Trillian for Windows 4.0 Build 118, iPhone status update.
Build 118 has been released to fix a few bugs with Facebook and IRC. If you’ve been having a problem getting Facebook Chat to connect lately, you should install this update and try again. This is an optional update, meaning you won’t need to install it if you’re not impacted by the particular bugs we’ve fixed. In other news:
- Trillian for Windows 4.1 is coming along nicely, and we hope to have more detailed information to share with everyone soon. After getting 4.0 out the door, we’ve been working hard on cool new enhancements, UI improvements, and implementing as many community feature requests as we can! Look for 4.1 to improve many different aspects of your current Trillian experience.
- Trillian for iPhone was submitted to the App Store on August 14th, the same day we released Trillian Astra 4.0. We haven’t been accepted or rejected yet and are patiently awaiting a response from Apple. Should the app be rejected, we’ll update the blog and explain what we’re doing to address any problems Apple’s reviewers uncovered. In the meantime, we’re in the dark and keeping our fingers crossed.
- Trillian 3.1.14.0 is being slowly rolled out to 3.x customers this week. It features upgrades to the Yahoo! engine to ensure protocol compatibility with Yahoo!’s latest servers. We recommend that 3.x customers capable of doing so upgrade to the 4.x series as soon as possible; as a rule, the protocol engines within 4.x will always be the most reliable and up-to-date.
Thanks for your interest and support!

Thanks a lot for the hard work. I’m very much looking forward to 4.1, mainly because of potential bugfixes though. Can’t wait. Keep it up, everyone!
September 15th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Awesome work guys… Glad to know the iPhone app is done too… I actually just found out my whole company might be switching over to AT&T soon…
September 15th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Hope the sms to 10 digit phones will be implemented.
Cheers
September 15th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Great! Just installed the update.
Are there any details on pricing for the iPhone app out yet?
September 15th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I’m really praying that the App is coming soon
September 15th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
It’s great to see that 3.x updates are still being done. It shows so much commitment on the part of the developers, commitment to the customers and people using the software. Thanks for your work! Here is hoping the app store doesn’t reject Trillian for the iPhone!
September 15th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Anyone have issues with Facebook users being duplicated upon shutdown/restart of Build 118?
September 15th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
@ymca … it already works, just use +1 in front of the 10 digit number as an AIM or ICQ contact.
September 15th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
So, is this updated version 118 for Windows? I ask because I am still using version 117 and I have not received any updating actions or I am unable to find any means in updating manually.
Thanks
September 15th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
sweet .. keep it up!
September 15th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Are their plans for Astra on Blackberry?
September 15th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
rogerg2: Are you a pro user or basic? It may take a few more days to notify basic users… (if it works like previous builds)… Also you can go to the “Help” menu at the top of your contact list and see if it lists an update available.

September 15th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
I got it! I had to reload it.
September 15th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Sounds good. I hope i can get invited back into the 4.1 testing
I wonder if there will be a “Black Friday” deal for Trillian Pro (yes I’m that cheap normally).
September 15th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
invited back for the 4.1 testing*
September 15th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Here’s an issue I’d like to address. MetaContact locations don’t sync to actual IM client locations. For example, if I have an AIM contact in my “Recent Buddies” folder, and I create a MetaContact with that person, and then later move that MetaContact to my “Contacts” folder, if I ever sign into regular AIM, it will appear as if the person never moved from the Recent Buddies folder. Please fix this ASAP, I love Trillian, and I will continue to support it
September 15th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Forget about the icrap, palm pre is much better.
September 15th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Is anyone here an iPhone beta tester? Just wondering how that app was looking? Thanks!
September 15th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
I am waiting for the MAC version. Someday I will have an iphone, but not for 6 mouths.
September 15th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
As was noted on the forums, we’re not ruling out any other mobile versions, but the iPhone one was pretty straightforward because it could use the same core as the upcoming OS X version. (Atop of which Scott, Kevin, Andy, Glenn and I all have iPhones as our primary phones, so it was more immediately useful to /us/ specifically.)
Blackberry, Android, Palm webOS, Windows Mobile… those are all still possibilities, but all would require clean rewrites client-side and so are a much larger task to undertake. Hence why iPhone, which could use the same core as OS X, is the first venture into mobile space for us.
September 15th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Well, until you do make one for PalmOS, I am stuck using MunduIM. I don’t want an iPhone, even though I could easily get one. I prefer my Treo 680.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
@ Raq … Trillian does not move contacts around on your AIM contact list… only on its own. Just do not load AIM and don’t worry about it… this has been broken for over 5 years… I’m sure someday it will be fixed, but its clearly not a priority issue.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
So will those of us professional users have to pay for the iphone client as well? If so what do you expect the iphone client to list for?
September 16th, 2009 at 12:48 am
@Rachel
How much is the iPhone version of Trillian going to cost, if you can reveal that? I’d like to buy a pre-paid card ahead of time just for the event of it unveiling on the AppStore
September 16th, 2009 at 2:00 am
Just updated to trillian astra 118– still the same facebook chat problem— here is an extract of my status window–
*** Logging into Facebook Chat…
*** Error: Please use the same Facebook account for chat and notifications log in.
September 16th, 2009 at 2:11 am
some iphone devs have to send emails to apple and pester them for any information they probably forgot about the app or person is sick or on vacation email them and ask what’s wrong.
September 16th, 2009 at 2:51 am
Nice but iPhones are still too expensive. I hope the MAC version will be available soon.

Makes perfect sense. Following that logic, however, might mean that we’ll see a Windows Mobile version sooner than the others, if I were to take a wild stab at the future there.
Curiosity point: would Win32 -> WM be along the same difficulty as OSX -> iPhone (or vice versa, in this case)? Not that I *have* a WM device, but it’d be interesting to see where Trillian goes to next.

@Rachel
If you guys are looking for Windows Mobile developers to help get the mobile side of things going, I would be willing to help. I am sure there are several others who would be interested in assisting with the respective mobile platform development.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Thx for the update looking forward to testing 4.1 soon
September 16th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Oh thank goodness. This fixes the bug I was experiencing, wherein the “show offline/online contacts for X seconds” actually happened for an infinite amount of time, regardless of what you put, even if it was toggled off. Giant pain, that was.
September 16th, 2009 at 11:45 am
@Multech… sounds like you need to use the same email and password eh?
September 16th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
thank you …. I am also interested in Trillian for the Blackberry!!
September 16th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
I am delighted with build 118 as it has fixed a problem I had with Skype. When I logged on to Trillian and it duly launched Skype, my entire Skype list in Notification Windows -over 150 people – would parade down the right hand side of my screen indicating that they were online and then immediately offline in pairs – except for the smaller number that were actually on line that showed only once!
Am curious to see a reference to being able to send SMS messages – must research how one does this.
September 16th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
First, I want to say that I am a Trillian-User since 2002 an it’s great what Cerulean Studios an the team has produced with Astra! I love it…
It’s nearly perfect so I’ve got only two points to get better:
- if I get a message from a Skype-User, two message-windows pop up. One from Skype an one from Trillian.
- some problems of file transfer between Skype an Trillian. I cannot confirm an incoming transfer from Skype in Trillian message window, only in Skype.
I know Astra is still in pre-release state, so you’ve got enough time to fix it.

Apple App Store Leaves Trillian Astra Hanging…
Last month when Cerulean Studios launched Trillian Astra, they also submitted Trillian for iPhone to the Apple App Store for approval. Fast forward thirty days and they are still waiting for a response from Apple.
……
September 16th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
@chl3k… Astra is not in pre-release , build 117 was the final and gold release for 4.0
118 is a maintenance update.
Regarding your 2 chat windows, you just need to enable skype silent mode… there is tons of info on this in the forums. You do this from the skype icon on the bottom of your astra contact list, there is a menu that comes up.
And regarding confirming file transfers, the skype API does not seem to send that information to Trillian, so its not a bug, rather just a stupid thing that Skype didn’t provide to clients wanting to control it.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Despite what some might think, Win32 -> Windows Mobile would not be as straightforward as OS X -> iPhone, no. Largely because OS X was written from the beginning to support multiple ‘controllers’ (native, Octopus, etc.) where Win32 does not have a swappable ‘controller’ architecture.
Even though the OS X version’s design began before we started work on the iPhone version, I had done swappable controllers to be able to test UI on a ‘Dummy’ controller, so that when the Astra protocol was changing I wasn’t locked out by needing to recompile core/astra on OS X. That proved serendipitous as I discovered I was able to just define a new ‘Octopus’ controller and compile with the same session, conversation and so on core code.
As background, the CocoaCore stuff for OS X and iPhone just turns Trillian into things like TrillianSession, TrillianConversation, TrillianContact and so on all in Objective-C, with those objects dealt with by a controller (DummyTrillianController, NativeTrillianController or OctopusTrillianController). So the iPhone version needed new UI, but could keep that same core.
WM would be more involved, and pretty close to a clean rewrite like the others.
September 16th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
I see the below status messages for Facebook, but the chat still doesn’t work (it used to a couple versions back):
[09/16/2009 19:26:27] *** Creating connection “”.
[09/16/2009 19:26:27] *** Infinite session detected, validating…
[09/16/2009 19:26:28] *** You have successfully connected to FACEBOOK.

September 17th, 2009 at 3:36 am
@DiamondNRG
“sounds like you need to use the same email and password eh?”
hahaha—– that was exactly what I did— still the same error—
In fact I even copied and pasted the account name and password that I used in order to be sure…
September 17th, 2009 at 8:51 am
I obviously wrote too soon – Skype needed me to authorise the connection to the updated Trillian 118
If I could I would attach a screen shot of some of the 300 Notifications streaming down the right side of the screen – which are still at it as I write! – Any ideas Trillian people on how to avoid this happening?
September 17th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
@Multech, you need to use the email address you use for facebook in the chat section, not the account name.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Thank You…shame there is no news of the “MSN Offline Major Bug”
September 17th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
@DiamondNRG
Sorry,,, that’s what I meant— but it still doesn’t work…
besides, just as Hossy said— “the chat still doesn’t work (it used to a couple versions back)”
September 18th, 2009 at 2:53 am
@DiamondNRG
hmmm… just logged into trillian… seems facebook chat now works…. but i didn’t change anything… perhaps it was facebook chat that had problems and not trillian
September 19th, 2009 at 5:46 am
Great work guys!
There’s one feature I’d like you to add to Trillian IRC. Nick alert. Right now the program blinks when anyone says something on the channel, but I’d much prefer it if it only blinked when your nick is mentioned. Makes it easier to react to things said on the channel, and the program wont blink needlessly.
Otherwise I have no complaints about the program. Well done.
September 19th, 2009 at 7:47 am
ZaCU84, you can already create a nick alert by using the built in automation features to do a word match. The request you are really needing to make is the ability to NOT have group windows/private messages (should be separate) blink on the taskbar when new messages arrive.
September 22nd, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I hope 4.1 gets here soon as it is ‘coming along nicely’.
Two things that do bother me though:
1. The smileys that Trillian incorporates. Could those be any dryer? I would really love to see better smileys. The current ones are very small and so plain…
2. I’m not sure if this is a bug but when my friend sends me a message from Yahoo messenger on her mobile phone, the message never shows up on Trillian. Maybe you can try and recreate the problem and then address/fix it.
Other than that and of course only Trillian-to-Trillian audio, which I hate, Trillian is not bad.
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:01 am
I just got trillian and am unable to get voice to work does it even have voice?
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:38 am
Thanks for the update guys…Facebook was acting up bigtime…
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:55 am
@sa_bipolar_fdr1_sa … only astra to astra has voice right now. Astra and Yahoo have video.
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Kick messages in IRC are still only one word. :/
September 25th, 2009 at 5:11 am
Where is the “SMS support” – not help or info on how to do it. Total vaporware!!! WTF!
September 25th, 2009 at 10:39 am
I just wanted to say. This program was well worth the wait!! Amazing job on Astra. I have since deleted msn(with relief, ugh, msn..lame), and am joyfully enjoying being able to log into icq as well.
No invasive advertising, Skinning on a whim. I heart this Astra, ty ty ty. To everyone who was involved in the making of it. -bows lots-.
September 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Hey guys, any plan for the Palm Pre?
September 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Thanks!! Keep up the great work!!
September 26th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I can’t wait for the iPhone app! Keep up the great work, I love Trillian!
September 27th, 2009 at 7:02 am
nothing new about iphone version? no response from apple till now? oh it’s so long from submitting till now… I can’t wait
Can you please send me an email?
September 27th, 2009 at 9:53 am
posibile version for Simbyan??
September 28th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
No offense meant but are you sure you submitted the iPhone app properly, that is a VERY long time to wait for an update, the app store is typically running on a 2 week window before they update the application, you all have been waiting almost a month…may want to check into that
September 29th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Still having trouble with facebook chat:
[!] Error: facebook.batch.run: Facebook API: 1 (An unknown error occurred)
I do have a lot of friends, which I know was previously a problem but I assumed this update addressed that?
September 29th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Hi, I am using Trillian Astra 4.1 build 118 but i am having a major problem using Gtalk in it because i can’t call users through trillian for gtalk users. Can you tell me if there is a plugin available for this so that i can call gtalk users too.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:26 am
Best features by Trillian. Thanks for the team.
September 30th, 2009 at 8:04 am
Thanks for fixing the bugs concerning Yahoo!! Very shady move on their part.Triallian is the best!!
September 30th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
In the mean time can you publish the iphone app onto Cydia so we dont have to wait for apple?…. REALLY want to get this on my iphone 2 months ago.
September 30th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Any ‘listening to_ _ _ ” plugin coming soon?
Thanks!
October 2nd, 2009 at 7:34 am
It would be great to have a Blackberry version.
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:45 pm
I would like to suggest an option(?) to be online to few people as i select them and being offline to other people.
October 2nd, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Thanks but I can’t download 118. trillian gives an error “error while downloading update” and the one on download.com is 117…………………….
October 3rd, 2009 at 2:57 am
I just downloaded it today, and i LIKE IT A LOT!!!
October 3rd, 2009 at 8:03 am
Although running Astra on Doze – I cant get it to run under Wine or Crossover in Suse 11.1… so for now Im stuck with 3.x
October 4th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
@Abair … that would only work if the medium itself supported it, which I’m pretty sure none of them do.
@Kurt … delete the update.exe file and try again, your download got corrupted.
@Da weezil, it is called WINDOWS. Thank you.
October 5th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Nothing but trouble. Trillian won’t regularly connect to yahoo even after update, Trillian Pro will not install, Astra for windows is nothing but a hot mess, it won’t connect to anything, and Astra on the internet isn’t much better. Let’s just say there is more than enough disappointment for the money I have thrown away on your products.
October 5th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
When could we expect the Iphone app for public?
thx
October 5th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
A few things on my wish list.
1) Skype chat functionality without having skype open.
2) Steam chat functionality.
October 6th, 2009 at 2:27 am
Very pleased with your product so far, looking forward to more updates, but haven’t had any problems in the 4 months of use I’ve put into it.
@Michael Ward You need to learn to use a computer.
October 7th, 2009 at 6:53 am
Good JOb guys the software is very friendly for easy user but one think you have to fix is the connction time to general user i havet some probalms with that
October 7th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Great, I will be waiting for the iPhone app. I currently use Beejive on the iPhone. On my PC I just got rid of Live Messenger because Astra is awesome. If the iPhone app is someway similar to the PC version, I ‘ll get it.
October 10th, 2009 at 2:17 am
Trillian for me very important. I use for 5 years. The version I have is phenomenal 4.0 built 118,
Greetings from the Peru.
Gbu.
October 10th, 2009 at 5:30 am
hi trillian is the best from all messnegers.but there is one problem that it will expire in some days make it free for ever
October 10th, 2009 at 6:32 am
I personally can’t adjust to using Astra for the PC because I’m just “too used” to the simple and clean look of WLM, but I’m really excited for Trillian for iPhone.
I wish the thing would be approved already, it’s been what.. two entire months already?!
October 10th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Lets get the Trillian for Blackberry going!
October 10th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Time for an update for the Pre’ now.
October 13th, 2009 at 3:56 am
For the love of God, hasn’t Apple approved the app yet!? I check the app store multiple times a day, and still nothing!! It’s killing me!
October 13th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Please just release the iPhone app to a repository on Cydia. If Apple doesn’t know a good thing when they see it, screw em. We got screwed by getting excited about the meebo app previewed in the OS 3.0 keynoten that never came… and now they are sitting on this killer app, probably trying to steal ideas from it. Us jailbreakers could be using your amazing app, and touting it to everyone, instead of waiting for Apple to OK what will be the the BEST IM app for the iPhone hands down!
October 13th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Thanks so much for this beautiful new piece of software. I love it.
Love having everything in one place.
October 14th, 2009 at 7:12 am
any apps for other systems in the works? I’d love to see an android app. I don’t think they make you wait so many months before they allow it on the market.
October 15th, 2009 at 8:23 am
pls.just try to improve on the new software that hav
October 18th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
i still have a problem that i can’t connect people with camera/ i mean that i don’t see the box that write that i can do talk and video. what should i do???
October 20th, 2009 at 10:42 am

October 20th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Any idea if it’s going to sync with the iphone address book? like ICQ, AIM and Yahoo messager does???
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:35 pm
October 24th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
” Spectacular” Thanks for all this hard work, really great.
October 26th, 2009 at 9:15 am
Takes some time to adapt, but so far only better. Hope U3 version will be here soon, also i would be nice to have real plugins for other services (without need to install ie. skype). Perhaps use original smiles from messenger (but make it optional, sometimes trillian smiles are better).
October 28th, 2009 at 11:01 am
I really like Trillian (just installed 4.0) but it still won’t automatically sync contacts between Trillian and the actual IM service. Depending upon the circumstances, sometimes I add (or delete) contacts in Trillian and sometimes in the actual service, but right now I have to enter (or remove) them in both places. Trillian can import contacts when installed but there doesn’t seem to be any option to do that at will.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:41 am
this massanger is the best massanger, i like it very much, please make it free to all the users for ever.
thanks and regards
November 6th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
I would also like a Blackberry version of Trillian. Willing to beta test!
