into the alpha team – and so that you can actively complain about what you are missing?
Second, the blog comments are, unfortunately, not the best channel to complain. The door is wide open for you to come in and report the bugs in Bugzilla. There are a few people who had reported similar bugs, go ahead and add your details:
http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=conference
If you stretched your window all the way through with two hands and still can’t see the button, I believe that you are either using an outdated build, or the other user is not using a client that is compatible with Conference. Conference button is here everywhere even for an AIM Mobile contact, only except Astra and Jabber contacts.

This is actually the first time I’ve bothered to read the comments as I’m not an alpha tester.and now I’ve got a question Are Pak-Kei Mak and DiamondNRG actually members of Cerulean Studios? Because I’ve been patiently waiting and waiting etc for this product to get out the door coming in and checking every now and again and getting excited about the product again and waiting some more. BUT if these guys work for the company then I’m feeling very put off about buying the product. Pak-Kei Mak being the biggest offender of the two sure you have a “difficult” and unhappy customer on your hands but so far I think his responses have been incredibly unprofessional. Although DiamondNRG’s comments about the use of AIM chats to a potential customer would have to be one of the more outrageous things I’ve seen posted to a corporate blog that hasn’t been immediately deleted.
So basically my esteem for the product and specifically the company that makes it has been shaken by the actions of people who according to their sites do at least have some sort of work in the graphical development of Trillian.
If this is even a hint of the experience I may have with support if I actually buy the product (something I have been waiting happily to do) then I’ve swiftly lost a lot of my perceived value in the purchase. Now instead of waiting patiently I think I’m going to try out some of the competition.

@Diamond – Cheers! I LOLed at the
“I don’t like chatting with rooms full of 40 year old guys pretending to be 15 year old girls, but maybe you do… good for you, but its fluff.”
Three cheers for fluff!
& its great with peanut butter too!

I still have problems with MSN, the draw feature is now gone and so is the option to send a file.
January 17th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
I saw earlier that someone had posted if there was a way to turn off the hover event for trillian contact list. I have not seen a reply. I to find this very annoying and if I move my mouse off to quick, which is often, the pop-up window does not go away. It would be nice to have this as a checkbox option to be on or off.
Thanks!!!!

Spideycoop, these are the replacements for tooltips, you can not turn them off.
The bugs with them not dissapearing will be fixed, plus they are going to add a delay so they don’t pop up so fast.

ROFLMAO…i would add more letters if someone can tell me whats a way of laughing harder than that online. I just read some noobie say that chatrooms arent a DIEHARD CORE function of instant messaging programs- they must not know what an instant messaging program is for. I guess i dont know why aim, yahoo, and msn have chatroom features then- and built into their messengers, idk.
Not all chatrooms are filled with 40 year old virgins, maybe just the ones you go into? A lot of us have fun online, chatting with friends, family, and yeah- even meet people online…yeah…wow…i never knew that was possible. If the person who made that incoherently ambiguous works for Trillian blogs in any way they need to re-educate themselves on what an instant messenger is for and i agree that the basic aim chat room functionality should be brought back.
That’s like saying who uses myspace to talk to people? that’s not a DIEHARD CORE reason to use the site… Yet, myspace is now built right into Trillian. So *raises hand in favor of chat room functionality returning*

Hold on here pal… I said it and I am not a noobie.
When I said it wasn’t a diehard core feature I didn’t say it was complete fluff either. Meaning, the program is still alpha, some parts of “chatrooms” aren’t in yet. I never said they shouldn’t be.
Careful with jumping the gun there Pharaoh
And the 40 year old guys thing was a joke … ya know those funny things people write to make other people laugh…

agnostic, yes this is a current bug. It is in bugzilla.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Thanx DiamondNRG i wanted to make sure it wasnt just me or something i did and didnt know. I appreciate the response.
January 17th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
I am assuming the draw and file send features in MSN were disabled for further development as they did not appear after a clean reinstallation.
January 18th, 2008 at 1:05 am
pnkrkrgeo, I believe you are correct, they were there and working for a while, then they were taken back out, likely due to changes being made.

@Soul of the Pharaoh – If you really want to talk about “core” features of an IM client, then you need to go back to the start of IMs & the name itself. Instant Message, is just a messaging client, not a chat room. Back in the good old days the IMs & the chat rooms were two different entities. You would use either a browser or stand alone client to gain access to these chat rooms. If you really want to go back, before chat rooms were what they are now, you had BBSs, now for those babies out there, that is a Bulletin Board System. With the addition of IMs, you did not have to be in the chat room to PM a friend, you could just IM them & skip the chat room. Later on down the road you had the merging of the two clients. So if you want to talk about the “core” features, they would be any that were among the first versions of the IM clients.
So while chat room access may be a highly desired feature, does that make it a “core” feature of an IM client?
Now as for calling someone a noob, one would have to be a noob here on these forums to try & say that DiamondNRG was a noob. If one was to read any of these threads, one would quickly see that DiamondNRG is all over the place. Now if one was to read a little further, one might come to the conclusion that DiamondNRG also seems to know a bit about this.
As for the 40 year old posing as 15 year olds not being in the chat rooms that you go to. Then i would like to know what chat rooms those are. Now i will give you, that there may not be any 40 year old posers in the over the hill rooms. But they don’t really count do they? Not only are chat rooms infested with the posers, but you also have all the porn bots, & i would like to know of one chat room that doesn’t have them.

slipupunder: Sorry that you think what I said is offensive. I was asking questions to clarify their complaint, and directing them to the right steps or sites to solve their issues. I disagree with the attitude of certain comments, but I did not intend to offend. I love users, and I do not dote by agreeing with everything.
On the other hand, personally I think this blog is much more receptive than the others you will find. It allows commenting, developers do read your comments, and even respond to them honestly. Go figure.
January 18th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
slipupunder: I also never meant to offend your esteem. Sometimes my patience wears thin with silly comments/complaints. I would do my best to help you with any support needs just as I do everyone else.
January 18th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Sorry BryanX9X,
I refused to read the rest of your comment after the first two lines suggested you were going to send me on a wild history lesson on instant messaging. I think i’ll leave the teaching to my college professors and people who are credible on what they are talking about, so excuse me if you said something interesting and I, ha, failed to notice.
Anyway, if you ever do have anything sarcastic or dumb you want me to read, you can find me in chatrooms at anytime…if….trillian…ever gets around to adding them….
January 18th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Sorry DiamondNRG,
If I offended you in any way. I guess I don’t know what a joke was. I thought it was something FUNNY worth LAUGHING at. But I guess i was wrong and took it the wrong way.
Best Regards.

Soul, you are fine, I wasn’t making that reply to you.
