New in Trillian 4.1: Better Status Control.

Our TODO list is usually pretty jam-packed with feature requests, some of which are very particular to individual taste and others that almost everyone agrees on! Some of the major new preferences and tweaks we’ve made to improve Trillian 4.1…
We’ve made a few critical changes to the behavior of the status system to make it a smoother and more intuitive experience.

- Away status will now wait. When you mark yourself “Away” using the default message, Trillian will not set your status to “Away Since…” right away. Instead, you’re given the chance to optionally input your own message and confirm with the enter key. You don’t have to worry about accidentally tweeting “Away Since…” as you’re typing a proper message.
Switch your status without switching your message. New menus have been added to let you easily switch your status and keep your status message.
Tweet right from contact list! When the Twitter plugin is set to match Trillian status, a character count will automatically appear when you set your status for all IM and social services.
Set status of individual connections. Individual connections within Trillian can now mark themselves to statuses separate from the “global” status. For example, if you’ve set ICQ status individually to “Free for Chat”, it will stay the same even when choosing “Away” from the global status menu. Trillian 4.1 will save these statuses between reconnects and restarts, and you can always request that a connection return to following global presence whenever you like.
- The ability to mark a status message as an “away” message has returned, giving you finer control over how Trillian behaves when you change to a particular status.
- Auto-responses are back, and can be enabled or disabled on a global basis.
Beyond the revamping of our status system, there are also a lot more miscellaneous new features and fixes. A few highlights before tomorrow’s unveiling of our new Twitter/Facebook updates:
The ability to “hide” windows. All windows can now show a hide button similar to the one that existed in the Trillian 3.x series. You can turn on this advanced feature directly from preferences.- Screen capture now works on secondary monitors.
- You can now disable buzz locally.
Stay tuned for our final preview including big updates to the Twitter and Facebook plugins! See you back here tomorrow!

@Simon, you just pick “ONLINE” it will connect all disconnected services. That option was not needed.

This update really is nice… love the screen capture working on secondary monitors and all the away system enhancements! Awesome. And people will be thrilled about the hide button option!

@Toff, that is what Identities are for… seems so silly to put everything in 1 program if you want everything different still.

Hi all!!
First All… CONGRATULATIONS!!! Very very very good job!! I love Trillian (and more Astra).
I would really like to improve the Twitter plug in, in order to search, add and view friends and followers (like twhirl).

Well, basically, this is because for ICQ I might want to have status messages in Russian due to all my ICQ contacts are Russian-speaking, while use English for MSN, AIM and everything else.
Some users might want this for something else, I think it’d be useful.

I just love this messanger!!!!!! Says upgrade 25.00 and dont know if thats a month? year? etc..Does anyone know? I want to buy it!
September 24th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Jill, it is $25 for a new pro user for a license for the lifetime of 4.X … meaning 4.1 and 4.2 etc would be free. And if you are reading upgrade, it should only be $10 for previous pro subscribers (even though its no longer subscription based).
September 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Why the heck would thay remove the “Automatic Reply” feature that one could use when your status is changed to Away…..I have a paid version of Trillian but I am starting to wonder now……..
September 25th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
@Scream81:
I stand corrected, thanks.
@Ivan:
Auto-responses will be back in 4.1, which will be a free upgrade from 4.0 if you’re a paid user. Their upgrade system is such that if you paid for 4.0, then you will get free upgrades to all 4.xx versions. You don’t have to worry about paying again until 5.0.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
@Ivan .. because there were a lot of problems with how it worked and they needed to redo it and make it optional, so they had to pull the plug on that feature until 4.1 like SDWolf said.

October 3rd, 2009 at 12:14 am
never mind i found it…i’m idiot lol
October 4th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Wow Trillian web cam is horrible! Fuzzy and blurry.
October 12th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
I also miss the famous “reconnect all” button! –> We need it!
October 19th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I wanted to know if you are adding Facebook CHAT to the program, as i did not see it.
Nimbuzz app on the iphone has this and the tweeting from the app is great, also, off tangent but would be cool a plugin that could allow you to post a blog post to wordpress would be impressive, even if it was for a charge, perhaps an app store where there are free plugins and paid plugins for more advanced features and attract users from ACTUAL clients, market share and profits that what i would do if i was working as cerulean studion find more ways to monitize the service and program plugins.
October 27th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
The Reconnect All option (on right click) is a huge loss. Please bring it back…
November 22nd, 2009 at 7:57 am
There is a way to match the Trillian Mode to a new tweet. But is there also a way to do it from the other side? That trillian automatically matches its status to the tweet you wrote (for example on the web?)

Ugh, I have to click connect 13 times. Please bring back to tell us where to find reconnect all.
