Trillian for Windows 4.1!

Launch-Rocket-41

Today we’re happy to announce the full release of Trillian for Windows 4.1! Automatic update notifications will begin rolling out to all of our existing 4.0 customers over the next few days. 4.1 includes hundreds of new changes, including mail improvements, Windows 7 integration, an improved status control, and powerful new Twitter and Facebook features! We’ve already started working on version 4.2, and will continue to support and maintain 4.1 should any new bugs appear.

If you enjoy Trillian, please consider showing your support by  purchasing a Trillian Pro license or spreading the word about the product to your friends and family! For now, we’re going right back to work and will have a progress update on the Mac version coming up next – we know many of you have been waiting patiently for an update. Thanks to everyone who helped us test and improve this version of Trillian!

Sweet, had a feeling it was coming soon… ROLL ON 4.2!

  6. Jamie Says:

Hi! could you please add video chat for MSN and AIM!

    Thanks!

  7. Kris Says:

Just an FYI, the download link still shows the 4.1.0.23 build, which is the testing version, right?

  8. charming Says:

    ok

  9. DiamondNRG Says:

    Kris, that is the final.

  10. Irontiger Says:

You did a great job again.
Thanks for the status updates for the different versions ;)

  11. MaddestMax Says:

Congrats guys. Gettin’ this now. Lookin’ forward to beta testing 4.2! ;) You should send another tweet regarding this. You’re last one showed up blank.

  12. Elf Says:

Is there still a YEARLY fee for Trillian Pro, or has it been changed to a one-time fee with “upgrade fees” when an upgrade is made?

  13. smw Says:

@Elf: One-time fee for the 4.x product line, upgrade fees thereafter (5.0+).

  14. Kermit Says:

Hey is the Trilli 4.1 only a “i want a new grafic” one? I don´t know something that Trilli didn´t have. And if I
    should guess ………. no XFIRE-plugin anymore …. right!? ^^

  15. Boots Says:

Still waiting on OS X support. *sigh* :-(

  16. Astrophizz Says:

Kermit, your post is almost incomprehensible. No, 4.1 is not just some graphical update. Additionally, the xfire plugin was a 3rd party plugin which the original developer abandoned. Someone else is working on remaking the plugin.

  17. transce Says:

    if it ain’t broke….

  18. DarkNovaGamer Says:

Yay! Can’t wait to try see what 4.2 will be bringing.

  19. DarkNovaGamer Says:

Yay! Can’t wait to try see what 4.2 will be bringing. Hopefully a new default theme.. I vote Avion Pro.

  20. DiamondNRG Says:

@transce … it had issues and 4.1 has nice features, don’t be a troll.

@DarkNovaGamer… Why does it need a new default SKIN? (not called theme) … Cordonata is nice for a lot of people and if you already have Avion Pro that will work fine in 4.1 AND 4.2 … Astra isn’t ever going to come with a default skin made by a user… it will always be a skin made by CS themselves (particularly Kid).

  21. Angelo Says:

I’ve been using Trillian since the day I started messaging on the web. Other products have come and gone but I keep coming back to Trillian.

  22. DarkNovaGamer Says:

    @DiamondNGR

I apologize for using the wrong word? Anyways, every person I’ve had try Trillian hated the default Cordonata skin and loved Avion Pro. Whats wrong with a user made skin being used as a default skin?

  23. Dakiraun Says:

Still waiting for Linux support (would nice not to have to run it under WINE).

  24. Nico Says:

I’m still using version 3.1 I did not even know that there was a version 4. Good to know.

  25. DiamondNRG Says:

@DarkGovaNamer… (you spelled my name wrong so its fair :P )

How many people is this that you have had “hate” Cordonata? And that is the beauty of Trillian, that there are always dozens of skins. And Trillian is a sold Product so the default skins are made by them, that is just how it goes. Avion Pro is nice, I even use it myself, so I am not ripping on it at all, Aaron and Florian did a great job with it… it just isn’t likely to end up the default, and Cordonata is a nice skin in itself (sure its only good for those who have the space so it doesn’t feel bulky) and I think its insulting to the amount of work Kid did on it to write posts about wanting a new default skin when you can chose any skin you want. :)

  26. DarkNovaGamer Says:

    @DiamondNRG

My apologies for misspelling your name. The blog comments need an edit button.

Lets see.. I’m going to say.. 6 people so far. 7 if you count the person who stopped using it after 5 minutes of use, just because of the default skin.

I mean no offense to the person who made it. I am not saying its bad, but Trillian needs to give a good first impression. To me, Cordonata is kind of.. its hard to explain, its just awkward. Avion Pro is visually appealing and works quite well with Trillian.

All I am saying is explore it, it doesn’t have to be Avion Pro but for the love of all that is holy, don’t wait till 5.x for a default skin change. Oh and sorry if my comments seem a bit bunched up, need sleep. Off to sleep!

  27. Dehrk Says:

I’ll buy a pro license when I get to use an OSX version. Deal? Deal.

  28. Ghulam Hassan Karimi Says:

Thats really nice and we hope to be wetness of more developement

  29. shadow6o2 Says:

since the last update my trillian doesnt change people online status properly. and my video chat function has never worked properly. does 4.1/4.2 fix this?

  30. Purples Says:

I’d be happy to pay for 4.x if I could install and use it without having to have an account on Cerulean’s servers for it to talk to home whenever I’m online.

  31. Walter Says:

The feature list of v4 is quite impressive but it’s overkill if you’re just looking for traditional IM functionality. How about offering a lite version?

  32. agnostic-stigmata Says:

    @ Walter

The vast majority of features in Astra can be enabled or disabled, with that being said all you have to do is enable or disable anything you want or do not want. :)

  33. Waltman Says:

Can I disable auto-login to the Astra network? This is the reason I’m still running 3.1: I don’t care about yet another username/password to remember, and more data being send over my company’s network.

  34. wjccreations Says:

Does this work with Windows 2000 as I am still using that for some programme that I can’t get in XP and higher. Tried changing to Version 4 once and screwed my whole computer up I am using Version 3.1 – can anyone let me know please.

  35. James Morris Says:

The mail contacts only show up in tiny format. Even if you change them in the settings, they ONLY stay in tiny setting. Pretty annoying!

  36. Beltshumeltz Says:

Great job! Patches and updates make me feel good inside

  37. sk Says:

I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but Trillian 4.1 keeps crashing for me. It looks like it has to do with either the Facebook or Twitter plugin. I even uninstalled and re installed it. Gives me a c++ bug error and asks to abort, retry, etc.

    Any suggestions?

  38. Alex Says:

Yes nice Update! Thanks for this.

  39. Jonyah Says:

Ok, first thanks for keeping this up to date, but with the new features that work “from the task bar”, I now have an extra annoying entry in my task bar for trillian. How do I get rid of this? I only want trillian in the systray like it’s always been. I went through all the setting and didn’t see any way to turn this off.

  40. Spixe Says:

I as well DO NOT LIKE the login to astra feature. I almost did not upgrade to v4 because I don’t want another login/password to something I don’t even use. Nevertheless, thanks.

  41. Ilya Brutt Says:

I have long been waiting for.:)

  42. Cash Says:

I use the trillian cobalt skin and the status text seems to have shrunk and lists everything instead of just the first 50 characters or so. This looks like 10x worse then the previous 1 line max and its in some weird font. Is there an option somewhere to get rid of this change?

  43. Mrs. R A-W Says:

Between being ‘older’ some call it mature, others ancient, antique, even senile and my being BLOND, did Cerulean Studios change Trillian’s name to Astra? Or, is Astra separate software / version?

  44. Darkmundo Says:

Excelente, Tiene muy buena apariencia, Esta super. Gracias y muy buen trabajo Equipo de CS

  45. Scream81 Says:

@Cash: This is no place to report bugs or ask for functions. Please try the forum to get help for your problem.

  46. Scream81 Says:

@Mrs.raw: Astra is the name of the 4.x.x version of Trillian

  47. Fonz Says:

Version 3.x supported “Free for chat” and “Find chat partner” or something to that extent, for ICQ. I’ve been missing this feature in 4.x

    Fonz

  48. andrew Says:

    Hey guys,

is this version free or have I to pay to this?
It would be nice if u could answer me by mail!!
I found no good informations about a free version like trillian 3.1.

    regards

    andrew

    Thanks a lot!

  49. agnostic-stigmata Says:

    @ andrew

There is a free version (basic) and a paid version (pro).

  50. MarkusP Says:

Windows 7 support does not work properly.
I do not see any only status icon on the task bar (as stated here: http://www.trillian.im/learn/tour-windows-whatsnew.html), only the system tray icon displays the online status.

So instead I now have an attached icon to the taskbar and another system tray icon…

  51. Keith Says:

maybe should rename to Trillian 4.1 for windows, less savy users may not understand.

  52. MarkusP Says:

Another annoying behavoiur: If I click on the taskbar icon, Trillian tries to start and log in again … and fails of course, if already running.

  53. agnostic-stigmata Says:

    MarkusP

Both the issues you mention have been mentioned in the forums.

  54. Mnew Says:

Thanks for this :) Keep up the good work!

  55. Vicky Santorini Says:

Might have to return the software. The video situation really brings the concept and software to a hault. Even the Yahoo Video (only on that works) is VERY BUGGY to say the least. I really really really hope they are working on this. There are many websites that do pretty much the same thing as the software, BUT that ALL the video feature work. :-/

  56. MarkusP Says:

Regarding the new version, too? Could you give me a link? I did not find anything… Thanks!

  57. Jonyah Says:

@agnostic-stigmata, I’ve gone through the forums and see no mention of how to get rid of the trillian menu bar. it’s redundant seeing as we already have the systray icon. i need to get rid of it or the go back to another app.

  58. Centurion Says:

I’ve been a big fan since first discovering Trillian a few years back. It beats Yahoo Messenger hands down, which doesn’t let you see clearly who is online, and is anyway an unimaginative format. To have MSN and YM on an an all-in-one platform is great. Takes up less space. Efficient and agreeable.

  59. agnostic-stigmata Says:

    Jonyah

Go to preferences/Contact list and then remove the check mark from “Show contact list as a task in windows taskbar when not docked”. That should help you out.

  60. makhdum khan Says:

I M USING TRILLIAN SINCI 1 MONTH THIS A WONDERFUL MESSENGER HOTMAIL +YAHOO

  61. ShoSho Says:

Trillian program is the best realy realy but i got a lil problem while i update the new version at first of all its pretty cool

  62. SUDIPTO BOSE Says:

had trouble to install the latest trillian astra as the installer exe software were repeatedly crashing when downloaded from cnet.thereafter tried the inbuilt updater option of trillian and succeeded after two failed download.excellent improvement over the older dull ones.cerulean studios developers did a splendid job, again.

  63. Covertops2010 Says:

I love the new look of Trillian, I had it a long time ago when I guess it was first coming out and it has improved very drastically, keep up the great work.

  64. Robert Says:

    Where is my hide button?

  65. Mark Massengale Says:

    yes! video chat support plz!

  66. Jera Wolfe Says:

I’m satisfied with the work. Trillian still has trouble with functionality in video and file i/o at times, but I don’t believe that’s the fault of CS, and more the constant chaning of the other IM programs. I find the other IM programs to be bloated, filled with unneccessary fluff and not enough solid functionality, and where I could stomach running one, I can’t run all of them, so Trillian remains a solid fallback, and has since become the only IM program I use. I will continue using it and investing in the product, especially as it still supports good old ICQ, which though outdated, has a lot of my contacts of a decade ago still using it for convo.

Good job, CS, please keep up the good work.

Suggestions: I’m not interested in skins or looks, I’m more interested in streamlined functionality. Smileys and other such social networking fluff though enjoyed by many, is often a bother to the groups I converse with. But options are an amazing way to give two groups, and though I expect the default to be marketed for the general populace, and easy and user friendly method of removing everything but the basic slim text chat, as well as a more advanced method of configuring the options and notifications have been a strong point of Trillian that I highly appreciate. I hope they will continue developing that, and seek to make it both more fun for the social networker, and more functional and low resource for those of us who don’t want those features. That’s my only suggestion.

    ~ Jera Wolfe

  67. DiamondNRG Says:

Robert, there is an option in the preferences you have to enable. 6th checkbox on the message windows page… pretty simple.

  68. Andrew Says:

So is it ready yet or is this just telling us its coming? And I assume it will cost something?

  69. AgincourtDB Says:

Thanks for the better Twitter and Twitpic integration!

  70. Sue Says:

Still no global reconnect button? :o /

  71. bree Says:

i bought trillian pro 2 years ago. now, i have this astra installed, and i can’t use my license. is the trillian pro license annual?

  72. Anysia Says:

Astra auto updated, and now all it does is crash every time it starts. If I install the older version, the update gets automatically applied and it keeps crashing. How can I stop the update until this is fixed?

  73. Breeanna "Ducky" Says:

Love the new trillian…but I hate how now the “bubbles” messages are coloured. It makes it very hard to read and I dont know how to change the background colours on it.

  74. Rocky Says:

Hey people out there, what makes this better then trillian 3.1 Have they really got the bugs work out in this product being better. My mind wants to here what all have to say.

  75. Ramen Sama Says:

Still no direct connecting? This is a shame.. i probably will end up going back to normal trillian since they abandoned the whole direct connect thing for inline images.

  76. didyman Says:

Hey there! Thanks for the new version, runs fine and sooth!
    Two questions:
-I’ve noticed long ago, in one version supporting for drawings into the message windows. That support was a nice, working feature, but gone after an update. What’s up with that, or how can i enable it again? Since that i have bought Trillian and made a total clean install, chasing registry entries and local directories.
-Why i can’t see others webcam, if i have none? I assume, webcam-chat would be possible without it, just on the other side, the partner would see my avatar, as MSN messenger does i suppose.

  77. didyman Says:

One more: MSN display name. If i set something else than my default, it will be reverted back next time i start Trillian. And also, i can’t set a status to be permanent, too, next time it reverts back to “online”.

  78. JK Says:

Hey, update done and facebook authorization page could not be displayed.
    Works before…
Also background-color of contact-icons (offline-contacts) are too much, looks strange.
Hmm, why changing everything on evey update :-( keep good things…

  79. rionpulya Says:

    @Breeanna “Ducky”,
I prefer the old 4.0 color of the bubbles, too.

    @DiamondNRG,
You said me earlier, I can change this bubble color, editing the skin manually. Could you give me a little help findig where?
(I picked the color of the bubble which is R64G111B159, but can’t find this color in any of the ini or xml files.)

  80. janinep Says:

Is there a way of going back? I’m trying to uninstall cause the new chat screen is hard to read and the twitter feature is too large. I use my Trillian discretely. Please can you let me know. I’ve tried to uninstall and download the last version, but it automatically updates.

  81. Michael Looper Says:

I trillian, thanks for the support and upgrading to the new features. I haven’t tried them all out yet but I’m looking forward to.
Keep up the good work! and…thanks for the facebook and twitter plugins, i use those the most!

  82. Remmy Says:

    I miss this as well.

  83. sambha Says:

    Hi all,

I have been using Trillian from almost 5 Years now …

All of you might have understood by the way why I have been using this from a long time…Absolutely because its the best Multi protocol Instant Messenger…

However I miss one important tool which used to existed in precious versions of Trillian i.e quick Instant messaging…

In the existing version of Trillian Astra we dont have this tool which makes me to rely on the vendor provided messengers or some other third party messengers…So if the develeloping team could please see to it that The quick messaging Option is added it wud give the new version of trillian astra a rocking difference…

  84. Crystal Dragon Says:

I know there is Trillian for the IPhone, BUT not everyone has an Iphone!!!
Could there be a version that would work on all the smartphones please?
I am gone a lot some days and would welcome being able to use this on my HTC.
I love the new version with all of the upgrades… great work!!! :)

  85. GESWho Says:

Nice, but, I use both windows and Mac OS X, and I’d like to stop having to run Parallels on my Macs when I’m on them, just to have Trillian Open. How bout a little more work to finish the Mac Specific Problems, since you keep saying that the core Trillian code is cross platform. Then you can begin to update for all platforms at once as you add new features and fix bugs…

  86. Jason Says:

New 4.1 build crashes as it loads, despite re-install and re-start… anyone else experiencing this? (4.0 had Outlook compatibility problems, but they were manageable), this however just won’t do… helps!

  87. ramdhan Says:

    very nice full version!! yippy

  88. ramdhan Says:

very great of full version! loved it!

  89. Jonyah Says:

    @agnostic-stigmata
Thank you very much. I swear I went through every setting twice and didn’t see how to turn off the task bar entry. Now I’m a happy camper again.

  90. DiamondNRG Says:

@sambha… Quick Reply already exists… it should be on by default too. Please look in the preferences.

@Remmy … you don’t need global reconnect, you simply pick the status icon to the left of the message in your list and click “online”. It does everything the other did before.

@didyman, WLM/MSN webcam is not supported yet… and display names should not revert… file a bug for that… but for your status to stay as it was you need to enable it in the preferences.

A lot of you are posting about things calling them bugs and saying your wanting to go back when a lot of options were added… why not spend 5 minutes actually going through the preferences… it is worth it and will answer a lot of your questions! Please!!!
@JanineP … why not ask first how to switch twitter to simple view like it was? Click view > Contact List Layout > News > Simple … DONE … no need to go back to 4.0 for what is now an option.

  91. YY4u Says:

what a pain to install It wants to make user name & PW WTF I have one already its my email account I see no were to get free ver. Said it would email me some user account number well that never came & if it does the wait was too long. Lame no thanks more work then its worth 3.1 works just fine.

  92. Yo Says:

Nice.. but still no “custom away message” available in the “set status” menu… :-(

  93. Rob Says:

I also refuse to setup an Ass-tra account to use what I’ve been using all along without one.

  94. Rodrigo Says:

Didn’t see much change since I don’t use tweet or any of the new features, but still nice.
For the hide button: Go to preferences> Message Windows. Check the “Allow chat windows to be hidden” item.

  95. DiamondNRG Says:

@YY4u … just make the new account and then you can link your Pro account if you have one. The Astra account is the same for both Basic and Pro…

@Yo … *sigh* … you don’t do it that way… you pick AWAY and then it highlights your status message for you in the list and you just start typing what you want and hit enter.

  96. Thasim Says:

Awsome i love Trilliian that’s very Nice I think This is the one of best all in one chat thanks and keep it up……

is there a way to be able to use e2e (end-to-end) encryption in xmpp protocol?
    (see: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0027.html, http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0116.html, http://www.xmpp.org/rfcs/rfc3923.html, http://trac.gajim.org/wiki/GajimXEPSupport)

the following clients support end-to-end encryption with each other using xmpp-protocol’s e2e standard: Gajim, Psi, Kopete, JBother, Jabbin, mcabber, Centericq

  98. LikeIt Says:

    Great product!

  99. jk04120 Says:

While the many fixed bugs in 4.1 are appreciated, you still seem to be on the “add more features to checklist” rather than “fix bugs and improve basic functionality”. Judging from the change log, the several basic functionality problems in XMPP are not fixed, the failure to properly identify which connection is involved in a disconnect is still not fixed, there is still no video or audio capability available for connections other than your proprietary astra one (functionality that was present in 3.1), etc., etc. I’d appreciate 4.x a lot more if it actually provided a superset of 3.1 capabilities and functionality, rather than adding more partially-supported connection types, and a lot of glitz while reducing functionality and adding bugs. The present situation is very disappointing and not really what I (and others) expected during the very long “we aren’t going to address that problem because we are working on Astra” alpha and beta periods.

  100. James Says:

Ok while I appreciate the changes in 4.2, I don’t like what you guys did with the way mail is displayed visually. The email addresses list looks too squished and unproportional with the rest of my contact list.. Secondly, now all my contacts w/o avatars now have huge squares to the left of them, where before it was a sphere with the color of IM client they’re using… I liked it better that way it looked less cluttered. I see an option to favor IM spheres over avatars, but I’d rather have this apply to ONLY those contacts w/o the avatars.. Not globally.

  101. smw Says:

@jk04120: Have you reported the “basic functionality problems in XMPP” to Bugzilla? If not, that’s the best way to ensure that a problem gets the attention of a developer, so please consider it. I’m not aware of any glaring problems in our XMPP implementation but would be happy to investigate anything you’ve uncovered.

  102. corinnnaaa Says:

    awesome

  103. Iggi Says:

Not working well on Windows 7 64-bit.
Can’t connect to skype – it works only if I uninstall Skype and Trillian and reinstall them again. But it works only on a first run, after that it can’t connect to Skype.
Also, if I try to disconnect or remove Skype connection in preferences, Trillian freezes in a way that it doesn’t respond to commands and I can exit from Trillian only via killing process in a task manager.

  104. cale Says:

YES, Finally OS X support! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  105. FrankGrimes Says:

Nice to see it’s updated but sending offline MSN messages was removed :(

  106. rionpulya Says:

I understand now, the bubbles change color according to text color. For brighter text colors, bubble background gets darker. The idea is good, but…

if my contact writes with red text color, it is hardly readable on the dark blue bubble. Makes my eye ache. :)

  107. just a name Says:

    still no answer?
is there no http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0027.html implementation? maybe because this would be really secure instead using something proprietary, huh?

  108. DiamondNRG Says:

@rionpulya, Astra has options to over-ride color and font changes… so you can pick what you see on your screen and if your contact writes you with a horrible font or horrible color that wouldn’t look good on your theme it would automatically get changed to what you picked and be displayed nicely in your chat window. I’d suggest you check that out… Preferences > Chat

  109. solas Says:

ya im not to thrilled about needin to log into another server either. thats why i got into trillian in the first place i was running from windows live, and all other things that feel to intrusive. i know from a tech standpoint its useful but for me it just bothersome. i like a standalone piece of software that can jack into other chat servers for me. so im gonna stick with what i have for now.

  110. mebrelith Says:

Changelog says you guys fixed crash-mail bug but it ain’t fixed. Get to work fellas cause I don’t enjoy having an app crash everytime I close it.

  111. just a name Says:

now look you’re even censoring my post..your client will never be really successful because it’s proprietary..more and more people wake up: a state should be transparent or it’s fascistic

But, it would be nice, if I could turn off the dynamic/adaptive bubble colors. Because with 4.0 I didn’t have problem reading red text colors on the light blue or grey bubble background.
The many checkboxes in settings, what makes Trillian a good program. ;)

  118. Stephanie Says:

Any way BlackBerry Messenger can be added in the future?

  119. Raul Says:

¿para cuando la versión en español?

  120. Ken Says:

Where can I download the Linux version?

I just tried doing an emerge -s trillian and found nothing in portage. :(

    .-.-.

  121. Ken S Says:

Is there a way to change the font size for the main Trillian screen? For me it’s too small to read. Changing the “contact list layout” settings seems to enlarge the avatar and not the text.

  122. rionpulya Says:

    @ Ken
Have you tried Trillian with wine on linux?

  123. misterdan Says:

Funny media post about Trillian: http://contexts.org/socimages/2010/01/22/straight-women-are-women-and-gay-women-are-gay-also-straight/

  124. Jesse McGuay Says:

Well, my Trillian still shows as build 23, download link still points to 23 and no email about an update either. Is there a “Check for upgrades” menu somewhere that I’m missing? I did check under preferences and it has a checkmark in the “Check for beta” option.

  125. DiamondNRG Says:

Jesse … build 23 IS the final… they just labeled it final.

  126. pandas Says:

    Installing is easy.
    login is not.
Did I just loose all settings?

  127. DG Says:

ok 4.1 comes and still no file transfers or audio/video…just a bunch of junk added who nobody cares about anyway. developers: have you seen theese comments above? have you looked at your forum? are peoples happy about this update?? NO. Trillian isnt working as it should! even the very simplest basics such as to transfer a simple file isnt there (still!). and even the rest of its mediocre features are buggier than any other IM client on the planet and there are god damn hundreds of other alternatives. I have waited and waited for so many years and Ive had it with this now. I dont care if you fix the transfers and webcams – if anyone thinks thoose features are going to actually work right from the start then they are fooling themselves anyway. Give it 5 years then maybe this client is stable. Oh wait i forgot – trillian will be long gone then! Open sourced software is the future. Time to grow up cerulean.

  128. DiamondNRG Says:

DG … file transfers work fine here.. maybe you need to grow up and stop writing lame blog rants. Open source software sucks.

  129. DG Says:

they do “suck” huh? tell me “DiamondNRG” why that is? is it becouse the community gets together fixing it, instead of waiting for the corporate overlords to get their lazy buts going? or is it becouse the features in the software is added as decided by a comunity instead of some ego developers who only seem to have facebook and twitter and $$$ on their mind? maybe its so crap becouse hardcore fans like yourself actually gets to decide anything for real in that sort of community? or maybe its the price tag that is wrong?

or is it the fact that its full of bugs and useless features and is bloated and doesnt work….oh sorry my bad, now my mind slipped to trillian again.

    open your eyes.

  130. DiamondNRG Says:

Facebook and Twitter were added because that is what new users DEMAND. File transfers work… sure they are slow on MSN, but they plan to fix that in 4.2 … if your having other file transfer issues you should be filing bugs, not whining on the blog like a 10 year old.

And open source software is always behind in terms of features and always looks like crap. Trillian is great because the developers actually care about the product and they know they need to make it great to continue to feed their kids.

Where do you come off thinking Cerulean is “corporate overlords” … this isnt AOL… they don’t even have 10 employees… I would highly classify that as corporate overlords. And at a measly $25 for an entire 4.x license I don’t think they are being unreasonable with their price.

Does the current build of 4.1 seem to have a few bugs for those users switching from 4.0? You’re right it does… do you think CS knows it? I am sure they do and I am sure they will address those bugs.

But the fact that your calling it useless is a lame biased narrow minded opinion, and Trillian certainly is not bloated… and if you are thinking it is, you just should be asking questions on how to make certain changes to help alleviate that feeling, not ranting like a 10 year old again.

My eyes are open, and they are sick of reading your dumb posts. Turn your brain on.

  131. Originalme8 Says:

As soon as they come out with the mac version I am going Pro! Can’t wait, but good job on the Windows, Web and iPhone versions.

  132. DarkNovaGamer Says:

DG, I am with DiamondNRG on this. Whining about it wont get it solved, filing bug reports and making the software creator/maintainer AWARE of the problem will generally get it solved.

As for your whining, I was actually under the impression it ‘was’ a ten-year-old typing. Guess everyone makes mistakes though. ;)

  133. DiamondNRG Says:

@Originalme8 … did you know you would have to buy it the same day you wrote that? LOL

  134. kstew21 Says:

@DiamondNRG: Just looking to confirm – is 4.1 Build 23 the final build for this version? I ask because I updated to that build on Jan 14. But then reading this initial blog, there are additional updates being rolled out as of the 19th? Looking to rid myself of any confusion. Thanks.

  135. DiamondNRG Says:

@kstew … on the 19th they just announced that build 23 was the final for 4.1 … so you are current. :)

  136. ffuhaw Says:

    How about an Android App?

  137. kitezer Says:

    So…when is 4.2? ;) hehe

  138. Ehm Yeah Says:

    I don’t use Windows 4.1 anymore… Is that a problem?

  139. DiamondNRG Says:

The 4.1 is the Trillian version, not Windows.. geez…

And Kitezer, I think they are busy this month with iPhone and OS X … plus I have seen devs on new builds of the web client … so that must be getting updated too… :)

  140. joel Says:

it is great, thank you trillian …………….

  141. Leaflord Says:

It’d be nice if the skin was made to look more native, that said I love it :D

  142. will Says:

any chance that we will see something along the lines of a group chat in Astra? When I say that I don’t just mean one that allows you to just text chat, I mean group video and voice chats. That is what I am hoping to see soon.

  143. Alamo Jones Says:

    Weak.

  144. kstew21 Says:

    @diamondnrg: thanks as always.

  145. drbuzz0 Says:

I was under the impression that the version 4.1 would introduce voice and video chat support. As it stands now it still doesn’t seem to have any support for voice or video at all, except to other Trillian users using the Trillian Astra account.

This is really disappointing. The one thing that set Trillian apart from other multi-protocol messengers was that it supported these features.

In that respect version 3.1 is still actually more capable than 4.x. At least 3.1 has some support for video chat in AIM, Yahoo and MSN, even if it is a bit behind in terms of codec support.

Considering that now AIM and Google both offer SDK’s and open documentation on their protocols and that MSN and Yahoo are basically known, I had expected that there would be at least some support.

Have they just given up on this feature entirely?

  146. DiamondNRG Says:

@drbuzzo… no, they are asking for input on what medium people want a/v on first in the forums… so they are clearly working on that for 4.2 … I think they just decided to make 4.1 a faster release than originally planned… and while certain things were said that made it SOUND like audio/video was coming in 4.1 … I don’t seem to see anyplace they actually officially promised it… so I am not sure they have lied to us yet.

  147. kstew21 Says:

i’m not sure if i’m asking a question that’s been answered already, but is it possible to set your facebook status (not the facebook online chat status) from trillian? if so, how is it done?

  148. kstew21 Says:

    …i figured it out.

  149. kstew21 Says:

…and so it continues. facebook chat once again not connecting. i repeatedly get this message in my status window:

    [13:47:13] *** Creating connection “”.
    [13:47:14] *** Infinite session detected, validating…
    [13:47:14] *** Setting up permissions…
[13:47:16] *** [!] Error: fql.query: Facebook API: is not valid in table permissions (605)

    Looking for help…

  150. DiamondNRG Says:

@kstew … facebook broke stuff again today.. but the good news is they are going XMPP and it already works in Astra! The contact’s don’t show yet, but CS knows about it and is working on a fix for the next build :)

  151. kstew21 Says:

@DiamondNRG: thanks again for the info. I saw yours and others’ posts on the community forums about that as well. Not a terrible inconvenience – effin Facebook.

  152. AHMED Says:

  158. Girendra Shrestha Says:

    thx 4 this update

  159. Christina Says:

Does this full release mean that we can use it as long as we want and with no more this many day trial only and asks us to purchase the pro?

  160. Just A Name Says:

I dunno why my comment here was not accepted after I asked a question

I was asking if this full version of Trillian Astra 4.1 is a 30 day trial or not?

  161. DiamondNRG Says:

    @Just a name. and christina.

Astra is available both in a free and pro version. That means this one is a pro trial for 30 days and then automatically becomes the free version. Just the pro features will be turned off at that point, you can keep using it forever. There is no way to download just the free version without the pro trial. They just include it for all new astra accounts.

  162. Ralph Kenyon Says:

When will we have Trillian for Linux?

  163. erick b Says:

excellent work!!! more power to CS
