Trillian for Windows 4.1 Public Beta!

Trillian for Windows 4.1 Build 15 is now available for public beta testing. We’ve removed the authentication requirement from our download page and all interested customers are now free to participate in the beta. Trillian for Windows 4.1 features the following new improvements:
- Mail improvements.
- Windows 7 integration.
- Better status control.
- Powerful new Twitter and Facebook features!
We’ve also worked on improving overall stability, fixing bugs, and reducing resource requirements whenever possible. Moving forward, we’ll be continuing to work with beta testers to resolve reported issues as we push towards a final release. Remember, 4.1 is still beta and will contain bugs and crashes. Don’t upgrade unless you’re comfortable running pre-release software! Thanks for your support and we hope you enjoy the newest Trillian.

Congratulation to open beta!!
A lot faster then I thought, great!
Keep up the good work
October 29th, 2009 at 11:25 am
ah nice, but I’m a bit confused… is adding features now over for 4.1 when you say push towards a final release? was really fast
October 29th, 2009 at 11:33 am
@Scream81: Mostly, yeah, but we’ll use a larger testing audience to be certain there’s nothing major to be done. Our feature efforts will resume in 4.2 – this is all part of our renewed dedication to faster release cycles!
October 29th, 2009 at 11:36 am
@smw, that is great news, I look forward to 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5
October 29th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Nifty! Will you be resuming the ability to automatically download and install updates through Trillian?
October 29th, 2009 at 11:45 am
@smw – Thanks alot for clarification! good news!
October 29th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Any plan to use animated gif files for avatar?
October 29th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Mazeta – you can add an animated gif to your avatar….
it only animates when Astra has focus however…
October 29th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I no longer feel special…..
October 29th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Now, if only Astra (4.0) had taken this quick, we’d be on Trillian 10.2 by now!
(I kid, but seriously, good work!)
October 30th, 2009 at 1:24 am
thx very much… much faster
October 30th, 2009 at 3:59 am
beta…..really!? so no update to msn plugin in 4.1???
October 30th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Seems a little like it, but don’t give up hope
I for my part, think that it is quite possible that 4.1 will receive an update for the wlm/msn plugin, at least voice support would be quite interested on my side, because, when this is inside, I can spread the word of trillian being a sufficent replacement for msn and other messengers
Voice support is just one of the features that most of my friends want to have in there, yes, I know that the sound quality in msn sucks, but don’t tell me, tell them
October 30th, 2009 at 7:07 am
MSN upgrades are ongoing but won’t be included in 4.1. The work has been started but we didn’t want to hold up 4.1 for it as it’s a large job and we’re working on keeping releases lighter and faster moving forward. Our current target is 4.2 – we’ll keep users updated via the blog should this change.
October 30th, 2009 at 8:40 am
I would still like to see tray icons telling you that you have mail like digsby as well as the already included pop up notifications
October 30th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Still no sound notification when mail arrives in Gmail.
October 30th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Why do you install the Ask-Toolbar without asking for allowing this????
This is annoying me and I considerring this as spam like!
And the question is: Will you put in a tool which not only deinstalls this tool visually – this can be eaily done by WIN7-deinstall – but as well clears all the hidden links in the system and registry. This is your obligation now.
October 30th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Now that it’s in beta you should start updating the Language Packs wiki page with new entries from 4.1.
October 30th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
@ jt___
It does ask if you want to install the ask toolbar, just pay closer attention during the install and be sure to uncheck BOTH spots.
October 30th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
@jt, the only registry entry is the one for the uninstaller to find the program. Trillian doesn’t use the registry for anything else. They didn’t do anything wrong, you just missed a checkbox like a-s told you.

Every time I launch this new version, Trillian launches Skype multiple times http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/275/trillianl.png (Im sorry for spam, I dont know how to post a bug)
October 31st, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Is there any reason that the music note when you display your current song shows up as a box in WLM?
November 1st, 2009 at 6:57 am
@smw, i’m not gonna pay for 5.0 if msn don’t get update before 5.0…the msn update is very important!
November 1st, 2009 at 12:33 pm
I am giving up. No MSN/Live upgrade this time either?
November 1st, 2009 at 9:07 pm
I’m having a problem with Facebook chat. I can send messages fine, but I don’t receive any messages. If I visit the website, the incoming messages are there.
November 1st, 2009 at 9:48 pm
@ DG
Granted i am not giving up but i am very very unhappy about the msn/live overhaul that was mentioned for 4.1. If they can not follow thru with what has been mentioned (in the blogs and forum) then they should not mention it unless they state it as a posability or idea (do not state it will be added to a build/version like they did for 4.1). Bad form C.S. Or should i say good form with BAD follow thru (a let down).
November 2nd, 2009 at 11:46 am
Could it be that WLM is used on XP and thus it utilizes a font that doesn’t have that note unicode symbol coded into it?
November 2nd, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Cool, glad to see it now public.
November 2nd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
I check this Blog twice a week, and can’t wait for any news about the Mac-Version. So where is it? How long do I have to wait?
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I am having the same problem. I can recieve messages to FB chat but it is hit or miss if I can send..
I am getting the error that says: “An error occurred while sending a chat message”.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Nice one! BUT:
Guys i really wont give you any money until you fix the damn transfer problems in icq:
* sending contacts dont work (and there is NO information that the guy is triying to send you a contact)
* sending files often fails
and some more small stuff!
I really love trillian iam using it for about 3-4 years. But pls fix the icq problems THEN i really will buy your software. Until this I keep using the cracked / free version!

@El Chipo, Rachels last comment was to hopefully have it ready for beta by Thanksgiving, which is 24 days from now.
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:28 am
Well so far this seems to be the worst version of all. Apart from not having any sound notifications for gmail and Facebook mail, Facebook chat keeps disconnecting and when it does work I can never be sure if lines of chat are getting through without having the Facebook page open.
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Beautiful job guys. Will be waiting for aim direct connect image sending like version 3 had. =) Keep up the good work.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:48 am
I keep getting “An error occurred while sending a chat message.” all the time on Facebook
November 4th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
hi guys,
nice work – but why for heavens sake new networks if the original networks are still not completely supportes? there are still problems with file transfers in icq, voice and cam in the networks are not completely supported, accepting contact inquiries don’t work safe in cordonata and some other stuff too. i would prefer a version 4.1 or lately 4.2 REALLY feature completed.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Either I’m blind or there no posibility to get this Twitter entries a bit smaller. I’d like 4.0 for it’s small view of new tweets. Hope I will find this option or the release includes this option. Apart from that it’s getting better and better
November 4th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
i can’t get facebook chat to go online..please help
November 4th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
ATTENTION ALL: Facebook made changes again and broke the chat functionality. Bugs have been reported and hopefully it will be fixed up for the next version
So basically no more need to ask why or to blame Astra
November 5th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
ATTENTION ALL: KingIR has posted in the forums that 4.1 build 16 will fix the broken facebook chat that resulted due to Facebook’s changes over the past week.
November 5th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I noticed that with the latest 4.1 BETA:
1) With my email accounts (Windows Live & Yahoo), when I try to expand them to see my individual emails, it doesn’t show any even though it says there are emails in my Inbox.
2) With my POP3 account, when I try and double click on it to open up Thunderbird (which I have setup in my options) nothing opens.
3) Not sure if this is a Trillian issue, but is there any way to send text messages to cell phone numbers like I do with Yahoo and Windows Live Messenger?
4) Facebook still showing old events like “This person wrote on your Wall”.
November 5th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
@caribpapi … to #3 … you can send IM’s to cell phones on AIM and ICQ through Trillian, just not on the MSN and Yahoo plugins. If the cell phone number is in the US and was (234)567-8901, you would message (or add to your list and then message) +1234567901 (+1 is for USA).
November 6th, 2009 at 10:29 am
@DiamondNRG
Thanks for the info, but it doesnt let me add the number to my list.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
@DiamondNRG
Oops! Forgot the +1 in front of the number. Thanks so much for the info!
November 7th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Still no audio video support
At least not for AIM, MSN, Google etc etc
November 10th, 2009 at 7:02 am
All Skype online status disappeared. After refreshng, no contacts transferred
November 10th, 2009 at 7:15 am
after shutting down skype, removing it from Trillian, re-adding the protocol and “accepting” it from skype fixed it
November 10th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Any hint on when a feature will be available to set a personal message? AFAIK only displaying other contact’s personal messages is available.
November 10th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Totally sweet! One request, please: Ability to change font size for Twitter/Facebook in List layout. So I don’t have to squint. >.<
November 11th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
@Eduardo, click where the text “ONLINE” is and type. It works like that for years now
November 11th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
@soopahviv … they added that for version 4.1 already… you can change the size.
November 13th, 2009 at 7:07 am

this is one hell of a wonderful solution to the several accounts that i have (pardon my language
)
November 25th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
I really like the new 4.0 version, and have recommended it to many friends. I am really looking forward to examining the improvements to the 4.1.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Will there be Trillian for Windows Mobile phones?
December 4th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
@Stephen … then go download 4.1 and try it!
@ccurimao, they will evaluate that when Windows Mobile 7 comes out next year.
December 14th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Nice, better than the msn, just a question…
does Trillian can use animated gif as avatar picture?
December 31st, 2009 at 8:19 am
what ever happened to being able to disable trillian from saving passwords when you have multiple users?
January 9th, 2010 at 7:10 am
I simply love the way trillian provides im’s to be combined on one location.I love it. TY trillian.
