Build 75 has landed, showcasing over four weeks of work! As it was necessary to upgrade both the Trillian client and Astra server at the same to enable the video chat feature, many other features have been worked on simultaneously. Auto-update is off again this week; please download the new build manually. You will no longer be able to use older builds to connect to the Astra network.
Video and Audio Chat through the Astra service

Video chat is the holy grail of instant messengers, and is one of the things that sets Trillian apart from many other messengers in its class. Building upon our experiences developing Trillian 3.x, Trillian Astra has a series of new innovations that encourage users to chat with video.
High quality video
Trillian Astra currently utilizes H.263 compression for your video streams. While it will look great with a fast internet connection, Trillian will also intelligently optimize the video stream for a slower connection. We are currently evaluating some newer-generation codecs (H.264, etc) for possible inclusion in a future build. |
Always the right layout
Whether you have a tall window or a wide window, Trillian will always resize and position the videos for the most efficient use of space. The videos will elegantly switch between side-by-side view, picture-in-picture view and top-and-bottom view. |
Life is a movie
Unlike most messengers that bound your video in tight boxes, Trillian lays out your video chat as if it were a screen from a movie or TV interview – text chat appears at the bottom like movie subtitles, while names are displayed like titles of news correspondents. |
Well informed
Call connection statuses in Trillian Astra are highly improved. You are now able to tell exactly when a connection is initiated, accepted or disconnected. Simple diagnostic messages will helpfully guide you through connection troubles. |
Instant-on
See yourself in preview mode right away once you click the video chat button; your friend will see you on their screen once they accept your invitation. |
Good old features
Take photos of great moments in the video chat and spice things up with real-time video filters. |
For those who are too shy for real-time video chat, don’t forget our Video Capture feature! This feature allows you to conveniently take a picture from your computer webcam and send it to your friends right away.
Better Diagnostics when Disconnected

As a multi-protocol instant messenger, Trillian Astra features improved notifications to help diagnose connection problems for each individual IM account.
Partially Online status
Explanations are now provided when you are partially online. A convenient “Reconnect” button allows you to fix the problem right away. |
Connect right from the menu
You can now connect closed connections right from the connections bar menu. The menu lists all the connections you have under the chosen IM service. |
Offline contacts
Better notifications are now displayed when you are attempting to message an offline contact. |
Finalized Splash Screen

As we are moving towards finalizing Trillian Astra for beta-testing, we have now updated the graphics and UI for the login screen, one of the very first screens we announced in the beginning of our alpha test!
Vista Aero support
Users of Windows Vista will enjoy a login screen in full glassy glory, accompanied by drop-shadowed text.
Cleanup and new graphics
Now the login screen offers a similar experience to the trillian.im web site, by employing the same design style. |
Individual Proxy settings
Each account can have its own proxy settings. Trillian can be configured to use a proxy server of your choice, or to follow the settings in Internet Explorer. |
Easily accessible options
Toolbars now appear when you move your mouse on top of an account, with a design similar to the toolbar for widgets in the Profile Editor. |
We hope you enjoy the build! As usual, new features unleash a new pile of bugs. Please help us squash all the bugs by using all the features! We understand that some of you may be camera-shy, but now is the time to show your face to other alpha testers!

will be video implemented also into icq / msn ?
March 29th, 2008 at 3:52 am
Hey guys, you’re incredible. The pictures look so nice. Downloading now…
March 29th, 2008 at 3:53 am
WOW, you guys rock. thank you very much….Time to test it out.
March 29th, 2008 at 4:03 am
hey, what a great saturday morning… installing!!!
good work guys…
March 29th, 2008 at 4:10 am
One thing i notice already is that Trillian does not remember that i selected it to show login screen while it loads. Every time i select it in preferences then reload astra it no longer is selected in pref and its not showng login screen while loading. On a good note..Astra is finally remebering that i have the weather widget set and also where i have it set on my contact list…..Finally no more having to re-add it or drag it from the bottom of my contact list back to the top. I just want to say one more time……C.S. you out did yourselfs on this build……Thank You very much for build 75.
March 29th, 2008 at 4:18 am
holy …. wow, I was not expecting this much change. All for the better. You rock CS!
March 29th, 2008 at 4:37 am
Very nice update. Glad to see Astra going above and beyond. Quick question tho, every time I try to updated my Astra Profile, it won’t update. :\ Any clue as to why? Running build 75 on Windows Vista Home Premium.
March 29th, 2008 at 4:59 am
looks awesome to me guys well done!
March 29th, 2008 at 5:12 am
I don’t think you out did yourselves. You can never out do yourselves with a build. I simply think you gave it your all. I’m impressed guys. Looks fantastic. However, #7 looks oddly familiar to the functionality that Pidgin already has when services are disconnected. So the way that you make it sound all original is just flat out wrong.
Now just work on getting memory usage down and add some more social service plug-ins like digsby is doing and you’ll be not-only back in the social game full swing, but leading the pack since you have native video!
My only honest complaint is the fact that I haven’t heard hardly anything about Cerulean Studios supporting the Unix/Linux platform. You’re obviously going out of your way for the windows users and for obviously good reasons…the mac users are understandable, but to have ignored Unix/Linux this long is just said. I don’t think you realize how ready we unix users are to ditch slow software like Pidgin in favor of promising software like Trillian. I mean, distros like Ubuntu are gaining ground today! It’d be ignorant to ignore Unix/Linux users any longer. And I also don’t find it worth it to use a specific platform just to use a certain kind of software. I mean, if the company wants to be anything at all then they need to spread out! Are Opera or Mozilla limiting to one or two platforms!? No, and neither is Mac by releasing several applications for windows now. I mean, Nero offers a burning rom app for linux now. Why can’t everyone get over the “Windows and Mac are the only operating systems on the planet” mood and see the crowd that you’re leaving out. You don’t even realize that the “geeky” crowd who is using Unix/Linux is going to love your software on their platform (and not through Wine or any other emulation or virtual system). You know that *nix users are going to use Trillian cause we’re so fed up with Pidgin and other applications that update 3 times a year to patch minor spelling flaws. Rant over. I”m just tired of seeing Trillian progress that is for the most part dependent on platforms when it could reach a whole new level if it were to ever touch a *nix machine natively.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:14 am
Lots of features indeed… but i just started it and it messed up my complete contactlist… contacts out of their groups, metacontacts ruined etc…
March 29th, 2008 at 5:16 am
First problem: LCS plugin, version 11 it’s not working anymore.
I upgrade it to version 11 and it appears ok but I had problems with it on release 74.
I’ll see…
March 29th, 2008 at 5:21 am
Yeah, great!! Thanks guys;)
March 29th, 2008 at 5:28 am
Well, installing over build 74 causes me to not be able to open Trillian anymore, it crashes when loading the MSN plugin… A fresh install worked though (Thank god, I can’t live without messaging… lol)… Kind of strange… I can’t wait to play around with the new features though.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:48 am
Hello,
thanks for a good work!
Unfortunately, you have not updated the language packages again. This is a pity, because it is the state from 3 weeks ago and it many have improved certainly already in the language packages something. Since only in use application can sometimes see whether the provided text suits.
Please updates the language packages.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:52 am
wow….great update, downloading now…..
March 29th, 2008 at 6:36 am
how can I download this new build? it´s so wonderfull but probably i am not able to download it and install. Could you somebody please help me? Thx
March 29th, 2008 at 7:04 am
where can I get this Build? auto-update does not find any new Build
March 29th, 2008 at 7:29 am
What a pity that I don’t have a webcam
March 29th, 2008 at 7:44 am
Okay, it looks really good – and I hope I’m not having a stupid moment, but I can’t seem to get in to download. Every time I log in it gives a database error, even if I type the wrong password… Is anyone else having this issue? Or *am* I having a stupid moment?
March 29th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Wiki. Seriously. Please throw me a bone. For the love. Seriously. Next build? Green underlines return?
March 29th, 2008 at 8:13 am
A great feature would be to be able to record video chat and not only taking pictures…
I know it’s possible with http://www.oovoo.com/ but it’s an other messenger…
It would be amazing if it was possible to record MSN webcam conference through Trillian, useful for people following courses through Messenger, or doing some interview, etc.
Is this feature planned?
March 29th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Trillian Astra does not work properly since Build 75. Everything looks nice, but connections are not saved in my identity. After a Trillian restart, I’m not even able to re-enter a connection (ICQ, MSN, Jabber, …).
Already deleted my whole userdata (Appdata\Roaming\Trillian) and started to re-configure Trillian completely, even this does not work.
March 29th, 2008 at 8:45 am
What a shame that I cannot purchase an internet connection robust enough to handle video. Ahh, the joy of living in the boondocks!
March 29th, 2008 at 9:31 am
1) When will we starting getting “invites” to send out to others? I would really like to run the new video through its paces but I need others I know to have Astra.
2) Feature request now that Video is done. Duplicate the Yahoo IM feature where you can send as SMS message to a cell phone from within the Yahoo IM client.
Great work guys!
March 29th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I’ve lost all connections, and settings like showing the splash does not save. If I try to create a new connection, it doesn’t retain it.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Same problem as Holger – connection list was cleared on install of Build 75. Program will not allow connections to be saved. Enter in all information and hit “connect”, and it goes back to the menu like nothing happened, with no connection, no saving.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:57 am
It appears I too have lost all my connections except Astra and cannot add them back in, though I was able to add an old yahoo ID in. None of my MSN, Google, other Yahoo, AIM or ICQ ones can be added in.
Sounds like quick refresh for the update. Otherwise looks great so far. Keep up the great work
March 29th, 2008 at 10:10 am
To those of you having connection problems, try looking for the individual connection INI files in your Astra profile directory and deleting them (while Trillian is stopped) to see if it helps. We’ll look into this bug and the other reported bugs this week, thanks!
March 29th, 2008 at 10:13 am
yea this seems like a dumb question but how do i update? Every other time it has auto updated so idk what im doing wrong and when i log in it gives me a message that the build is available but then doesn’t take me anywhere i can get it
March 29th, 2008 at 10:20 am
where do i go to download this i’ve never manually updated…
March 29th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Deleting the .ini files fixed the problem for me. I still had to put all the accounts back in one by one, but they’re staying in now so I can chat without an issue.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Seems to be fine so far. But I’m still not able to configure/use my Webcam. :-/
At least its recognized correctly.
But what I would really appreciate to be fixed is the fact that since build 71 (or so) the text editor does not resize automaticaly using the Cobalt Minimal Skin.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Hi,
perhaps i’m stupid but i can’t find where to download the new buld manually.
Where I havo to log in?
March 29th, 2008 at 10:45 am
I can’t even login to download the new build. I get a “error #272″ when I try it. From within Astra it doesn’t see any available updates, but when I start it up I do get the message to upgrade. What’s up ? With all these problems, maybe I should just wait………
March 29th, 2008 at 10:55 am
this build is just a f*ing joke!!!
March 29th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Why is it that so many people have problems downloading the latest builds when auto-update is disabled?!
READ YOUR WELCOME EMAIL PEOPLE!
All the information you need to be able to download the latest build is in the Welcome email you received when you were accepted into the test group.
March 29th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Looks good. Installed without issue that I can see. No problems with connections like other people have reported.
Still not showing the login/splash screen. I check the “Show Login Screen while Loading” option, and it appears saved when I “log” in and out of Astra, but does not save the option when I completely shut down the Trillian application.
Also, the Weather widget is still not working for me, unfortunately (never has for me). I turn it on and it just sits there forever with a spinning wheel.
Anyway, seems to be a good solid build. No crashes so far, which is fantastic in an alpha build (despite what some other bozos are spouting!).
I’ve been doing this stuff a long time, and this is one of the most impressive alpha’s I’ve ever worked with. Keep up the good work, guys, and don’t forget to breathe!!
March 29th, 2008 at 11:24 am
i downloaded new build, but i can’t sign in to any IM
nor all my connection disappeared and i can’t even re-add them
March 29th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Got the same problem as alexus. Astra connection still there and working, but ICQ just disappeared and can not be readded.
OS is Win Vista btw.
Tried to reinstall it w/o uninstalling and with uninstalling. Still doesn’t work.
March 29th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Now, since it Updated from Build 74 to Build 75 ——all my contacts are gone???? now what………. ??? I try to re add them, AIM, Yahoo?? they just don’t show???
March 29th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I’m having the same problem as alexus. All of my contacts are gone and it won’t let me re-add them.
March 29th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Yeah, I have, too…
March 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I’m still having problems modifying my Astra Profile. I can’t change my orientation, although it’s incorrect, as well as any other setting on that part of the profile.
March 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I have vista but I can’t get the aero windows bit to activate at all.
March 29th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I too have lost all the contacts Except IRC, no way to connect, they dont show up at all. Cant add back in any of my services. this is REALLY bad.. with this build i might as well not use it.
PLEASE HELP! — can i revert back to the previous build???
March 29th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Download link from email with login and password from the emal, that used to work, no longer work for me?
March 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Anyone want to test video with me? Add me Astra user: globex
March 29th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I’m having the same problem everyone else is. Upon upgrading to the new version, I’m unable to add/connect to any connections. Soon as I enter my info in and press connect it goes away.
sigh.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
smw – I am having the same problem as Holger. I can add the identities on the initial load. As soon as Astra terminates, I lose the identities. If I delete the ini files, I can add the identities back but as soon as I shut Astra down they are lost and have to repeat the process.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHOSE CONNECTIONS ARENT SAVED INSTALL A CLEAN VERSION OF TRILLIAN.
I had the same problem so I completely deleted my Trillian Astra folder and I also deleted the Trillian folder from inside the Application Data folder.
I reinstalled a clean version and everything works now.
March 29th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
For those of you on Vista delete the ini that pertain to the connection you want to elminate in C:\Users\>\AppData\Roaming\Trillian\users\>
Obviously you need to enter the right info in the >
Once I deleted those I was ok and could add accounts, also is the Yahoo connection gone?
March 29th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
dang above post didnt come out. C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Trillian\users\xxxxxxx
March 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
@Jake
Try restarting Trillian — see what happens.
March 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Jake – Do they remain after you shut Astra down and restart it? I’ve been through multiple scenarios since last night trying to get Astra happy, and have done as you have by removing all traces of Astra before re-installing. Everything is good and connections can be added and configured after this (or by deleting existing connection profiles as described later). But then I run into the same problem as soliphant after shutting down and restarting Astra. I have to manually delete the connection profiles in my user folder in order to be able to re-add them through Astra, otherwise the existing ones aren’t loaded, and you cannot re-add over top of them. Looks like something isn’t being preserved during the Astra shutdown/restart, or isn’t being read in properly during startup.
March 29th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I’ve done two PURE clean installs, restarted, saved the .ini’s, copied them once they’re created and copied them back and nada–this new build will NOT save my connection information.
March 29th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
hmmm cant setting the webcam …do we need to restart the pc after installing build 75?
btw… congratulation!! trillianastra is getting awesome.. nice
March 29th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
WEBCAM WON’T WORK.
Using Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 – it’s seen in the drop down list in Preferences but “Camera Settings” greyed out. I’ve tried this with and without the camera actively on. Had this problem in 3.1 as well.
Other messengers (MSN, Yahoo….) work fine with it. Only Trillian doesn’t.
CAN ANYONE HELP? I would be greatly in your debt! lol
March 29th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Hi ,
tried what jake said and i restarted it. Back to original problem.
March 29th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
1. When in Video call, text messages arrive with a huge delay. After I hear the sound that a new message arrived, it shows up on the screen after about 5-10 seconds.
2. Tried to view video with several Astra users, and all I get was “Establishing call…” and then nothing happened, or Trillian crashed after message came up that says it can’t connect.
3. While I’m on “establishing call” I don’t see myself and it there no window to see myself on camera, although settings recognize my cam.
I’ll keep trying with others.
March 29th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
@drabisan
try R12, if it doesn’t work tho let me know what is the error
March 29th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Auto-update doesn’t work and my credentials that I was emailed when I joined the beta program are no longer working either. Is there something I’m missing?
March 29th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Tried it with a different camera, now I can see myself. But I still cant’ connect to anyone. And sometimes the contact on the other side, crashes.
March 29th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Jake:
I removed Astra, deleted the application data, rebooted, did a clean install.
Had the same problem
March 29th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
[...] Trillian Astra build 75 was just released and there are a lot of great new features, read more here: Trillian Astra Build 75. [...]
March 29th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Installed 75 on fresh Vista Business (purchased a new laptop today). To be short: it’s a mess. period.
All my contacts and icq accounts are gone, any option saving fails. Without forced “run as administrator” it was not even able to change skin version from minimal to original, and admin mode still can’t help saving accounts, etc.
Worst build through all the time I’m in Astra testing.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
I deleted previous install, deleted .INIs, and i still cant add any connections. Looks like i am gonna have to download the old Pro version to get anything to run
March 29th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Yahoo sent me this message today. I hope trillian will still work after.
Dear Yahoo! Messenger Version 5.5/5.6 user,
To provide you with a higher level of security, the version of Yahoo! Messenger you are currently using will be retired on April 2, 2008. You must upgrade to our latest supported version in order to continue using Messenger. Don’t worry – it’s still free, and we’ll transfer your Messenger List for you.
March 29th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Anyone else notice that when you have your contact list open cpu usage jumps into the 80% range ? Close contact list and cpu usage drops down.
March 29th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I’m having the same troubles — can’t access my old connections, can’t add new ones, and fully uninstalling and deleting .ini’s in the profiles doesn’t seem to make any difference. Help appreciated!
March 29th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I’m having a new issue that no one else seems to be having. I closed Trillian in order to prevent my conversations being read by my family, and opened it around 30 min. later to get the error of “Can not read or write to the configuration directory for this account.” :\ Running Vista Home Premium.
March 29th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
By going into \application data\trillian on xp I can delete enough ini’s that I can successfully add new connections — but then I experience coup’s problem that when trillian is quit and reloaded the new connections are forgotten and un-addable until .ini’s are deleted again. Ugh! Is this a problem with the server-side astra account I have?
March 29th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
“Why is it that so many people have problems downloading the latest builds when auto-update is disabled?!”
Forget that rant.. I have had auto-update TURNED ON from DAY 1 – all previous updates have come thru just fine. Not this time, something’s wrong, looks more like my Astra credentials for logging in are not working, and I see that I’m not alone !
From all the troubles listed here, I’m not going to run the update until the problems get fixed. I’m not too keen on have to re-add ALL my contacts from 4 IM’s yet again.
March 29th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
when is this being released?
March 29th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I’m having trouble connecting. I’ve uninstalled, deleted all current configs in the program files folder and my appdata folder. Reinstalled was able to logon then upon exiting crashed. Then re-opened and again can’t connect or recreate connections. This is definitely a lot less stable than the previous build.
March 29th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Is the staff watching this area? How do we install the previous build. Just like other people, I’ve lost all my contacts and can’t add connections. The release is unusable.
March 29th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
I hope they are watching. With bugzilla gone I think this is the only way to log bugs.
Remember folks this is still a beta test platform. We are here to find the bugs and report them.
I’m running Vista and I had no issues, knock on wood, that others are having.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I’ve got the same problem as everyone else, all my accounts are gone and cannot be re-added. It has something to do with the INIs. If you delete AIM-, etc INI’s you can re-add the account. (it will still dissapear every time you start up, but its a temporary workaround). DEFINETLY a BIIIG problem. Bugzilla bug# 5370 (and probably others).
March 29th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
I am having the same problem on Vista I installed the new versions by myself because auto update is was not working after installing i lost all my connections and when i try and add a connection it wont save it or add the new connection….. need a fix ASAP!
March 29th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
For (Vista) people losing their connections:
1) Browse to C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Trillian\users\
2) Delete the .INI file(s) for each of your services.
(e.g. AIM-.ini )
3) Re-add each service (AIM, MSN, etc.) in “Identities and Connections” Done!
Relax people! It’s not perfect but it works. No need to worry about having to re-add your contacts. They don’t go away — just the connections.
XP users should be able to duplicate this as well once the correct folder is located in “Documents and Settings”.
Again! You have NOT lost your contacts just the connections!
March 29th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Argh!
Just as the earlier user I did the same . . .
Step 1 should read more like:
1) Browse to C:\Users\_username_\AppData\Roaming\Trillian\users\_username_
March 29th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Interesting to read all the woes.
I share the problems that others are having, I can’t even login to get the update, let alone have problems with it
An earlier posting mentioned that autoupdate wouldn’t work because of some transport changes, however since a lot of us can’t even login to the website and haven’t been able to for awhile, I think we were all expecting the beta team to send out another email with the direct link like they did when we joined the beta program. So far no email from them. Is there or will there be a direct link? Anyone know?
March 29th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
is there a way to show the mail accounts you’ve hidden? and sometimes it doesn’t hide the email account you click to hide, but i hid my AIM email accout in the “My Mail” section and i dunno how to get it back
March 29th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I also share the same problems others are having in which I am unable to add accounts, and unable to see the ones I had. I found that a clean reinstall allowed me to get my accounts in. I also found that deleting the ini files suggested above (the connection ini files) worked. However, if I exit and log back in, the connections are gone and I cannot re-add them until I delete the ini files. Somewhat disappointing. I been using the alpha since Novemberish and this is the first time I have been unable to use it.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Geez! Am I the only one who read the FIRST post (by staff) in this thread??? It clearly states, in the FIRST friggin’ paragraph, no less: “Auto-update is off again this week; please download the new build manually. ” RTFM guys and give the RS guys a tiny break!
March 29th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
I’m having the account problem, and suspect it may be related to my Astra account. If I log into the web version of Astra, even if I add new connections and connect to them it still lists the identity as containing 0 connections, and has the same problem was the windows client with all connection settings being lost after logout. Also, when I try to bring up my AstraContact it seems to be stuck at “Loading…” indefinitely (not sure if this is expected behavior/new, haven’t tried to use it recently). Disconnecting the desktop client from the Astra network before creating the new connection doesn’t solve the problem, however.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
I had the same problem about the identities gone but followed the instructions from the members here, I actually moved the entire folder where the ini files are for the connections, trillian asked me to add the plug in and I did then then I was able to access my connections.
March 29th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Oops, I meant the CS guys!

Sorry, guys, but this build is totally unusable for me. I’ve posted a bunch of screenshots here: http://www.sdwolf.net/BrokenAstra/
Shot 1: The entire contact list window acts like a “hide” button, even showing the tooltip. Clicking anywhere in the window will minimize the contact list to the tray. Can’t even move the window. I’m actually connected to AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Google, and Jabber, and I do see online and offline notifications when contacts sign on and off, but as you can see, the contact list is blank, and the medium icons are missing.
Shot 2: Blank contact list Menu Bar.
Shot 3: All menus appear solid black with no text. Only highlighted items are readable.
Shot 4: The Manage My Profile gives a blank panel.
Shot 5: The Add Contact panel is broken.
Shot 6: The Settings panel is also broken.
Shot 7: The Search panel: blank and broken.
Shot 8: The Systray menu is also blacked-out. Only highlighted items are readable.
In an effort to fix this, I tried uninstalling Trillian, then cleaning all traces of it from:
- C:\Program Files (x86)
- C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)
- And The Registry
No effect, though. Still have the same problems with a clean install.
System Specs:
- Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 (RTM)
- Athlon64 X2 3800+
- 2GB RAM
- NVidia GeForce 7950 GT TDH, Forceware version 169.25 (latest 64-bit drivers)
March 29th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Oops, forgot to mention, in the course of cleaning it out, I also removed all traces of it from:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming
Hope a fix will be released soon. Can’t test anything with Astra like this. The is the first build I’ve had that was this badly broken; all of the other builds were at least testable.
March 29th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
SDWolf, I have expierience the same issue since build 71 on 64bit vista ultimate, 32bit vista business…try right click and run as administrator…that has been my work around…I had to change the shortcuts to say run as admin once I saw that worked…
March 29th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Update:
Apologies for the multiple posts.
Apparently running Astra as an Administrator corrects the issues I’m having, but this is NOT an acceptable workaround; I’m understandably nervous about giving a piece of Alpha software free reign over my system.
I think I’ll sit out this build and wait for the next one (or a hotfix/patch on this build) to resume testing.
Submitted a report to Bugzilla: http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5392

After installing Build 75, I’m having the same problems as Holger
“Everything looks nice, but connections are not saved in my identity. After a Trillian restart, I’m not even able to re-enter a connection (ICQ, MSN, Jabber, …).
Already deleted my whole userdata (Appdata\Roaming\Trillian) and started to re-configure Trillian completely, even this does not work.”
Otherwise things have been great. Keep up the good work.

Hello all, So far this build has been pretty stable for me.
However i do have the same proble as one other person here, that i was able to turn off the splash screen but the check box does not stay when logging out of trillian and turning it back on. So i am not able to turn the splash screen to show again. I have even looked through the .ini files and still cant find anything in there either.
Thanks,

I cannot run Astra at all. After initially installing B75 all my connections were gone and they could not be recreated or if they were, they would be gone with each new opening of the Astra….
I removed everything, all user and data folders, after uninstalling Astra..
Fresh install …. nothing, I cannot build my connections in Astra v4 B75.
I have just finished reverting back to Pro v3
Guess I’ll wait till the next build …

[...] Saturday morning the Trillian dev team released Trillian Astra Build 75 to testers. This is a pretty major upgrade requiring that the client and Astra servers be update [...]

@alextheblade
I have r12, but, from time to time I get and error pointing me to “http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms775927.aspx” error. I got the same error, also from time to time using Asta 74 with R12. It’s a problem with LCS 12. I don’t understand why 11 it’s not working anymore on Astra 75…
Also, on LCS12 with Astra 75, if somebody from my LCS contacts is writing me, I see a message “This contact is not on your Contact List!….”. If I click Add it appears “buddy already added!”, normal, as I already have the contact in my list. Contact is online, without any tricks. This problem didn’t appeared on 74!
I belive v75 is far worst than v74.
I’m a user that doesn’t care about video chat and I’m complaing about lack of stability for classic stuff, like text chat!
March 30th, 2008 at 11:16 am
EPIC FAIL on this one. I’ve shut down, reinstalled, run as administrator, deleted INIs, backed up, deleted directories, reinstalled, recreated identities, reconnected services, redone all my preferences. And still I have no connections everytime I start Trillian. Running Vista Home Premium as Administrator with UAC turned off. This totally blows.
March 30th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
So I did all the “fixes” that every one said should work and it works until i restart then its all gone again.
March 30th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
* sorry for multi posts I uninstalled Astra and deleted the folder in my programs and also the folder in the User folder and now seems to be working ok….
March 30th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I’ve got the same problem everyone else does: no auto update, and then once I manually install the upgrade: everything’s gone. This is really a poor excuse for a new build. C’mon guys, it was great until now, and now you fail at life.
March 30th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

March 30th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
So I think part of the problem is on the server side. If I login to Astra through the web client at http://www.trillian.im (does not work on IE7; I had to use Firefox), it shows no connections. I can add a new connection on the web side, but if I logout and log back in it’s gone. So it’s possible that the client-side Trillian asks the server about what connections there are — and if they’re not established there, that overwrites any manual additions made on the desktop client. I hope that means the fix can happen on the server side and once done everything will magically work again. But all this is inference. …JZ
March 30th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
well i updated and like others here it failed badly
deleted ini files and created a new person
but i cant login to msn at all!
March 30th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Really great.
But there’s one problem on my notebook. I can’t configure the integrated webcam.
My notebook : ASUS A6Ja
Continue that way, trillian is really wonderfull
March 30th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
how do u update it will not even let me use the client with out the update so annoying
March 30th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
ALL THOSE WITH UPDATE QUESTIONS…
READ YOUR EMAIL. There is a link you click on to get the CURRENT build all the time. It always works, ALWAYS. Even when auto-update is on. You will get asked for a username/password, DO NOT USE YOUR ASTRA INFO, use the special username/password given in your email for that link.
That is it. That is all there is too it. It has been like that since the day you joined. You do not go to http://www.trillianastra.com and try to login to update. It does NOT work that way.
Please for heaven’s sake … just read the email. It is amazingly sad how many people are not figuring this out.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Yep.. can’t login, can’t find the manual download, I’m completely stuck! Not that it would help.
I HAVE my original email.. the system won’t accept my login ! Back to Pro I guess.. for now.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
No need to be ugly about it Diamond… I found the update… but I’m still NOT installing it until they fix this mess.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I’D WAIT BEFORE YOU UPRGADE TO THIS VERSION. IT DOESNT WORK FOR THE MAJORITY.
March 30th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Hi @ all,
updated to actual build 75. and got same problem as above posted.
…technical informations at first:
- running Win XP SP 3 (v.3311) (32bit)
- using admin-account
- athlonXP 3000+ / 1 GB RAM
Cerulean Studios, we have a problem^^ – Trillian updated well, but no connections, only IRC works. No possibility to add or re-add the connections. IRC connections shown and working.
I tried clean install. I deleted Trillian 3 and also Trillian 4, deleted according folders.
New installation only build75. Installation successful, but same problem as well. Now also my IRC connections are ‘lost’.
Then I read all (!) posts here at this thread. Tried to follow the .ini – copying-thing as descdribed above, but it failed. My directories are much more different – nothing alike that…
Now I am awaiting the next update that hopefully fix this bug.
Thanx for reading.
…to CS : always open for contact when u need more informations.
Have a nice day !
March 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I am unable to download the newest build. When Trillian starts, it tries to log in, and just hangs. Normally it will automatically download and install the new build. Can you email me a link to the latest build so I can download and install? richdea at gmail.com
Thanks.
March 30th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
LadynRed … I wasn’t talking to anyone with technical issues. Waiting to update is also a different situation.
I am talking to those that can’t figure out how to download the build.
But if you have your email, you have the link, and it gives you the username/password, and it works just fine, I just tested it again. It is the info that is the same for all users, you are probably using your Astra info like I said not to.
March 30th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Well, it seems already has yelled about the .ini files and account disappearances.
The one thing that is bothering me, is the “fullscreen” button on chat windows, you can’t click the button again to make the window go back to its original shape. You have to either double click the bar at the top(breaks when you have more than one tab in a container so you can’t use that anymore), or close the window and reopen it. Cordonata skin.
March 30th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
I mentioned that to
March 30th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Hi @ all,
I found some more ‘failure’ :
When I here : Menu -> Preferences -> first page Installation & Startup
my problem is : the windows doesn’t appears correct : the screen is smaller than the page is, meanss : when I scroll down, the last option is ’select language’ – the whole lane is displayed only at the half.
I will check for a bug-report, if I don’t find anything I’ll do the report.
so long…
March 30th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Why do we keep seeing that the AUTO update did not work. I think the 3rd sentence says this..
Auto-update is off again this week; please download the new build manually
Why do we keep seeing this posting as that the Auto Update is not working..
Read PEOPLE..
As far as B75 it has been worlking flawless for me. Upgraded with no problems.
But also remember peeps, this is a BETA program, just report the problems and CS will get it fixed eventually.
Just give it time. Why do you think that CS wanted BETA testers for this program, i think maybe because they wanted to get people to test it before final release.
Patience is of the Essence.
Thanks CS..
March 30th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Just reporting, not saving anything for me on vista. Deleted everything, fully clean install still no go.
March 30th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
DiamondNRG, don’t let ‘em get to you (you were NOT being ugly). You are right: the information for downloading it IS in the email. I’m one of those people who “skims” things (bad idea, I know) and even I got it. And if it were indeed not working, then why would all these people be kvetching about the release?
Not to add to it, but I hope you guys got the couple messages I’ve left about the weather widget not working at all.
Anyway, take care and hang in there!
March 30th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Hello! When there will be Russian in Trillian Astra?
March 30th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
bojowaggie, Sorry to correct you, but if I’m not mistaken, this is an ALPHA program, not a beta program. That makes all this whining even more baffling (others, not yours).
Let’s support these guys and do our jobs of helping them make this product the best it can be before it goes to public release! ra ra ra!
March 30th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Also just tried the web client and that’s a bit screwed up too. Second time in I couldn’t make the menus for connection settings come up, just a loading message.
March 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
For those who are on XP SP2, have an empty connection list, and arent able to add connections back in… Heres what i did that worked:
- Uncheck all connection plugin options (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, Myspace etc..)
- Close trillian
- Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Trillian\users\
- Move all connection INI files out of the directory (e.g. AIM-user.ini, MSN-user.ini…)
- start trillian again and check off the connection plugins. add connections back into connection manager.
I didnt lose any contact info at all, and it reconnected perfectly fine. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion from previous half explained posts.

For all those having problems with all connections being wiped out upon installing build 75 (yeah, did it to me too….grrrr), I did some trouble-shooting and think I’ve determined that build 75 is completely incompatible with the SimpLite encryption program (previous builds did not have this problem). To figure this out, I performed the following steps:
>exited Astra (with all connections appearing gone), deleted the
March 30th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
(continuation)
I performed the following steps:
> Exited Astra
> Deleted the C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Trillian folder
> Re-launched and logged into Astra
> Re-setup all my connections (they all worked fine at this point)
> Exited the application
> Launched SimpLite and then fired up Astra. Once again ALL connections were blown-out, and I couldn’t re-add of fix them much like other users are reporting.
> I repeated this entire process again, and for now Astra is working (I DARE not open SimpLite, or it appears I will blow away my Astra config. again).
Hope that helps in the troubleshooting process? I for one CANNOT do with out some type of secure/encrypted chat functionality, so until this is fixed, it’s pretty much a deal killer for me! Hope the Cerulean folks can work with the folks at Secway folks and get this figured out in short order??
Thanks everyone!
March 30th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
P.S. – I overwrote my copy of the Build 74 install executable. Does anyone still have it? If so, can you forward so I can continue using Astra in a prior build until this is figured out? Otherwise, I have’ to switch back to MS Messenger, and abandon Trillian Astra for now.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Using an old build holds no purpose in the alpha test. Might as well use your MSN messenger. Why can’t you get build 75 working? There are plenty of solutions to the connections issues on the forums.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Ummm…build 75 IS working (as my post says). In fact, it’s working fine. It’s the fact that Build 75 appears to be incompatible with the Secway encryption product that I’m considering (temporarily) going back to MS Messenger (until the problem is addressed/resolved by Cerulean and/or Secway).
March 30th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
DC: If you don’t mind posting your email address here, I will gladly send B74 through yousendit.com…and this goes for anyone else who would like to revert back to B74 until a more functional build comes out.
As for B75, this is a certainly a step forward in the right direction by finally finishing the video code and at least making it available. But, it greatly contrasts the near 100% call establishment rates they were promising in their last post, just purely overoptimistic considering majority of us cannot even get our connections saved. Well, for now, I am just laying back for the next build and keeping tab on developments here.
March 30th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
dcieslak@gmail.com – Thanks Blueink!
March 30th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
too all that is giving attitude about asking update question i know there was a link inside the email but hell that was ages ago i didn’t actually think i need that email cuz they had a updating server..so i didn’t make sure i saved it so when the pc went to hell i lost it cuz i had to reinstall and again not knowing i needed that email it didn’t get backed up… and usually i just leave trillian on and i shut it down for dumb ass reason and now when trying to get back in it says i must update.. so now i cant use trillian… so chill
and blueink! please send to Brian@magicswebpage.net thanks!
March 30th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
@ everyone – works perfect for me, see ya suckers!
March 30th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
@ blueink – PhoenixAF24@gmail.com – and thank u for offering.
March 30th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Yeah, now I’m a little pissed off. I guess I’ve gotten too dependent on a beta app.
I can’t even get Trillian to start now. I get the login screen, click my icon and get this:
“Unable to read from or write to the configuration directory for this account.”
Bummer.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Personally I don’t see the different from the last few versions.
Than again I don’t use voice/video chat.
Still waiting to be able to add my own buddy icon/pic to my mates chat window again.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Well, i am having the same problem as everyone else. Since build 75, my connection info disappears, etc etc. I am using win xp. I tried uninstalling it and installing 74, but it wouldnt let me sign in once i installed it.
Anyone still using 74.
March 30th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

For me.. it has done as it has done for others..
Connection information NOT saved on shutdown of computer.
I still cant get a proxy to work..

Yahoo works as a stand alone.
I am not the broken up about it.. I work around it..

do you really want to??

@DiamondNRG:
“There are plenty of solutions to the connections issues on the forums.”
Wouldn’t it be of value to provide some sort of link to said solutions? No one here has refered to said solutions — we are all still having the same problems so if someone has an actual solution or knows where we can look it would be great. I’ve resorted to using Trillian 3.1 for now.
March 30th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
The only solutions i have heard here is deleting the the ini files, and that only works until the next time trillian starts. I havent heard of any longer lasting solutions.
March 31st, 2008 at 12:58 am
@Horizon,
Thanks for your post in regards to getting trillian astra to work.
Instead of deleting my userprofile, simply renaming it does the trick.
I prefer to not delete things, as sometimes, you never know if you can get pertinent data back

“There are plenty of solutions to the connections issues on the forums.”
There is NO solution!
March 31st, 2008 at 2:25 am
Correct the solution in the forums has a flaw. Something must be causing this for you guys though, because it doesn’t happen at all to a lot of people.
Do you all have the auto-login disabled?
March 31st, 2008 at 2:51 am
Hi all, well lazy me just got around to installing this update and let me tell you…. if it wasnt for faith and love and all that i would walk out. this build not only will not let me run it, after the initial install of the build it wont even boot up for me.after 5 un-installs and reboots and installs i will goto bed. System stats are as follows…
xp x64 professional. amd x2 4000+ 4 gigs ddr400 1TB hd space free ati HD 3470
it may just be that i am brain ded from my classes, but something is REALLY wrong here. hit me up via email please with a solution, as i will be remoting all day tomarrow. jbwall@klinkwall.net
Thanks!
March 31st, 2008 at 3:02 am
All those problems repeated with XP Pro SP2, running under local admin.
Deleted all application data files, reinstall — exactly the same behavior I experienced yesterday under Vista Business.
What a mess.
I was using Astra as my primary IM at ALL my rigs for the last six months and almost forgot that it was alpha, so good and stable it was.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:20 am
I didn’t want video conference THIS bad. Matter of fact, did anyone? Or was video conferencing enabled and pushed to try and keep up with competition? If so, the competition’s video conferencing capabilities have been working for quite awhile so you’re about 1 year too late… time to just rollback this update to 74 and release this to the public.
March 31st, 2008 at 4:25 am
Why the mass resentment of users asking for manual update instructions? Ok, I get that the information was sent out in the welcome email. But due to a Thunderbird profile crash that forced me into email bankruptcy, it seems I don’t have that email any more. Based on others’ comments here I gather that the download is still behind a login wall, so why not post a link of at least where to start? As for now, I’m left with an IM client that won’t launch (and would likely be broken after I did launch it, sounds like) and have no next steps other than to post here as one more voice politely asking for directions.
Going back to Digsby for a while until this gets sorted out.

March 31st, 2008 at 6:29 am
I dont get why the hell you don’t release a Bugfix for the Crashing, the problem with the Connection-Adding thing, all that stuff, its totally anoing!
March 31st, 2008 at 6:29 am
WORKAROUND / SOLUTION
Disable ASTRA-Connection Auto-Start or change Astra-Network Port, so that Astra wont connect to the Astra-Servers.
After this, restart Trillian.
Then, your ICQ/MSN aso. are up again.
This seems to be a server-problem.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:31 am
DiamondNRG says gto read our email… I didn’t get an email and can’t find an update link. The update link and password in last email I received do not work (Sep 07)
March 31st, 2008 at 7:51 am
this latest build is awful
i’m back to trillian free ’till these problems are resolved
March 31st, 2008 at 7:52 am
@ DiamondNRG
please go through the forum and you’ll see how many people experiencing the same problem. the behavior of connections is really strange and it is nor working properly at all. furthermore, there is really big issue with jabber/gtalk plugin. i have reported this as a bug, so I hope it will be fixed in next build.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:20 am
Well I managed to get the download and ave build 75. Now like others my connections are gone and I cannot re-add them. I am guessing that my contacts are gone as well.

I didnt lose any contact info at all, and it reconnected perfectly fine. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion from previous half explained posts.

I did all that, and re-established my connections. However, if I close Trillian, I lose them all again and cannot re-add them unless I repeat the above steps.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:45 am
Well I have tried the things suggested here about 3 times each. The best I can do is get Trillian to recognize my accounts once. If it gets shut down for any reason (clean shut down, crash, anything) it ‘forgets’ all my accounts and won’t let me re-add them unless I start over and remove them all from Application data.
March 31st, 2008 at 9:50 am
I didn’t get an e-mail either, but my Trillian Astra is hung up waiting for me to do the right thing (download manually)… Little help here? Where, oh where has my little lamb gone? No e-mail – no download?
So if anyone could throw me a bone here, I’d be most grateful… I’m sure the answer must be in one of the posts but it’s almost 10AM and I’ve got no time to read them all (here at work)… Soooo… HELP!
Thanks!
March 31st, 2008 at 10:01 am
Ditto the above behavior. No connections after upgrade. Wouldn’t add them. Deleted the ini files. Added connections. All seemed to be working (except AIM). Shut down. Walked away for an hour. Came back… no connections and can’t add them. Again.
March 31st, 2008 at 10:09 am
Anyone having problems sending files through your astra account? I can send files via the other services, but it fails when i try to send it through astra. Anyone else experience this?
March 31st, 2008 at 10:19 am
Bryan, do you have port 5190 forwarded on your router? That has been required for it to work for me since the day they added it.
Jake, I am aware that this build is causing problems for a huge group of people. I do not think the mass “attack them and tell them to make build 74 final” comments are appropriate though. I am sure they will deal with this bug. Have some faith, you have hung in this long so far, what is another 4 days?
March 31st, 2008 at 10:44 am
Ken – just did your suggestion and I am back up and running thank you, I guess I should never shut down ever again though per your last comment.
Either way thanks for the post, at least I am back in with contacts (for now).

For those of you who are saying that your account doesn’t work for the download – remember that in your original email, there are TWO accounts mentioned in the email… one is your astra login the other is your user/password for the download… two very different logins.
@ blueink : alshrim@rogers.com — thx for doing this.
I’m having the same issues as everyone .. for me, however, I have 2 different yahoo accounts. after adding one, it worked fine, adding the second one, however doesn’t work.. and i am unable to change the connection settings… So i guess there is a little more work to be done on B75.
Awaiting faithfully.

Yes, but what if you haven’t even received an e-mail??

Hi All,
I tried was Pandur200 mentioned above. It works for me, all connections are back
Thanks and regards!:
Pandur2000 Says:

WORKAROUND / SOLUTION
Disable ASTRA-Connection Auto-Start or change Astra-Network Port, so that Astra wont connect to the Astra-Servers.
After this, restart Trillian.
Then, your ICQ/MSN aso. are up again.
This seems to be a server-problem.
March 31st, 2008 at 11:20 am
Diamond – I’ll check, but i believe that i have that port open. I think that is the same port that AOL uses. Have you tried a file transfer to someone on astra?
March 31st, 2008 at 11:31 am
* PLEASE READ CONCERNING LOST CONNECTIONS *
This has been address by Bug 5370. Cerulean Studios is aware of the bug and has marked the bug as Fixed/Resolved. If it is server side only, once they have implemented the new fix across their live server network, you should be able to see your connections again. Otherwise the next build should fix it. In the meantime, there is a workaround listed on that bug and in the forums of changing the Astra Profile network connection setting from port 3158 to something else. This puts Astra in Offline Mode but connections still work and connection.
And none of the lost connections result in lost contacts.

I am also having problems downloading build 75. I clicked on the link in the September email, typed in my user id and password and have been “logging in” for the last half hour. It just hangs.
Any other suggestions? wgura@handsonit.com

Worst build ever.
I was told to log into build 74 to sync my Astra profile with the Cerulean servers.. AFTER I had already been forcibly told I had to install build 75. Thanks for the warning! Surely a message such as this should be displayed alongside the update notice? Not after the damage is done?
I’ve also been impacted by bug 5370, and Astra is completely and utterly useless to me in its current state. I’ve reinstalled, nuked my app data directoy, deleted program files\trillian, and a bunch of other suggestions. None have worked. All I can log into is the Astra IM network, which is useless when you can’t invite friends to the alpha/beta. After this I doubt I’ll be inclined to ask friends to test it though.
March 31st, 2008 at 12:27 pm
i worked around it… good thing i kept the original e-mail inviting me to be an Astra Alpha user (from many months ago)… i used the link in that e-mail to download the latest version first. once i did that, i followed boostdemon’s instructions, which worked… HOWEVER, when i tried logging off and logging back in to make sure everything was cool, it was a NO GO. first, i got an error message: You may only log into this account once per machine. Please choose a different account or logoff in your other copy of Trillian.
then when i tried rebooting and starting over, i literally had to do the whole thing all over again (adding each of my connections).
sooooo… what gives?
March 31st, 2008 at 12:28 pm
No problems at all
Did the VERY SIMPLE manual update and everything works like before. I do not even see a difference between builds 74+75 since I don’t use A/V, except that this annoying “loosing of trillian log-in data on startup” seems to be gone (for now). Logs-in even faster…
March 31st, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Is there an official guide out yet for fixing this on XP SP2, and for guaranteeing a working install?
It hosed my home machine, and I am afraid to install it here at work, since this is where I need it most and I don’t want to loose all my connections/contacts again. Never had an issue with a previous update, so I hope this one gets cleaned out.

@DiamondNRG,
For some, 4 more days + arrogant customer service makes all the difference in the world.

This issue is supposedly fixed in build 76:
“— Comment #42 from Kevin Kurtz 2008-03-31 12:47:58 —
Fixed in build 76. ”
So… when will this be available for download? I can’t use Astra until 76 is available.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
After upgrading from build 72 to 75 I lost all my account information and I also cannot get Trillian to remember my settings.
This is the first big issue I have had.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I have the same issue with build 75, I bypassed it for now by switching the Trillian port instead of 3158 to 4444 this will bypass the Trillian servers and I can use my accounts without any issues and it will keep the accounts after closing trillian.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Worked great this time! Installed again after reading more comments, specifically the one from xaaqq about the bug filed & fixed, and I suppose that will fix my issue at home as well. Last night to this morning, what a change =) The issue tracker & regular forums are a bit of a PITA.

“So… when will this be available for download? I can’t use Astra until 76 is available.”
likely on friday… since every build was released on friday. and like DiamondNRG said “just 4 more days” … can’t use trillian, use somethings else, stable… this is ALPHA

I just uninstalled 75, reloaded old version and updated to 72. Accounts are back.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Ok. New issue. Now I cannot log into the Astra network. All other connections are working as before.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Am sure some of us are experiencing this issue and if this is a repeat, I apologize since am unable to get it resolved. When logging, I do get a prompt for updated B75 build but I cannot loging to auto update. When trying to do a manual download, my p/w is not accepted. But yet as you can see, I’m able to log and post this. Please help downloading B75 build.
Thanks in advance

My Bad. I feel stupid.. I think am able to download the build from the initial link. Will test and update…
March 31st, 2008 at 2:00 pm
The workaround with the Astra-Ports works, but there is a major bug in Cobalt Minimal, no tabbed IM’ing! Bug reported! GOGOGO for Build 76 guys!
March 31st, 2008 at 2:16 pm
argh. Just got 75 to work with accounts but still no Astra login. It told me my version was no longer allowed to connect. Then I got an update notice for 76…. After installing I cannot connect at all to Trillian now. it rejects my password???
March 31st, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Well am good to go with B76. Have successfully logged into Astra profile as well as MSN/AOL/Yahoo.. No issues. My guess is AV chat is currently functional for Astra service only.
March 31st, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Wow, a build to fix most of the issues 2 days after 75 was released. I bet some of you really feel bad for the horrible comments you made.
This is alpha, things break. And when they break bad (like 75) CS fixes them. I am not saying 76 is the answer to everyone’s problem, but cut them just a bit of slack. They released a build on a WEEKEND and then still fixed it on Monday.
Nice job CS!
March 31st, 2008 at 6:16 pm
how do i get to use video?
April 1st, 2008 at 9:33 am
And just where do you get this B76? I won’t download automatically with the last client I have and I can’t login to the website to download it.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:27 pm
jerricho, you read the email you got when you first got accepted as a tester. That has been written about 20 times in this blog entry alone!
There is a link in there along with the username and password to use (NOT YOUR ASTRA ONE)
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 am
Dang… I just read this email for the 40th time, and realized the username and password to manually download is directly under the link. For those of you who do have the emails, look in the paragraph right below the link to download. Hope that helps.

I still am at a loss to figure out 2 very basic features which used to be readily available in a drop-down menu :
- How do I create or change a buddy Icon (including namely for a meta-contact)
- How do I block/unblock a contact.
FAQs etc only address Trillian 3 forb which I have no problem with those questions
April 4th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
niels … you can remove icons but you can’t set them, that feature is missing still.
to block a contact right click them pick “privacy”. Block and visibility options are in there.
April 8th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
I can login to the app but I cannot login to the web version trillianastra.com. Any suggestions? Thanks.
April 9th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

May 26th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Hi all,
This is the first place I searched when getting the “can’t read from configuration…” error. I see that many of you are having similar issues. I found that if you completely uninstall, then delete the Trillian folder (XP: ‘Program Files’ > ‘Trillian’; Vista: ‘Program Files (x86)’ > ‘Trillian’), then do a reinstall it fixes the issues.
Hope this helps.
