Looking good guys. Auto-update kicked off without an issue…
June 24th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Way to go Guys! Looks good so far!
June 24th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Yay! Auto-login for hotmail finally works.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
wow, that was fast, didn’t expect something today..
great!!
June 24th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
June 24th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Awesome icons! Everything looks solid!
June 24th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Wow, for the first time, I got to be in the top 10 comments!
Looks good to me too. Update went well. Looking to test out the video stuff!
June 24th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Build 81 causes a crash report every single time I try to boot trillian. I had to disable my XMPP and MSN plugins then restart it and re-enable them.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Damn it. Current Song still isn’t working for me…
June 24th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
nice build , i hope the crashes caused by the skin got fixed
over all seems great , love the new emoticons
June 24th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
I am also experiencing the same symptoms that ddelella mentioned. As MSN starts up, and the mail notifications pop up, a crash has been detected pops up. So far, after shutting off the MSN / Windows Live plugin, no problems.
June 24th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Wow, for the first time after the update, it didn’t change my skin from cobalt normal to minimal. It would be nice though if other settings were saved when an update is done (like connection preferences). So when are we going to stop getting new icons and start working on an actual final release?
June 24th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Nice to see a new build on my birthday
!!!
June 24th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Awesome guys! Now this is the way I wanted to see Trillian all along! The progress is looking better and better every day lately! Keep the good news rolling!
@rushd
Happy birthday! I’ve got one coming up soon as well in 11 days (July 5th). I don’t think I’ll get the surprise of a build on a saturday though. It would be awesome though! Congrats!
June 24th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Thanx for the update. gd work. One thing i have noticed on build 81 is info cards for msn contacts are not lining up properly now. when i put mouse cursor over a contact (any msn contact offline or online) the line that highlites the user and goes over to the infocard is now between that user and the one above it. Has anyone else noticed this ? Besides that all seems to be running good with build 81. Thanx again C.S.
June 24th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Well, MSN works great for me now, also. I had it disabled for over a month, because it kept logging out/in on it’s own.
Everything seems to be working great for me at the moment! Thanks!
June 24th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Just curious. What is the exit criteria to leave alpha and go beta?
I love Trillian Astra and others are going to love it too.
June 24th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Very nice. This project is coming along nicely. The mass messaging is greatly enhanced and MSN works flawlessly. Good work guys!
June 24th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Love the new build. Good job CS.
June 24th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
To be honest: I don’t like the emoticons’ new style that much. They lost somehow their simplicity and lightness I loved them for. (Hope there will be a way at least to “import” the old ones
)
But nvm. New build is working fine. Great Job so far
June 24th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
yabba dabba doo dribble dribble slobber slobber, hotmail works now I can finally check me hotmail account thru Trillian and not have to log into windows live as a separate item. Thankyou
June 24th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
I believe the whole concept on the new emoticons is to match the same emoticons that the other company IMs possess.
And I don’t understand why you would want this company to quit production on this product by going to a final release? The longer this project is in alpha the more implements they will add to make it be like if not better than the original “companies” IMs. And also make it better than them others.
June 24th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Sweet thanks for the new update. Running better already.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Besides the msn infocard issue that i stated earlier i have also noticed that while contact list is open the cpu usage is still between 70% to 100%. Ever going to fix that issue ?
June 24th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
I don’t know how to measure the exact CPU usage that mine is using. But when I brought up my Windows Task Manager and was looking at the usage of the CPU when it was running it was 47% +/- and when I turned it off it was the same. So maybe you could tell me what exactly you did to calculate that so I could try it and see.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
================================ :’-( =======================================
I don’t know why I’ve started using Live Messenger, instead of Trillian. Maybe because I don’t know when trillian gets connected and disconnected without my knowledge. It is becoming unreliable and I am expecting to send same custom emotions that friends send.
June 24th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I too got several crashes on startup, but eventually trillian stabilized.
June 25th, 2008 at 2:33 am
@ roger2
all i’m doing is looking at the cpu usage percentage in windows task manager/performance tab. i am watching it right now as i type this and i’m still havin same issue. Lowest i have seen it so far is 66% and highest 100%. but the second i close/minimize my contact list, cpu usage drops to 0% to 5%. i have a 3.2 gig processor and 2 gig ram. i have noticed astra doing this for many builds now and i kinda wonder why it has not been fixed.
thanx for askin
June 25th, 2008 at 2:33 am
sry for the name typo i ment rogerg2
June 25th, 2008 at 4:56 am
Same for me; crashes as soon as I enable Live Messenger plugin, which makes it useless to me, since that’s all I use it for.
June 25th, 2008 at 4:58 am
Most new emoticons look good, but the kiss one looks like the face of a inflatable sex emotidoll
June 25th, 2008 at 5:03 am
hmm I have problem it crashes everytime I star after 10 seconds, byt without msn it works…
June 25th, 2008 at 7:43 am
Crash, crash, crash. How you people release updates without to test them? Any way to downgrade to the previous build?
June 25th, 2008 at 8:12 am
sry for posting again BUT…i figured out the CPU Usage issue i was having….While having the weather widget in contact list in Full mode is when its eating up the cpu……if the widget is in icon mode it is not killing my cpu. Kind of a bummer cuz i like the widget in full mode. I also noticed that when the widget is in full mode the infocard for it is white and the text is not readable, but when in icon mode the infocard is proper to the theme i am using (Black Theme). BUT..lol…in icon mode it’s not displaying all the info properly…such as my home town and weather conditions. example it should say Party Cloudy when in fact its saying Partly Clo …oh well… i understand astra is in alpha phase and issues such as these are going to happen, but i hope these are issues that get attention soon, esp the cpu usage while the widget is in full mode.

/agree
smiley, you won’t get the impression of someone smiling (at least, not smiling with joy).
I don’t think the new emoticons are “better” than the old ones; those new emoticons are actually NOT “emotive”/”emotional” as emoticons are supposed to be. For example, if you look at the
However, I’m certainly going to exchange them ;D
Well, never mind! Just keep on fixing bugs
btw.: why do trillian emoticons have no teeth?
June 25th, 2008 at 9:43 am
It crashes everytime i start!
how can i fix the problem?
btw… why isnt there a function to abort the update at the start and start astra without making the update?
June 25th, 2008 at 9:57 am
WOW!!! 5 crashes in a row.. agreed.. Windows Live Plugin is now disabled and all is peaceful. It seems quite possible that MSN plugin is broken…. Anyone have a fix or is this something for build 82?
June 25th, 2008 at 9:59 am
I took a chance an re-enabled Windows Live once Trillian loaded safely. within 5 seconds.. crashed.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:06 am
agnostic-stigmata: Why not use FireFox and then use the Forecast fox plugin. It’s WAY Better than any widget. You can view 1 – 9 days out (depends on your screen width) and it pops up alerts and connects to Accuweather. CPU usage is near 0.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:09 am
I haven’t had any of the problems that the posters above have described (WOO HOO!)… For me, so far, so good…
June 25th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Trillian Alpha is making my operating system (Windows 2000 SP4) useless when I log in to my MSN accounts (I have 5), because I get sooo many authorization requests and those popping up request windows of Trillian are consuming 100 % CPU and also my main memory so I must hard reset my computer. Is it possible to turn off authorization windows?
June 25th, 2008 at 11:10 am
@agnostic-stigmata
it could be one of your widgets or other plug-ins that is causing this defect. Because I am still getting the same results as I had previously stated. May be you could try disabling everything except The Main Trillian GUI and your regular IM plug-ins and see if you’re getting the same results.
June 25th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Sorry for that previous post. Maybe it would help if I read the whole site before replying.
June 25th, 2008 at 11:27 am
TheKellyn: I was perfect yesterday too. I rebooted and that’s when I started having issues with Windows Live. It’s a pain in the ass.. but still Trillian is great.
LOL to the new LOL
June 25th, 2008 at 11:43 am
The mouse-copy bug is fixed =)
if the mood in the blogs gets down, you release a new build… clever^^)
I can’t believe it =)
Great build! And fast…
(This strategy is good
June 25th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
All in all, the build works very stably (stablely? stable-ly?). My only complaint is the new emoticons; most of them are fine, but there’s this big stupid question mark that comes up, and this smiley that takes up the entire screen when i do “lol” and the only way to not see them is to turn off all emoticons. I’d like to see a way to disable certain emoticons, but not the rest.
Keep up the great work though! I hope this gets out of Alpha and into Beta soon, I have friends that are switching over to pidgin because this is taking so long and they haven’t gotten an Alpha invite.
June 25th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
[...] Trillian Astra was released on Tuesday. Apparently they felt it was necessary to tell everyone that the emots are being renovated, “Hundreds have been completed and there are still hundreds to be added in the builds to [...]
June 25th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
The new built is very stable. But it consumes more cpu resource.
ReverendJim: i agree, my boss (who shown me trillian when i joined this company), couldnt get alpha invite and stopped using trillian 3 pro, he uses pidgin for few weeks now, though he envy my trillian alpha.
June 25th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
handycommander … because updates are not optional.
bramscolnick … suggesting people use a browser plugin instead isn’t really a valid suggestion. Some people (like me) have their IM client open 24/7 but only have their browser open when in use. This is actually a pretty normal situation.
All in all while we can debate the issue of the priority of the weather widget bug, it still is a bug and they are not wrong for wanting it to be fixed.
June 26th, 2008 at 1:07 am
I appreciate the sugguestion of Firefox ForecastFox but i must agree with DiamondNRG’s response of “Some people (like me) have their IM client open 24/7 but only have their browser open when in use”…..I am one of those ppl. The reason i mention the Weather Widget in Full Mode (While contact list is open) is because it is eating up to 100% CPU Usage…..I think that is an important issue to be addressed.
June 26th, 2008 at 3:37 am
Anyone figure out a solution yet for the MSN plugin?
June 26th, 2008 at 9:06 am
I had to rebuild my OS for a different issue not related to Trillian and now I cannot even get it to run from a fresh install.
Just comes up with a default trillian screen and I cannot do or see anything. Cannot even access my preference or shut the program down.
June 26th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Mostly good….
I’m not sure if it was this build, or the fact that I did a fresh install yesterday, but I notice that notifications for new incoming email on Hotmail, which used to contain a lot of jibberish, now says clearly the sender’s name and/or email and the subject line of the message. I like!
Of course, it could be a problem with Yahoo, but since installing this building, I’ve noticed that I am being logged in and out a lot. Lots of “*** You have been disconnected” messages. I am logged into Astra, AIM, Hotmail, Gtalk, and Yahoo. All 24/7. Yahoo is the only one I’ve noticed this happening with. Has anybody else noticed this or just me?
June 26th, 2008 at 9:51 am
This building??? Ugh. I’m tired. Of course, I meant this “build.”
June 26th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
i dont like the new icons, i want the old ones back
June 26th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Funny – I didn’t realize the weather widget was a debate…. The weather widget is limited for my needs and since I don’t stare at Trillian all day, I find the browser plug-in along the status bar far less of a hog and fare more resourceful. The widget is prettier for sure but if you have ForecastFox for Firefox and the widget, watch both and see which updates quicker, more accurately and gives more useful information. What’s more, even if the browser is minimized, warnings pop up above the Sys-tray. If this WERE a debate, I win on functionality – but I’ll give you the prettiness factor.
LOL?
June 26th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
brams, the point is that suggesting other programs or plugins for other progams is not a valid helpful suggestion. It is that cut and dry.
If the widget is not performing as well as other weather programs / plugins then it just means it needs more work. It certainly is not final yet.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
8-0
June 27th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Nice to see a quick build, was thinking I would have to wait another month just to see another 100 bug fixes.
@nrg: Well you said yourself a thousand times, don’t depend on an alpha program for your primary needs. So I don’t there is anything wrong with bramscolnick providing another convenient alternative for the time being until bugs/performance issues are fixed. Besides, it shouldn’t matter what weather program anyone uses, because Astra is an IM program first before its anything else.
June 27th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
blueink … your right, but using the blog to make those suggestions is the part that isn’t “right”. Either way, if people have issues with ANY part of Astra they should bugzilla it and it should get fixed. That really is all there is to it. Alternative programs don’t help Astra get completed at all.
June 28th, 2008 at 3:30 am
I don’t really like the new ones look.
Would you please save original emoticons (which are so familiar for me since Trillian 0.73 back then in 2002) as secondary/alternative emoticons package?
Thanks for the great stable Astra anyway
June 28th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Alright, I think I finally figured out the problem with the Windows Live plugin causing Trillian to crash. If you happen to have this problem, and have the Good News plugin, try shutting off the Good News plugin, and the crash problem may disappear. Best of luck.
June 29th, 2008 at 5:57 am
Found something wrong – when you open the preferences, click Message Windows and try to switch the radio buttons under “When a new message window is created…”
June 29th, 2008 at 7:39 am
Yes =) I think, it IS a bug
June 29th, 2008 at 9:35 am
i really do not like the new emoticons. i have never seen better smileys than the classic trillian emoticons, especially the “:D”
but for the rest of all, thank you very much!!
June 30th, 2008 at 7:53 am
I agree with blueink.
I also find that Astra is crashing alot more. The only change I’ve made, which I just turned off, was the Word of the Day. I turned Windows Live back on and had no issues… turned the Word of the Day back on.. no issue.
June 30th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
MSN bug affecting me as well. “Connection to MSN has failed: invalid password. Click here to reset it.” I verified my password and tried to connect, with the same result.
When I click on the MSN mail notification icon, Trillian crashes.
June 30th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
With this build and the last couple I’ve had a weird problem of not being able to get rid of the contacts that I’ve put on my desktop with drag-n-drop. I put them out there to watch for when they came online next, but now…every time I click the “x” to remove it from my desktop it gets re-added when Trillian restarts and even when Trillian reconnects. Surely this is a bug…as I’m completely unable to remove them permanently. Anyone else seen this problem?
I shouldn’t have to manually edit any files to get them to stop appearing, but it looks like I may have to search through and edit some if it’s not fixed soon.
I’ll file a report later if I can’t find it in there already. If anyone knows that it’s already reported then just let me know. Other than that everything is working fine.
June 30th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Anyone having issues where you type.. but nothing shows up in your typing window for a few seconds? I’ve noted this in other builds. I have TONS of system memory and a high-end video card. I used to see similar typing delays in Outlook 2007 but I got rid of ALL Norton applications, switched to AVG 8. All good there now. Still seeing pauses in Astra and I don’t see them in Yahoo or AIM native clients… or anywhere else where I need to type.
June 30th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Love the new updates all! Have been very busy with work and finally got to upgrade my Astra!
So far all connections to MSN, AIM, ICQ, YIM are working flawlessly.
June 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Just FYI…installed the Jabber/XMPP plugin…set it up and it connected fine. If I set it to invisible it disconnects from the server. I have tested this 5 times…same result.
June 30th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
kyleabaker …. right now you likely have to edit buddies.xml to fix that, but yes it has been entered into bugzilla. Perhaps you could just right click the contact on your list and set up a notification instead? Your choice of course, I just think that makes more sense for wanting to know when someone comes online.
July 3rd, 2008 at 5:52 pm
…welcome at next level^^
Well, I must say : THX at first for a new build.
Auto-update was working well on VHP and XP SP3 both. No problems at all…
My MSN is -surprisingly- working since I got this build… and I am glad about it (just missing the failed messages^^).
BUT I have seen ‘first time ever’ !!! the ICQ system client several times online a short time before the new build came along… with the new build I still didn’t had them anymore again…
In general : it’s a stable build on both systems (XP Pro SP3 and VHP), i like the new emoticons but support the idea to implement the old icon-pack for customisation by each trillian-astra-user.
Edit to MSN : i see it right now – it doesn’t works perfect as expected (and already told) – missing the avatars, when the contact is away…
best regards, nayss
July 4th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
The ICQ system client? Are you talking about that being a contact on your list? That has nothing to do with Trillian. AOL decided to spam everyones ICQ lists with that junk. Just delete it.
July 7th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Update ran great. No issues so far.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
How about adding this emotion to Yahoo? >:D<
Feature request: when I click the icon to select an emotion, why does it show me emotions for all the IM protocols? It should only show ones that work with the protocol being used…
January 20th, 2010 at 10:38 am
I’ve just upgraded and have lost all my previous settings. this is VERY VERY FRUSTRATING and DISRUPTIVE. I view this upgrade with nothing but contempt and regret.
