Build 70: MSN Voice Calls, 100 Bug Fixes!

Build 70 is now available. Pick up your computer headset and start calling your dearest friends… for bug hunting! Over 100 bugs were fixed in Build 70, and we’ve introduced MSN voice calls as well. As with Yahoo voice calls, you may notice delays and call lag with MSN calls; we are aware of this issue and will be addressing it once we finish our audio implementations across the board. For now, please ensure that calls are connecting successfully. Enjoy the build!

Way back when, a year ago, when I got accepted into the alpha, part of the e-mail stated (I still have it):
“In order to ensure you’re able to test the build with your friends, you will all be receiving “invites” to send out to a fixed number of your friends and family in the coming weeks.”
Well, it’s been 53 weeks, and I’ve still yet to see these invites materialize. I’ve got friends who are curious to see how Trillian Astra, that I keep raving about, is shaping up.

Wow. Kevin seems to have been a busy little bee this week.
No problems so far.

January 25th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Looks good but for me at least still no MSN Messenger connection. It just sits there with a ‘Connect’ button that if pressd does nothing
January 25th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Ever since about build 61 NONE of my widgets or preferences will stick. I can make a change but the next time I restart my laptop it resets to the defaults .
and yes invites would be cool
January 25th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
seems good this build…much faster…even updates contact pix…but still a prob with the offline status on msn…keeps setting back online. but all in all…after 10 minutes of use…seems good
January 25th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Yay! Great job with the bug fixes guys!
January 25th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I’m very impressed already. System startup was much quicker. And the annoying stale helper context menus that display on mouseover now HAS CORRECT EVENT BUBBLING on mouse exit. I’m impressed. GOOD WORK GUYS! Better user experience within the first 3 minutes of usage! — A

70 is messing up my contacts BIG TIME. Its putting them all into a AIM Bots group and duplicating them.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
I recently applied to try out the Alpha, I heard from a friend when he purchased trillian pro he was given an alpha invite, if this is true, could you verify? I would love to purchase trillian pro if it got me the alpha of astra, I’ve held back on purchasing it because I was waiting eagerly for astra. Thanks a billion if anyone can help me.

Crash on startup – bug 4777
January 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Hopefully this fixes the random crashes I’ve been getting since build 68. Other than that, nothing else is wrong for me. Just waiting for A/V for AIM and direct connect.

hahnarama…AIM works fine here…what bout clean install of trillian?
Ya tried that and I am still getting the same error. I had to manually delete the group.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Wow, you had me all giddy with the 100 bug fixes, but when i try to start a chat, its crashing.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Regarding the crashing that I mentioned in my previous post, it seems to only happen the instant I start a chat with gmail contact. The all the other ones (yahoo, aim, msn) are working fine, just gmail got messed up in this build.
January 25th, 2008 at 10:28 pm

January 26th, 2008 at 1:35 am

When will global proxy server settings be available? I have a lot of connections under my identity and depending where I am working, I may need to use or not use my proxy server. Currently, I have to go into the settings of each connection and change the settings…
Keep up the good work -
Thanks!

Earlier in the blog hahnarama posted a message saying their widgets do not stay. Mine also do not come back on restart and do not show in the list under preferences. Is this a known issue and are there any tips for trying to correct this on my end. Thanks
January 28th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Auto download did not execute, but a manual DL & Install worked fine.
January 28th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Spideycoop & hahnarama – Try cleaning out your widget files & starting from scratch.
Local HD (c:\) -> Documents &Settings -> Your User Name -> Application Data -> Trillian -> Users -> Your Astra User Name -> profile_cache
All of those folders should be your widget files. Exit Trillian, delete them & restart Trillian & try again. Seeif that does not fix your problem.

Is there a plan to have an official SIP plugin?
January 28th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Count me as another who’s getting an insta-fatal when I try to send or receive GTalk messages. Just opening up the contact window of an offline GTalk contact was enough to send me crashing and burning to the desktop. Have now disabled GTalk for the short term.
January 28th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Anyone having trouble with the LCS plugin? Ever since the update, trillian crashes when I attempt to open an LCS window.
January 28th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
tepope, it is directly related to bubble view. In order to use LCS/SIP/MySpace/GoogleTalk plugins right now you need to turn it back to simple view. The bug has been reported already though
drabisan, no, there is not.
January 28th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
dgackey, you can simply switch back to “simple” view instead of using bubble chat until they fix that.
January 29th, 2008 at 11:43 am
So far no real function issues, but I am probably not the user that most others are! However, I did notice a visual on the connection status icons. They are displaying as 3/4 of a circle instead of complete.
January 29th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
I had the same issue with crashes when trying to use gtalk. Switching to simple view does fix it. I can’t wait to get back to bubble view though. =\

January 30th, 2008 at 8:36 am
Anyone else have MSN contacts contact you and have Astra crash? I can’t figure it out.. they can type anything and it won’t crash then they can paste what they sent me before it crashed and it will crash again.. They then send me that same text in a WLM window and there is Nothing obvious about what they sent that would cause it to crash. Hasn’t happened till this build.
January 30th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Speedboy, go to the forums, go to Astra Chat forum, it is the 1st thread.

I’ve had problems with build 70 since the upgrade. all off my preferences won’t stick. eg. icons, themes, chat window preferences etc. and it keeps bringing up the log in windows…
January 31st, 2008 at 10:14 am
Lawrence, I replied to one of your posts in the forums about this. You’re all over trying to get help!

“March 19th, 2010:
Build 237 out now!
We assume to get to public beta stadium in a few months, stay tuned!”
I remember summer 2006 when the first news about a new trillian were out, but will there ever be a final version…? Or will Trillian Alpha be released with Duke Forever?

Hey I do have some problems again, for some reason when my buddies on MSN go invisible, my messages fail to be delivered with the error “Offline message is currently unavailiable. Messages could not be delivered to the following users:”. Bug or isolated error for me?
February 1st, 2008 at 12:34 am
okay… so now i am having random crashes. primarily when i open up a google contact to IM them.
February 1st, 2008 at 1:31 am
Krytos, it helps to search the forums. In the current build, GoogleTalk/MySpace/SIP/LCS are all not able to function with bubble view. You will need to use simple chat view until this is fixed. It is also mentioned about 3 times already in this week’s blog comments.
February 1st, 2008 at 9:56 am
@pnkrkrge092 – When a user goes “invisible” it then means that they show up as offline. Last i checked MSN does not allow you to send a message to an offline user. So slap your buddies & tell them to stop going “invisible”, or use one of the other messaging clients that does allow you to leave a message for an offline user on the server.
February 1st, 2008 at 11:27 am
Bryan, but MSN supports offline messaging, so it *SHOULD* work … the fact that it does sometimes and not others is Trillian’s fault as its messaging to offline MSN contacts seems very buggy, if that worked, I dont think there would be an issue. No matter what it should still give you the warning they are offline and messages might not be received until they log back in, etc. etc. but it *SHOULD* work.
