Build 102.
Build 102 is now available. As some of you have noticed, we’ve been adding a large number of new testers to the beta team this week. We wanted to take a minute to welcome all of the new testers and briefly explain how the build process works!
Today’s release of Build 102 follows our typical release schedule:
- Internal milestones for a build are met, and the team packages up the next build for testers.
- Testers begin receiving the build via automatic update over the course of the next few days. Not everyone will receive the build at the same time!
Those of you with Trillian Pro can enable the “Check for beta versions of Trillian” preference to receive the build at the earliest possible opportunity. As we have no final product yet, this preference currently functions as a way to divide “alpha” builds of a beta and “final” builds of a beta. Upon final release, this preference will divide 4.0 releases and subsequent betas of 4.1 and beyond.
Thanks for your support and we hope you enjoy the new build!
UPDATE: Build 103 has been released to address a regression issue with the Facebook plugin. Users of Facebook Chat will need to re-enter their passwords in preferences. Build 103 will be rolled out throughout the weekend.

April 10th, 2009 at 8:50 am
I’m in now. Had to restart.
Thanks for the build!
April 10th, 2009 at 8:53 am
nice update
April 10th, 2009 at 9:34 am
hmm actually my update doesn’t work well, it tryes to download, but it doesn’t load complete..
April 10th, 2009 at 9:35 am
works perfectly for me.
April 10th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Keep up the good work guys! Pretty smooth app thus far.
April 10th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Did not get the update notification, had to restart to get the update. Other than that all went well.
April 10th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Installed and working perfectly so far. Thanks for the invites. =]
April 10th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Restarted after an internal network issue. Things are going great since. Only question I have is if someone could PM me the invites link that popped up the other day.
April 10th, 2009 at 11:20 am
I don’t have Astra yet, but have Trillian Pro, but my preferences does not have the option to “Check for beta versions of Trillian”, at least anyplace that I could find. It has a box to “Check for Software Updates”. Am I missing something?
April 10th, 2009 at 11:21 am
Didn’t get the update notification, had to restart to get the update.
April 10th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Working great, thanks for invite
April 10th, 2009 at 11:45 am
craigsn

April 10th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
yey, thanks!
April 10th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
craigsn, go to http://www.trillian.im if you want Astra.
April 10th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Just got accepted to Astra a few days ago
updated today all went smoothly.
April 10th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
I’m a pro member, but i’m not getting update notifications, on startup or otherwise… I have the box checked to notify of beta versions of software… am I missing something?
April 10th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Also tried manually downloading the update, no luck there, still build 101
April 10th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Tried to download it with the link in the “beta test acceptation” mail
(I always like to keep a copy of the latest executable to be sure).
But the I got build 101 it seems (date stamp 30. mars 2009).
April 10th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
@PhoenixHawke — yup, same here. I’m not sure how we are expected to do clean installs now. I’ve always tried to do a clean install. Perhaps CS will update that link soon. Too bad there’s no way of knowing which build you are downloading without having to install it.
April 10th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
You don’t have to install it. Check the date on the signature, and compare with the previous build. Then you can see when the package was created (and if it is a new build).
But a better way would be including the version/build in the filename I think.
April 10th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
When will (or simply “will”) the Check for Updates menu item come back? Having to exit and reload to check for an update is frustrating. I regularly don’t reboot my computer for days or weeks, and updates (for the last several builds, at least) /will not/ prompt you unless you reload Astra.
April 10th, 2009 at 5:22 pm
i tried to rephrase my exasperation with the state of affairs to a more neutral manner and the best i could do was come up with nothing. sigh, i hate hating trillian.
April 10th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
@Paradise: I disagree with you whole-heartedly… but the way you said that was hilarious
April 10th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
I cant even log in anymore. It’s saying my version is outdated. this blows >:-O
April 10th, 2009 at 11:20 pm
darkbegins: Try again, your login was caught in an update-related restart.
April 10th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
same goes for me, I cannot download the 102 release and it will not auto-update. Check for beta is enabled also. I tried unchecking it and closing the app and then restarting but for some strange reason it completely locked me out. I was in a panic trying to get in… and I am still not sure how I got it. Anyway update is not working here.
April 11th, 2009 at 12:01 am
build 103 installed nicely after a restart…Thanks C.S.
April 11th, 2009 at 12:09 am
103 updated and logged in fine…. thanks
April 11th, 2009 at 12:10 am

April 11th, 2009 at 12:58 am
build 103 installed nicely, when the program start. Works good, thanks.
April 11th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Just installed 103. Looks good so far. Wish getting people signed up from the invites could get me a trial of pro.
o well back to programming.
April 11th, 2009 at 1:38 am
updated and signed in and working fine for me here. keep up the good work.
April 11th, 2009 at 2:07 am
perfect here too! installed without any troubles – fast and easy
…
April 11th, 2009 at 9:49 am
just updated to build 103. all clean on my side =]
April 11th, 2009 at 10:05 am
I personally haven’t experienced any problems. Had a little trouble getting Facebook chat working again, but that was likely due to the fact that I put in the wrong password.
Good work on this.
April 11th, 2009 at 11:34 am
A Linkedin plugin would be great!
And if the twitter and Facebook plugins are improved Trillian would be the killer app for social media…
April 11th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
so far so good ^_^
April 11th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Mine just closed (like 101) without notice (windows closed, tray icon disappeared when I moved the mouse over it). No error message. How do one debug a thing like that?
Also noticed that the Facebook Chat password was blanked out (not the e-mail though)
April 11th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Am I the only one with a red flag going off when I see a link to :
http://cheatingnetwork.net/forums/sell-trade-forum/26854-invites-trillian-astra.html#post308738
April 11th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Works perfectly, but when clicking on Yahoo! Mail, I get a 404 error. If you remove a period after a question mark in part of the URL, it works fine.
April 11th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Updated without any problem but after login lost some yahoo emails that I had in old build.
April 12th, 2009 at 5:13 am
tried adding some new skins in the trillian astra skin subdir but they don’t show up. only cobalt and cordonata…. don’t know what’s wrong. already rebooted both PC and astra.
April 12th, 2009 at 8:56 am
hi @ all
this is reply for build 103 of trillian astra
have found one thing, that should be fixed somewhen (not urgent) :
when i use ‘icq group conversation’ i see all my contacts only by number, not by name – so it is difficult to choose the right one i’d like to chat with…
i also cannot rename the contact’s name, i already tried to solve the problem in that way. no option available for that.
but, after view builds i can say, icq group conversation is working now proper. using it sometimes at / for work.
thanks for the good work !
greetinx from moscow…

April 12th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
got the update for 103 and since then it has crashed on me anywhere from every 5 minutes to i think the longest is about 30 minutes. is anyone else having this problem?
and now i cannot connect to the astra network after reinstalling and updating
April 12th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
After I installed build 103 trillian astra will only log on in offline mode
April 13th, 2009 at 2:46 am
After updaging to 103, I can not open a jabber conference, both commands join conference and browse for conference do nothing
April 13th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Im having problems with Yahoo, not able to login. Is there a compatibility update for that?
April 13th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
beta build 103 is running very well. However, I don’t understand why I cannot stay signed-in when I am not signed in to the actual skype program. I hope this will be fixed by the final release. Thank you.
April 14th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
looks fine but i can’t recive messages from user who use icq2003b. could this be fixed ?
April 14th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
tried the new astra. impressed. however i will stick with digsby for the following reasons.
- FREE – you cannot expect people to pay $25 for a chat client. just no. digsby does everything and does it free.
- separation of mail and IM accounts. i may want to check mail for a completely different set of yahoo accounts. this seems unclear in astra. i dont want an im login for it.
- separation of social feeds. i want all my feeds – facebook, linkedin, myspace, twitter separated out. everyone wants it like that. do it.
with these i will gladly return to astra. till then no.
April 14th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
@a9l8e7n … The plugin in Astra only controls your Skype installation. It is not possible to connect to Skype’s network with ANY other client. So it will not be “fixed” as it is not broken. Just minimize Skype and ignore it.
@k.electron … Your points may have some validity (although they are years late to the game) but Trillian Astra does more than Digsby and always will, so you can’t say that you can get everything for free. Your point about the mail accounts is valid and is a current feature request. Your point about social feeds being separate may be valid for you but you simply can not say “everyone wants it like that, do it” I certainly don’t want that, so optional is all it should be. Not everyone wants to be hassled with seeing networks and mediums and user names and such, I just want to see information about my contacts, I care not where it came from or what network I am talking to them on. Please don’t make assumptions about what the rest of us want.
April 15th, 2009 at 8:23 am
@DiamondNRG
- you are completely right about the social feeds point sir. im sorry to have made an outrageous statement saying everyone wants it and i take it back. however i would like to leave that as a suggestion for atleast having the option of doing that for people like me who do. i really like everything separated out so i know exactly what im upto.
- im glad to hear separating mail accounts is a feature request that will be attended to some time in the future.
- i will not deny that digsby is a new player in the game. however it has made great progress. not to undermine anything that trillian has done, trillian certainly is the one that started it all. however after all its a multi IM client. there is only so much it can do, and when there are very challenging competitors offering very similar service for free, many customers like me do think about those few bucks over the polish and the ever so random memory leak.
however i would say one thing. if trillian had a windows mobile version with the same account integration and ability to sync accounts and preferences over the desktop and the winMo version, i would totally fork over $25 for it.
keep it up guys. im sure u will match up to the competition out there.
April 15th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Can you someone send me please an invitation for Trillian Astra? Email: jan.mikula(at)hotmail.com. Thanks
April 15th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
@joshhaus: Doesn’t look like anybody’s responded to your post. I was experiencing that problem with build 101; build 103 is stable for me. See bug 8219 to see if it’s similar to your issue; you can re-open it if you think you’re experiencing the same problem
April 15th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
@Lars-Erik: I like the idea of adding the build number to the filename; however if they were to do that now they’d have to send an updated download link to all of us because as it stands now the link points directly to the file. And to keep it simple they’d have to develop a webpage and maintain a link there… granted, not too difficult but also a drain on time that I’d rather they use to get this to production
April 15th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
@DiamondNRG: I cannot do skype video through trillian. Is that normal?
April 15th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
I was just brought into the beta test for astra and I like it so far, pretty stable =D
April 16th, 2009 at 7:57 am
@PhoenixHawke: They have allready added the build to the filename.
The download link does not have the file name in it, only the token:
(of course I have faked the token number here not to give away mine
When I go to that link I get a “You have chosen to open trillian-v4-0-0-103-exe”
Thank you for fixing this so fast CS !!!
April 16th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
@PhoenixHawke: The word you’re looking for is “schadenfreude”.
April 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
@Paradise: I love that word
April 16th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
in the last days my trillian starts crashing when it tries to open messages i received when i was offline. unfortunately i cannot say what plugin causes this crash because it closes before i can see whose name appears in the window who sent me a message…
April 16th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
@Lars-Erik – I wasn’t aware of that. I’ve been an alpha tester since before they started using token-style authentication, so they must be supporting both download methods
April 16th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
I am getting the craziest crash bug. Everytime I try to play this one mp3 with Winamp, it crashes Trillian Astra. Just way ODD! heh … not only that, if I am playing this mp3 in Winamp and try to Start Trillian Astra, it crashes on load up.
April 16th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
jesusfreak: Can you get the MP3 to us through Bugzilla, the forums, or email to support? We can check it out if so.
April 16th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
How do I get to Bugzilla … I tried to log in with my username and password on the Trillian Astra bug forum but am always failing. How can I send it via email?
Also I figured out how to fix it. I used mp3tag editor to update the mp3 metadata tag info for the mp3 and now TA doesn’t crash anymore. Weird though that Winamp and this mp3 have nothing to do with Trillian.
April 16th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
I don’t want to be rude, but are these upcoming builds the last few builds before the final release, or is it uncertain?
April 16th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
jesusfreak: the way to bugzilla should have been included in your astra invite email.
a9l8e7n: seems like astra is moving towards a final build yet it is uncertain.
April 17th, 2009 at 12:28 am
jesusfreak: the way to bugzilla should have been included in your astra invite email.
Edit: Forgot to mention…you have to have your own bugzilla account too, so signup at bugzilla then use the astra beta bugzilla link to file bugs
April 17th, 2009 at 1:58 am
I’m so glad I can finally test Trillian Astra.
Been waiting for two years now and finally I’m in.
Thanks so far guys. For me everything works fine. ^.^
I’ll definitely get the Pro-version once my trial period runs out.
April 17th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
I installed astra on my laptop after gaining my beta invite, however in 30 days, lets say its still in beta, I’d much rather wait to pay for the full client, then pay for a beta, right? Is there a way to keep the pro version until the beta is over? Or do I really have to put up with the free astra for testing until then?
April 18th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Same here, i been waiting so long, i just decided i might as well just use the beta. the good thing about it is it runs very smoothly, and i haven’t had any major problems for it.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
continuous changing theme color crashes the application. i am using windows vista home premium
April 19th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
So far, I love the build and Astra as a whole with no real problems, but the one thing that I miss between Trillian 3 and Astra is the ability to alter the display name for Live Messenger.
April 20th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Oh no! I finally got a Beta invite, but it went into my spam folder, and I didn’t see it until after I’d hit delete, with no way to recover. Can I get another without signing up again?
April 21st, 2009 at 1:20 am
I am getting crashing on idle… Here is the dump
Faulting application trillian.exe, version 4.0.0.103, faulting module core.dll, version 4.0.0.103, fault address 0×0000c350.
I did open a bug report too.
April 25th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Marni – it is in the preferences for that connection on the last tab. Works just fine.
Christian – sign up again.
