Build 82: Fixes and such.
Build 82 is now available with Even More Bugfixes! We’ve also beefed up some of the privacy settings related to the AIM and ICQ plugins. You can now globally control your outbound typing indicators, and we’ve exposed a new optional notification for when your contacts start typing you a message before a message window is created.
Special note: As of this build, users of AIM and ICQ will need to enable the OSCAR plugin to continue enjoying these wonderful services!
Enjoy the build.

Great, thx
July 8th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Well, so far, I noticed that my jabber connection won’t connect. All others seem good. I’ve yet to try the new AIM/ICQ features. But Thanks for the bug fixes.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
thanks, will test it now
July 8th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
So far so good…
Too bad the aliases for AIM didn’t stick. Probably because of the new OSCAR plugin. Grr.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
=/ Now I have to re-rename all my contacts.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
So far, so good. Thanks!
July 8th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Cool, love the new features. Just wish my meta contacts weren’t broke apart.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I’m a little disappointed to see that all the changes I made to the names displayed in my list are gone now. Could you make a note about this, particularly if there is some setting that is relevant or easy way to retrieve the names without having to go back in and rename them all?
July 8th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
whenever I try to get to the settings of my MSN identity, my trillian crashes. i can’t find a way into the settings. good for me i do not have to change a thing at the moment.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
This build seams to be buggy as hell. My buddylist is screwed and Secure IM is not working anymore. crashed twice without any message… hope there will be a fix soon
July 8th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I lost all the “re-names” after this update. Get hundreds of stupid nicknames or ICQ ID’s that mean nothing to me
July 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
hm, instead of “xyz signed off” ore “xyz: hi there” there is only alertSignedOff (or something like that) and alertMessagePrivate. Also my username is displayed wrong: “Pbaer” instead of “Erdbaer”!?!
July 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
have the same problem with the display names…
and my own nickname on ICQ-Chatwindows isn’t shown correctly. It’s always something like “k299: “.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
xxaaqq my list updated automatically, too. On start all online contacts were numbers, then they changed to the actual contact name, not the ones they had in my old list.
Will they be updated in next version?
I noticed that some translations don’t work anymore. I’m from Germany and on ICQ most of the translations don’t work and there’s just the old “Unknown Translation”. Sadly, because on further versions it worked
But didn’t find any bugs until now, good build
July 8th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
It lost all of my contact nicknames for AIM?!?!?! I always rename obscure screen names like fzone429 to their actual names … how am I supposed to remember which contact is which?
July 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
For those concerned about the lost nicknames:
You can still find the pre-install nickname in your history. So we can go through and change the names one by one
very tedious!!
July 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
It would seem to me that a lot of users out there are going to be AIM users who would appreciate it if OSCAR was enabled by default.
July 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
What the heck is oscar?
July 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
IDC about lost stuff. this is a beta and IM PROUD to be a part of it. I like the new features!
Good job Devs! Keep up the good work!
July 8th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Well just a lil update, on a messagewindow my icqnick isn’t shown anymore, there’s just a “(”
Next thing is that when a contact hasn’t a pictuce, you don’t see who’s typing when you enabled the typing notification. And there aren’t any translations for the alerts. It just says alertTyping
Good idea, but with some bad side-effect
July 8th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
when i click on typing notification, message to unknown contact is opened, insteda to person that is typing
July 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
The re-names in the contact list are gone, but when a notification regarding a friend pops up it has the correct re-name.
Any ideas on an easy fix?
July 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Ok the “xyz signed off”-thing was just a problem with a language pack, in english it works.
Buuuuut: instead of my name, there is “[21:10] Display name::” (yes, with two colons)
Aaaand: The mouse-over thing with information about the contact appears on my other screen, about the same height… (I use the cordonata skin)
July 8th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Okay, resetting nick names is no big deal, but not being able to log on to MSN is! Also, the contact info flyout on hover is in the wrong place again. I have Astra docked in the upper right of my secondary monitor which is on the left. The flyout appears on the upper right of my primary monitor on the right.
July 8th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
btw i noticed that every icq-connection is set now to “Forcefully ignore all incominc authorization requests”
and it crashes when i wanna change msn-settings as mentioned above
July 8th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
whenever it groups ims together i cannot switch between convos why is that?
July 8th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
jabber plugin is not working anymore. i am not able to connect. the only error message i got is “[22:12] *** You have been disconnected.”
July 8th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
thanx for the update. I am also having the issue of trillian crashing when i click on the settings tab for any of my identities.
July 8th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
hi @ all,
well, reporting actions with Win XP Prof SP3 RC2 (v3311) for now… :
…downloading update, installing files and restart without problems.
Had to activate Bonjour plugin, IRC plugin (using the manually added IRC plugin v3.0 by Cerulean Studios), OSCAR plugin and also XMPP plugin after restart.
I am missing ICQ and AIM plugins, does they are attached / included at OSCAR plugin ? Haven’t read about that…
But AIM and ICW are working fine, after all I have seen now…
One ‘funny’ thing after installing the new update : I am using grafic card with 2 connected monitors (DVI and VGA) -> They are used as one screen (not two screens with the same picture). The Trillian Astra bar is displayed at right screen at right side. When I use mouse to see details about any contact, the detail’s window is displayed at correct size and at correct place – but only at the wrong screen, so it is at the left screen, just one monitor to the left… Does it is a bug I have to report at bugzilla ? I am not sure for the moment…
Will use my notebook at next (running VHP) to update my Trillian Astra now soon…
so long,
best regards, nayss
July 8th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
EDIT
My Jabber / XMPP is also not correct working, did a check with a friend… following situation :
I don’t see any jabber contact online, all are off.
But they can see me, if they start a conversation with me, then the conversation is working as usual.
The plugin manager of trillian also shows status : Connected.
Similiar with GoogleTalk : Manager says Connected, at Preferences -> Plugins I also can’t see the GoogleTalk plugin.
I can’t check situation here, because I have no GT-contacts…
At Preferences -> plugins I only see : Bonjour, IRC (3.0), MySpace, OSCAR, WLM (MSN), Jabber / XMPP and Yahoo.
At conversation Windows my own name is also displayed not correct. Instead of ‘nayss’ I have different hyroglyphs…:
[22:39] @~s: but i’m seeing nobody…
[22:40] @~s: is bad, but i’m visible to u ?
[22:32] Ps: mhmm, delicious^^
…all these signs should be displayed as me ( = nayss) …, seems, they are not depending from any service, had this with AIM, ICQ and also JABBER…
nayss
Regards, nayss
July 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Also Problems with own nicknames and the alerts on my PC…
Please fix it soon… I’m sure you’re working already on it!
July 8th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
The most bug annoying build ever … this time i’ll spend in bugzilla longer
July 8th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Put your bugs in the friggin bug tracker, or post in the forums. Comments aren’t the place for bugs.
Renaming is trivial. Glad to be working on a newer build, disappointed that I lost some things but happier overall. Good work guys, keep on truckin!
July 8th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
MSN still will not connect in build 82. This problem began with build 81. I’m thinking happy thoughts for build 83.
July 8th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Oh aside from all of the new bugs, please don’t forget about Bug 4122 – Trillian doesn’t detect disconnection consistently
It’s still a problem and still just as frustrating.
July 8th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Before build no email now I have email thanks.Seems to be working fine for me. Want to say thanks for all the hard work. Can’t wait to see what will be next.
July 8th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Enabled OSCAR and now AIM will not connect either. Uninstalled Trillian with Revo Uninstaller, rebooted, downloaded latest build, reinstalled Trillian.
Same problems. Cannot connect to either MSN or AIM. Clicking on the little mail icons kills Trillian. I go into connection manager to verify my settings. I click on “settings” for my MSN connection, and I get a “Runtime Error! Program:C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian.exe abnormal program termination”.
July 8th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Where did the name oscar come from? Why not call it AOL -(aim , icq)? Am I missing something?
July 8th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
via wikipedia:
OSCAR is AOL’s flagship instant messaging and presence information protocol standing for Open System for CommunicAtion in Realtime
July 8th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
learn something everyday
July 8th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Same problem as nayss.
Both of my computers have multiple monitors and the rollover info hovers on the primary monitor instead of the monitor that has my buddy list.
July 8th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Trillian completely crashes when clicking on settings for MSN (under My Contacts Identity).
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Trillian\trillian
abnormal program termination.
Also, crashes when trying upload/download files.
Also, crashes when trying to add a new friend/buddy.
This happens on a completely clean installation with a new profile.
It seems more and more things cause it to crash with each new build.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
WHERE DID THE AIM PLUGIN GO?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
July 8th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Ok, so I found the thing called “OSCAR”. Everything installed and I wasn’t even going to read the blog post tonight because I just needed to log in to talk to some people. You shouldn’t change things so drastically and THEN explain them to people.
July 9th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Crash when opening WLM settings confirmed. Bug report filed: http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6077
Also, it appears that my Trillian Mini and Astra profile have not updated in… *checks* 104 days. Is this just happening to me?
July 9th, 2008 at 12:42 am
all working ok but for one thing I keep getting requests for me to ad a contact, have done so but the same 2 keep reoccurring each time I log into Astra. Why?
July 9th, 2008 at 8:01 am
nicknames are erased and none of the connections or preferences are saved.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:14 am
This apparently broke Jabber conferences for me.
Now if I try to join a jabber conference it crashes trillian. Also, if I delete my ICQ/AOL accounts and try to create the OSCAR ones if I close/re-open it the ICQ/AOL Accounts I nuked came back
July 9th, 2008 at 9:19 am
ICQ stopped working after update from 81 to 82. I tried doing a clean install of build 82, same thing. I tried doing a clean install of 81, ICQ was/is still dead. I’m getting an EM that my pw is wrong, even though it wasn’t until I tried build 82. :’(
July 9th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Apart from the mouse-overs displayed on the wrong monitor, I also have the problem that contacts who sign off ( I get the popup that the contact has signed off) remain as online in the contact list, show as off line in any open chat windows. this happens for all plugins I use (OSCAR, Yahoo, MSN)
They are shown online in the contact list until I do a global disconnect and reconnect.
Also when Astra updated itself, all the “last seen … ago” entries of all my contacts were reset to the time of the Astra update, even for contacts who haven’t been online in weeks. All my offline contacts on all systems (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo) were listed as last seen 3 minutes ago when I checked my contact list after the update.
July 9th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Hogcall … they did tell you first, the day you agreed to use Alpha software.
diam0nd … enter just the first 8 characters of your ICQ password. The native client only allows 8, Trillian used to ignore anything past 8, seems that has changed now.
July 9th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
the msn keep crashing on the new astra build. when the new update coming an fixs the webcam for msn also
July 9th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
This build is terrible. Everything works like a charme untill I close down Trillian and want to start it again. Everytime it forgets my accounts and I have to enter them again every single time. And doing that on 5 IM’s services, it get’s quite annoying. So now I cannot use Trillian Astra so hopefully the new build comes quickly.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
- all saved nicknames are erased
- nickname in chatwindow is not ok
- there are some bugs inside
- how can i stop auto-update to turn back to build 81 ?
July 9th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
One ‘funny’ thing after installing the new update : I am using grafic card with 2 connected monitors (DVI and VGA) -> They are used as one screen (not two screens with the same picture). The Trillian Astra bar is displayed at right screen at right side. When I use mouse to see details about any contact, the detail’s window is displayed at correct size and at correct place – but only at the wrong screen, so it is at the left screen, just one monitor to the left… Does it is a bug I have to report at bugzilla ? I am not sure for the moment…
this same thing happened to me on my laptop (secondary), monitor (primary)
July 9th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Has anyone figured out the trick to getting MSN to work in this build? Thanks
July 9th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
[...] a new Trillian Astra build was released. This time around it’s mainly just a piss load of bug fixes, though they did muck with the [...]
July 9th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
LCS plugin isn’t supported
July 9th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
My bad, I forgot to download the latest version, it does work.
July 10th, 2008 at 5:17 am
If you want to fix your nickname as displayed in AIM/ICQ message windows, just edit your Astra nickname and then change it back again. That seems to fix it.
July 10th, 2008 at 5:20 am
I’d also like to add that it’s VERY stupid that the Oscar plugin is disabled by default when the AIM/ICQ plugin was previously enabled. I know this is Alpha software but this 5 minute fix would have saved a lot of people a lot of time and confusion. It should also be renamed to “AIM/ICQ (OSCAR)” – the name of the protocol is not even remotely important to *users*. They’re more interested in the familiar name of the messaging platform. That is apparent from many comments above.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
when do we get all the plugins and “use-ability” that Digsby has?
July 10th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
nayss … GoogleTalk uses the XXMP plugin, so that is why you can’t find a Google plugin anymore.
The name Oscar is fine as long as it states what it is used for in the description, which it does. It is the correct name for a plugin that does just that “uses the oscar protocol”. The comments above about users being confused and or mad are simply because they don’t read first.
As far as it being turned on automatically, that is not possible. Trillian loads the plugins you have listed in your plugins.ini file and set to a 1 flag. If they wanted to make plugins autoload they would have to completely disregard what plugins you have enabled and overwrite that file. This would mean every user would have every plugin they have ever downloaded suddenly enabled. Not a good idea. It is not that hard to turn a plugin on. Plus this plugin renaming/merging has only happened 2 times in how many years? I think it will be ok.
reefguysurf … as soon as we give up on all the customization that Trillian offers. Why not be a little bit more specific?
July 11th, 2008 at 2:47 am
@ DiamondNRG
Thx for informations about GoogleTalk.
Will test tomorrow how does it works on my notebook running Vista HP…
Regards nayss
July 11th, 2008 at 7:03 am
Hi, can anybody tell me where I can to download Astra to try it?
And how many time will stay Astra in “invite-only alpha testing phase” ??
Thanks.
July 11th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
daimond….my apoligies for not pointing to certain details. i guess im referring to the social networking and email capabilities, im basically looking forward to facebook chat. i know good things take time but their have been many apps ahead of the curve on the social networking front.
July 11th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
webwis, if you filled out the form at http://www.trillianastra.com/ then you have done all you can do. Astra will stay invite only until the Beta is ready. There is no known date for that.
July 11th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
reefguysurf, you can try out the Facebook plugin BSOD2600 made for Trillian. It isn’t complete yet but it does work.
Cerulean also is working on making their own included Facebook plugin. I suspect this won’t show up until 4.1 (likely a few months after 4.0) though.
July 12th, 2008 at 6:23 am
DiamondNRG:
DDD Thanks so much!
Dude, you rock my world!!! It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 12th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Anytime
July 13th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Too bad I couldn’t test b82 for more than 5min, kept erasing all my connections on each startup and messing up the popup notifications that had no text in them. Back to b81 for now.
@nrg: funny you even mentioned v4.1 when 4.0 isn’t even close to being complete….and the waiting continues
July 13th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Before this build (or maybe the last), after I had “blocked” someone (on AIM anyway), Astra did not show them in the buddy list. This has now changed. Is there an option somewhere so I can choose not to see those people in my buddy list? (other than deleting them?) Just curious.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
@DiamondNRG regarding turning OSCAR on automatically…
It could easily be programmed to check if AIM or ICQ was enabled before and if it was – it wouldn’t have to erase the entire file and replace it with all new information. It could be programmed just to change the OSCAR pluggin and leave all the other settings the same.
July 14th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
blueink … how are you stopping build81 from auto-updating?
And yes 4.1 is planned, and according to my conversations with the developers will be a project of a “few months” scale.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I (and many others) cannot log on to http://www.trillianastra.com (or http://www.trillian.im) — I have been able to successfully log on one time, and I feel like i figured it out because of something someone said on this forum. If ANYONE knows how to log on to the web client — or is able to log on to the web client, please reply with any hints. Since we are unable to change our trillian password, I am certain that my credentials are correct.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Is anyone else experiencing a problem with your contact list, where you can not send a message to some people because the option is not available?
July 15th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Nice build…NOT.
Besides the problems above, the “last seen” now actually displays the time I logged in for all contacts. I mean, all contacts show as last seen exactly the moment I logged it.
July 15th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Alexandrus I noticed the same problem today. When I move my cursor about a contact it says “Last seen on: time I logged in” even th contact wasn’t even online.
July 15th, 2008 at 11:43 am
this is nice build
but whit bugs
please compatible status whit status managers plug-ins as TrilliWamp v. 1.7.4 .
status just change in program ! and not changed
July 15th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Alexandrus and B0XST3R … what medium(s) are you guys seeing this on? My online times are showing correctly for my contacts (I just checked a dozen or so).
Every build has its issues, it doesn’t mean it isn’t still progressing along.
July 15th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
DiamondNRG it happens on ICQ. Don’t know if this bug appears on other mediums. Appears on every contact that wasn’t online since i logged in.
July 17th, 2008 at 1:21 am
I have the same issue with all the mediums i use.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:06 am
I also have the problem that Astra sometimes crashes if i want to add a new contact
Happens just some times, not always.
July 17th, 2008 at 11:49 am
I’ve been able to use MSN with build 82 up ’til today. When I attempted to connect this morning, nothing happened. The connection is marked as being online but no-one sees me and I see nobody online. This is the case for both my work and my home internet connection. Up until this build I never experienced problems with MSN
July 17th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Blizz, it is a new bug caused by some MSN changes. It has been entered in bugzilla already and Scott has already marked it as fixed for build 83. So until that comes out, MSN will not work in build 82.
July 17th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Thanks. Normally I check BZ first but since I was able to connect with this build initially I didn’t do that this time. Anyway, hop to build 83 I guess
July 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I also am having issues with msn. The problem just started today, when logging in it says that msn is connected yet all my contacts say Orphaned.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
*snifs* same here. since today i got authorization messages from everyone having me on the contact list and everyone on my contact list in MSN is orphaned now :-/
July 17th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
The strange thing is that despite not showing any contacts online for MSN it does sign you out of the regular live client. So it does connect, just seems as if it can’t complete the sequence.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Yeah it is a pretty serious issue. Seems to affect some 3.1 installs as well (but not all???) that part makes no sense, unless 3.1 is having a different yet mistakenly similar issue right now as well.
Hopefully 83 will roll out this week and everyone will be fixed up
July 18th, 2008 at 12:01 am
I’m not sure if this is a bug.
Preferences -> Identities & Connections -> My Trillian Astra Account -> Settings -> Miscellaneous
Once I’m at that specific area, It only shows “Loading…” and nothing else. Waiting for it to change doesn’t make a difference.
July 18th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Sorry for the late reply, nrg. Basically in the “installation & startup” section of trillian preferences, there are options for “check for beta versions of trillian” and “alert me when important trillian news is available”. I just unchecked those and it is not auto-updating anymore. However, everytime I startup trillian, I still get that taskbar notification that says there is newer build available. Simply, clicking the X on the popup makes it go away as usual.
July 18th, 2008 at 10:17 am
There are some bugs in the OSCAR plugin. I always have to change my nick cause it changes it automatically to some strange names at startup.
July 18th, 2008 at 10:40 am
Does it let you actually connect to the Astra medium itself (and can you send and receive messages?) with the older build?
July 20th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Hi @ all,
well, updated Trillian on VHP done rxcellent – but problems same as in XP…
Now I got Build 83… we will see…
Best Regards,
nayss
